Golden-winged x Blue-winged (Lawrence's) Warbler. Rarest of the GWWA x BWWA hybrids. Both parents have to be cross breeds.

It's pretty rare to see an Ovenbird in the open. Even rarer for one to land ten feet from you...

First time I've ever seen a female Scarlet Tanager.

Lots of Yellow-rumped, Yellow, and Common Yellowthroat warblers. They nest in NY so I see them all spring and summer...

The real reason I was at Derby was to see migratory warblers. I only saw two.

Not only are these photos gorgeous, but you can identify all those birds. There are so many warblers and I rarely see them in my yard. Thank you for sharing both of your talents with us.

Great shots and good birding! The scarlet Tanagers pass through, but the Summers hang out with us. The females are hard to see. One part of our house is in the canopy and you see them up there hidden in the foliage.
The warblers are tricky. That's good ID work and photography. Thanks for a tour of your bird world!

I'm not a 'birder' but can recognize the most obvious species. We have a hawk family nesting just up the road, and several years ago I looked up at our now defunct elm to see a Bald Eagle looking down at me. Big birds up close. I think it was part of a pair that apparently call the local golf course home.

This is a wonderful time in central NY!
First migration of warblers, along with the other passerines moving north, and no leaves on the trees! I saw a male scarlet tanager this week also, no wrens yet (but a waiting wren house to the first occupier). Much chickadee flirtation or bonding display.
Have to fill the hummingbird feeder tomorrow. Not much blooming yet for them in my woods.

As folks who have been around here for a while know, I love birds and rabbits. So, please, keep the rabbit photos coming, too!
I could only identify about half of the birds that you've photographed, but it doesn't diminish my please when viewing your beautiful photo essays.
I'm thinking that it may have been you who advised me to try safflower seeds, to get rid of so many Cow Birds and squirrels. Anyhoo, we're gonna give it a try, when we're back there. I'll let you know if it works for us.
(It needs to. For whatever reason, those Cow Birds literally come in flocks of 20-30. And they seem so aggressive, always running off our 'regulars.')
