Here's a Thought: Bernie's Modest Proposal to the DNC

Dear Fellow Dems:
Have you ever considered that I, Bernie, can make your dreams come true? By giving me the nom, I can fundraise the dickens out of the base (you know I can) and simultaneously shut down Trump's accusations to come against "corrupt Hillary". Think about it. You have until early June.

It's much, much simpler than that.
If the Democratic Party wants to win the Presidency, they absolutely must have the majority votes of folks under 45 and Independents.
Those groups will absolutely not vote without Bernie Sanders heading the ticket. To them, she's a pariah. If they do vote, it will be for whomever is running against Hillary.
Is the Democratic Party going to win in 2016? That depends entirely on the choice you make at the convention.
