Dismantling the Telephone System
If you don't use call blocking, this will be of no interest to you. Have a good day.
If you use call blocking you might be interested in knowing that it is possible that crackers (not hackers, they are the good guys/gals) could be in the process of shutting down your network of connections. The process is not very sophisticated, except for the fact that it will only sequester those that have the ability to blind block calls.
This is how it is being done:
Crackers are spoofing legitimate numbers to generate source lists for RoboCalls™. These numbers are used to RoboCall™ lots of other numbers with the aim of getting those contacts to block the RoboNumber™. Sites like Phone Number Lookup are being used by the RoboCalled™ to disseminate the spoofed RoboNumbers™.
I have logged 96 calls of this type during the past three weeks. Prior to this we received at most one of these kinds of calls per week.
I have noticed anomalous behavior with my telephones. It is conceivable that my phone number has been used in this operation. As of this moment none of my numbers have been reported at Phone Number Lookup, so I am in a wait and see mode.
