hello

I had the same name at the other place…
The things I write tend to be exercises in creative writing, creativity being in the eye of the beholder of course, sometimes rambling and sometimes short and sweet, and often, directly or metaphorically, a comment on some recent event or situation. One of the things I found disturbing at the old place were these people I thought of as conservative and authoritarian, who didn’t really fit what I saw as the overall vibe of the site. These people would swarm to the defense of the authority, hide rate comments, and often, in an exquisite display of ignorance, demonstrate perfectly the points a diarist was making about them. It was almost like a parody generator. I found that you could poke at them by metaphorically mocking or calling out their actions, and they would attack you, because they were supposed to, and they seemed a little confused, but still knew you were talking about them. It was more pathetic than fun. I addressed them occasionally, and was feeling inclined to do so more recently – too much I’d say. To my amazement, they seem to have taken over there now, and have made it basically useless. If you’re reading this, you know what I’m talking about. To top it off, you have orange boy writing absurd and obnoxious shite dreaming about Warren being VP, or comparing Sanders supporters to Trump’s. The majority of their content is either “Trump” (likely for the clicks and views) or “republicans suck”. (I presume he figures “red meat” like that keeps repug haters like me hanging around) The value for me there were my fellow rabble, and most of the cool kids have been driven out. People wonder if the Dems will want us back; I wonder if orange boy will… I wonder how long Meteor Blades will hang in there; he must find a lot of that stuff pukeworthy.

I’ve been hanging around reading here a bit. While it’s nice to come to a site and write that hrc has all the authenticity and empathy of mitt romney, I’d say maybe you could reduce the amount of writing about H’s emails. Bernie summed that up for me in the debate, and it’s nothing new. As far as I’m concerned, you know all you need to know about her in a few items: she was SOS; she gets million$ from Wall St; and, she worked for Goldwater. In case you didn’t get the picture when the cheney regime was allowed to skate out of town, the status quo protects their own. The big dawg golfs with the bushes. Obama voted in the senate to retroactively make the wiretapping legal. The media props it all up and prevents unapproved ideas from gaining traction. Membership has its privileges. What else is new?

I see this as a time to define the post orange, post democratic party world. I believe there are more important discussions to have than rehashing hillary’s weaknesses and republicans’ crimes. We can determine whether a movement to push back against the forces that have bought our government will continue beyond this election, and, maybe more importantly, continue to have a web presence. We can fill a vacuum if we go about it correctly.

I believe Bernie wouldn’t have happened without OWS, and he expanded exponentially on what OWS started while working via a loophole, if you will, in the existing system: they couldn’t quite shut him down like they did OWS, since he was a legit candidate. And, in doing so, he revealed some very formidable obstacles that are built into the existing system, specifically to defend against campaigns like his (and people like us). We’re not talking ripples, he made a big splash – big enough to shake hillary’s yacht and dump the fancy china on the floor. He’s gained a lot of momentum, I’m behind him all the way to the end, and I hope against hope he can still prevail. Whether he does or not, he has pushed our cause miles further along than it was a year ago, and future efforts will build on his, whether he’s leading them or not. It’s clear it’ll never be a cakewalk.

Well, there’s my two cents worth of introduction. I don’t know how much I’ll post, but I wanted to say hello to my fellow orange refugees. We’ve been set adrift, and I hope maybe we can reconstitute in some form.

Congratulations on having the strength to quit voluntarily, many of us needed help Wink
As fun as jousting the nutty band of authoritarians over there was, punching down does get tiring. Give it a week, then everything will feel right as rain!

story in the last few days - suspect that is why there is so much being written currently. Prior to that there really wasn't that much about them.

just how far down the rabbit hole it all went.

I mean, an unsecured, private server? (Not just an email addy - a whole SERVER!) And somebody in Romania got at it - which means the Romanian government now knows what was on it (since they busted and incarcerated him), and it's extremely likely they aren't the only ones.

And we don't know, yet, just how much they know. Worst of all possible situations for a "Security State".

I would guess the Deep State is very, very pissed at Ms. Clinton - not so much for doing it, but for letting herself get caught at it.

The question remains, though, just what will be done about it? (Plenty can, but what will?)

