Ethics Investigation Likely for DNC Co-Chair Dannel Malloy

Co-Chair of Democratic Convention, Dannel Malloy, Likely To Face Ethics Investigation

Malloy is governor of Connecticut:

Under Malloy’s watch, one of the largest health insurance mergers in United States history—a $48 billion deal—could potentially increase premiums and reduce health care coverage for 53 million people across the country.

According to the Norwich Bulletin, “When the deal between Connecticut-based Cigna and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield was being negotiated in early 2015, Malloy appointed Katharine Wade as the state insurance commissioner. Wade, a former lobbyist for Cigna with a handful of family ties to the company and a firm that lobbies for it, appointed a deputy and an agency counsel who had worked for Cigna.”

The newspaper added that political groups linked to Governor Malloy received $1.3 million in contributions from Cigna, Anthem, and a Cigna lobbyist, and the IBTimesreported six out of 10 registered lobbyists in Connecticut from Cigna and Anthem previously worked for the Connecticut state government. Cigna and Anthem also increased money spent on lobbying by 40 percent in 2015 to help push authorization of the merger forward.

It's quite a motley crew they've got running the Dem Show!

The whole piece is quite jaw-dropping. I'll just finish with this:

In May 2016, Senator Bernie Sanders formally requested that the DNC remove Governor Malloy from his position, as he has made several baseless attacks on Sanders throughout the Democratic primaries. The DNC, run by an overt Hillary Clinton supporter, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, has not surprisingly denied the request.

Nobody? Buller?

Yeah, Didn't think so...

There is no malfeasance that the Democratic Party Neocons can commit anymore that would surprise me.

I thought this shit was what the OTHER party was supposed to be doing.

Yeah, there is a difference between the two parties.

Too bad for us that difference only comes down to which oligarch you wanna support...

It looks like the Connecticut Voters might finally be ready to see him out in his next election...
Without having the FBI send him on a Hotel Greybar Vacation...
They are a little slow at grasping corruption...

the only "stakeholders" who matter in this country are the intermediary, profit taking middlemen who subtract value from the equation and have no incentive to lower costs since they are on an essentially "cost plus" contract. If anything, they should be removed from all discussions about how to proceed in the future, since a major goal should be eliminating their entire reason for being.

The most laughable thing in the healthcare debate is when someone brings up the concern for losing insurance industry jobs, like they are the only protected segment of labor in the country. Did we show concern for the buggy whip manufacturers at the advent of the automobile era? Plus, like all other labor, can't they simply be re-trained, the placebo answer available to everyone else? Actually, the health insurance will remain, but instead of being a detrimental force into the basic healthcare of the entire country, they can still run their model for cosmetic surgery and any optional healthcare not covered by a national health. They can be a small accessory industry, instead of running the whole show. Get their money out of politics and then maybe we can make some progress.

These docs argue that free market in healthcare is a fantasy.

REBUTTAL:

From Drs. Gaffney, Verhoef, and Hall

Dr Berdine argues that in an unhindered competitive health-care marketplace, the market will clear at a price and quantity of goods/services that, as if by definition, leaves all parties maximally satisfied. This argument is little more than a tautology that would, if possible, result in a health-care dystopia that society would not accept.

A free market for health care is not only undesirable: it is, as economists have noted for decades, a fantasy. Fundamentally, the degree of information asymmetry between the buyer (the patient) and the seller (the provider) prevents health care from conforming to the theoretical tenets of free-market economics. Kenneth Arrow famously contended that the uncertainty intrinsic to health care makes it unique from other goods and services. The health economist Bob Evans has argued that not only has there never been a pure free market in health care but that “inherent characteristics of health and health care make it impossible that there ever could be.” On the contrary, he argues, attempts to inject market mechanisms into health care are fundamentally about redistribution. As health-care costs are shifted from public to out-of-pocket sources, those with higher incomes invariably benefit.

As others have noted, the savings made possible through a single-payer system would allow extension of health care as a social right to the entire nation. In contradistinction with a fantastical health-care free market, such a program is both attainable and desirable.

Love to see them get behind Dr. Jill Stein.
