Harlem Leaders' Fealty to Clinton Another Betrayal of Principle

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/03/hillary-clinton-new-york-bernie-sa...

It's Hell Up in Harlem for Bernie. He can't even find a church to rent for an event. Clinton allies have been given the word all over the map: SHUT BERNIE OUT - MUZZLE HIS VOICE - KILL HIS MOVEMENT IN THE CRIB

Check out the dismissive tone of another craven lawmaker.

“There’s not much for us to talk about with Bernie Sanders,” Rangel, who danced across the Apollo Theater stage dressed in a leather jacket ahead of Clinton’s rally there Wednesday, told POLITICO. “I don’t recall anybody ever having a conversation with Bernie Sanders about anything. I know several people have been lectured to by Bernie Sanders.”

Let's see, Charlie Rangel, a demonstrably corrupt influence peddler who is all about his own self-aggrandizement, who is paying back the Clintons for funneling their ill-gotten Wall Street gains into his overstuffed crumb-filled pockets. He cares not a whiff for the suffering of his constituents, and cannot abide a principled man like Bernie Sanders. Bernie "lectures" people like Rangel because Rangel types are a corrupt blockade to progress. Bernie cares more for Rangel's constituents than Rangel could ever imagine. Rangel is the type of disgusting dinasour that would do us all a favor if he would just go away. The Democratic Party, my party all my life, is THIS close to destroying itself due to the bubbled, self-satisfied trough-drinkers that Rangel and Clinton represent. I see now they may be more of a danger to democracy in the long run that the GOP. At least you can see the GOP coming from a mile away. These Clinton/Rangel types smile in your face, while their little social-climbing revolving-door staffers who write the fine print stab you in the back. NO MORE.

The Clintons and their evil allies (Rangle, Brock, DNC, and so on) will pull every trick in the book. They are at least as bad as the republicans. They use the party like their personal machine and it is worse in political machine states like NY and PA. I wish we had UN poll watchers. Cause the Clintons may not win this election, but they sure as hell are going to try to steal it!

We're going to see massive voter suppression, fraud and string-pulling in the coming days. Anticipate the worst.
DWS, Rangel, Rahm and Hillary are precisely what's wrong with the Democratic party, it's up to us to throw them out and clean it up.

On another note, Oliver Stone has endorsed Bernie.

The Clintons have done their work of building these community leaders into their loyalty network, so I am not really shocked by this at all. As I continue to read the Thomas Frank "Listen, Liberal" book, I see how some loyal Dem voter groups really feel they have nowhere else to go except with the established party choices. Frank makes the point that, in the past, one might think badly of the Dems at times, but their "brand" was that they would still do some good for regular people. The Clinton presidency really blew up that brand - he did the things no Republican could get away with(NAFTA, welfare "reform", drug sentencing) that were awful, but the general prosperity of the time disguised it. (I know, my family did great in those years, but some of it was a few lucky guesses at internet stocks.) The loyalty fix was in, though, and we must admit(and learn from this) the Sanders campaign has not broken into the deep ties formed, especially in the African-American community. People are not stupid, but do look to local leaders to decide which candidate acts in the voter's best interest. I do not really think getting "star power" at rallies is really helping. What IS helping is that young people keep spreading the word to families and convince them that Bernie will be a reliable friend. And that progressives have a better idea than establishment politics, which is enriching a few and leaving a lot more people with scraps. That will take longer than this election cycle, and people need to look to that goal, as I know that Bernie does.

No different really than the days when Irish "community leaders" were given favors by corrupt pols in return for successfully delivering the Irish vote. A bucket of coal or a bottle of whiskey would ensure a vote, even if it was against the interests of the people.

Rangel is filthy.

this article from 2008 demonstrates just what an uphill battle bernie's facing in nyc--where obama got ZERO votes in 80 districts when he ran against hillary in the primary back then:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/16/nyregion/16vote.html?_r=1

really disgusting--& especially so b/c the same assholes are still in charge of the same districts!

she's becoming increasingly unhinged by bernie staying in the race, as evidenced by her finger-jabbing-in-the-air-confrontation with a greenpeace activist yesterday.

look for wide scale vote tampering this time around--with bill making spur of the moment stops at selective polling places (in bernie-friendly neighborhoods) to campaign for his wife--& inconvenience voters--like he did in mass.

After the Trump debacle yesterday I started to soften about her because I feel I can count on her to remain pro-choice. But then I see this kind of behavior and really wonder about her true character.

“There are moments which are not calculable, and cannot be assessed in words; they live on in the solution of memory… ”
― Lawrence Durrell, "Justine"

Running for office is pretty awful, it's true. Even on a local level, the stress is enormous. The candidate is out there, accepting that they're going to be the target of voter dislike as well as admiration, that people are going to be unfair sometimes; the days are long and the need to be out there in public, persuading voters, is unrelenting. It's only to be expected that occasionally any candidate is going to be miserable and tired and not at his or her best.

But. I'm sorry, you don't take it out on voters. Maybe you pound the table or a wall when you're backstage. Maybe you snap at a colleague and need to apologize later when you've gotten some sleep. But you don't scream at voters, or have the secret service escort them out because they asked a question you didn't like, or do any of this "Why should I have to listen to you peons?" crap. Or at least, I think voters are more than entitled to treat it as an indication of a set of attitudes, and a temperament, not particularly suited to holding high public office.

This wasn't even that much of a challenge, dammit. People are going to ask awkward questions, or questions you don't want to answer, or questions that can't really be answered in the time allotted. You still shouldn't be speaking to them in terms any less respectful than you'd use if Anderson Cooper or Chris Matthews had asked the question. If you can't treat a voter as if she's important to you when you're campaigning and asking voters to trust their interests to you, why and how should voters trust that they'll be important to you once you've gotten what you wanted from them?

I would only add that she could have just ignored the question and walked on. She has done it before, so why not this time? Just a guess, that she has been planning that particular smear for a long time and it just burst out. However, given her facial expressions and finger pointing, she must be very, very angry. You are so right that taking it out on someone, especially a voter and in public, was a bad move and once again a matter of judgement that shows she is not qualified for the presidency.

It really makes me think about the 3:00 am call ad of hers against Obama in 2008. No, I do not want her answering the phone!

I appreciate you guys chiming in. This stuff just compounds until it really makes you question how you could support Clinton if she is the nominee. She is taking so much for granted, and it puts us all at risk. Another selfish Clinton move.

…the (Third Way) Democrats co-opted the Federal Funds earmarked for black candidates and black political movements.

The TW Dems then opened that channel through themselves. So, when blacks need Federal money, they go to the Clintons/Third-Way Dem in charge of the Party.

It's an institution, now. It's established. For them, it's always Party over people (although it looks like it is loyalty to the Party's establishment candidate).

You don't bite the hand that feeds you.

there must be a way to bring Harlem to him. I have never been to NYC, so do not know. What are the surrounding areas? Is there one very close to Harlem that would be easy for people to get to? A march through Harlem passing out fliers for said event? Is there a local "Wolfman Jack"? Are the barbershops anything like Killer Mike's...time for a haircut, maybe? Like I said, I know nothing of the current area. My last intro to Harlem was an x-rated movie abut a cat. = )