...it was hosted at her house; rehash of old news. It didn't break laws, just rules. Same as when the bushies used the gov't dime and time for partisan political purposes; maybe even actually illegal, but nothing will be done. By the way, that's the problem with the gov't being sold out from under us: too many things that should be illegal aren't, like wiretapping, bribery, and tax dodging for instance...

Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.

You are mistaken if you don't think we know what's going on. You've got my back up a bit for using condescending language. We have all had more than enough of that.

I'm curious. Why did you approach us here the way you did?

I don't try to condescend. I never said anybody doesn't know what's going on. I've heard about the server and investigation before. We'll continue to hear non stop about it from here on in. I assume the gop will begin hammering this and many other issues and subjects to no end as well, much like whitewater. I guess I've heard enough about Hillary to have reached the point of "yeah, I get it". We all know she's sold, and we all know she's an opportunist. Their criticism of Bernie is based on BS, our criticism of Hillary is based on fact. We all know there's only one real choice. For me it all reaches a point of diminishing returns. The back and forth is what I tried to leave behind in orangeland. I feel that hammering Hillary is all redundant. Yeah, she sucks. That opinion can't be reinforced much more completely. I don't think she's likely to take a fall before the election over the email. If she ultimately wins the nomination and election, what is the best way to proceed? Should I concern myself more about the email server, or should I consider how to build effective responses to (what will surely be) crappy policies? OTOH, I believe the real fire is the foundation and the rogue's gallery of contributors and corresponding favors. Unfortunately, that appears to be business as usual. At this point, it's all pay to play. I believe we won't change that by burning down Hillary. She's a symptom.

I approached you here in the hope of finding something recently lost, missing... I don't know which "way" you're referring to. I don't expect to influence what people write about. But I may comment on it.

will write what they want. I hope you have this conversation here, it will be useful to envision how best to proceed, maybe brainstorm solutions.

But there will still be Trump articles. And Hill articles.

I'm still hoping Bern pulls off a big win!

Coming from the federal government IT world, the question I would ask is "If you received an email from someone purporting to be the "Secretary of State" of the United States of America - why in the world would you reply to an email address that DOES NOT contain the domain name STATE.GOV?????? You would be remiss in your duty as a network user NOT report such things.

And - the second thing I've noticed is the SCIF question. As the IT person testified, you can not operate remote devices in a SCIF, but I'm not sure his reasoning was correct. You can not access outside networks outside of a SCIF (for sure!) because a SCIF room is surrounded by copper mesh that does not allow mobile signals to received or transmitted period!! This is why Hillary wanted a separate room outside of her office so she could use her BB. They never got around to installing a non State Dept network desktop in the outside office because Hill was able to do everything she needed on her BB from that outside office. The most non secure situation you could imagine - but how could a lowly IT guy refuse Hillary (we know what she's like) , answer is "he couldn't".

Amen.
We can bitch about Her Highness' Club Privileges all the way to Nov., she's very likely to be the nominee. As someone else said here, her crimes and misdemeanors don't matter a twit - she's protected by The System. She will NOT be going to jail, so... why bother with the drivel? Besides, there are bigger fish to fry. "We can determine whether a movement to push back against the forces... We can fill a vacuum if we go about it correctly. I agree, and it can be started right here 9among other sites doing the same.
If we've learned anything from Bernie's campaign it's that the deck is stacked and The Village will not go quietly into that good night. You DNC fucks break your own rules! Yeah, so... ? kos once talked about crashing the gates, now resides, apparently, inside those gates. I latched on to this Bernie campaign becuz I saw him as maybe the only elected official with the balls to crash those gates. Or atleast make an honest attempt. Bernie started this party, is up to us to finish it. We need to figure out a way to get that done, fill bunsk's vacuum.

We want to support Bernie as far as he can go, but that't just the beginning.

We've talked about the Greens, badmouthed the libertarians, and made hopeful speculation about Brand New Congress and the People's Summit.

The general consensus seems to be that the Democratic Party is beyond repair.

I also don't like the essays here that complain about particular people at that other place. Total distraction. Like you, I hope that this place ends up being where things move forward. I think that was the intention when it was started, and many voices are moving in that direction. I am still waiting to see, but development has been toward something more meaningful. There are lots of good writers here. As with TOP, some essays can easily be ignored, while reading some real gems.
