Congratulations, it is Kali Yuga Day!

This is the anniversary of the start of the Kali Yuga -- the age of quarrel and strife. According to one computation, we have but 427,000 more years of this shit. The good part of that is that Kali is in charge, though, frankly, she doesn't seem to be kicking ass on evildoers the way that one would hope she would. Ah well.

Enjoy! Wink

We all should worship Ma Kali. It is Her Yuga, after all!

And as for Ma not kicking ass on evildoers the way that one would hope She would, She will. Expect it. (But yes, the wait whilst Deity deems the time to be ripe can be most frustrating!!)

Good aftrnoon, Deadhead. So how far should our worship go?

Thuggee perhaps?

As the Wikipedia article suggests:

Contemporary scholarship is increasingly skeptical of the "thuggee" concept, and has questioned the existence of such a phenomenon, which has led historians to describe "thuggee" as the invention of the British colonial regime.

(n.b.: My own understanding is that the Thuggee appear and disappear as Ma Kali Herself calls for from time to time.)

However, She is known as "Mother of the Bandits" (Ma Dacoitee).

So a nice "OM Jai Kali Ma" while meditating on Anonymous would be appropriate puja for this occasion, methinks!

She is something of a sanitation engineer, cleaning up the place.

In the three-part creative cycle -- (1) birth/ creation/ growth of new systems and structures, (2) maintenance of the status quo, and (3) the breaking down of old systems and structures -- Shiva and Kali rule the third stage: Destruction, Death, Doom, Transformation.

The three-stage cycle applies to everything that has ever existed. Every entity, system, country, regime, person, structure, and ultimately even the planet itself. No exceptions. Anyone with any sensory perception and an IQ over the freezing point knows that instinctively. Nothing lasts forever. What goes up must come down.

Everyone understands this, that is, except 21st century capitalists and imperialists, who in their madness believe in unlimited and infinite growth, world without end, amen. Gimme, gimme, gimme, hoard, hoard, hoard, more, more, more.

Uh oh.

Shiva and Kali are on their way.

Upanishads and Mahabharata. I was an explorer of the world's various religions, cultures and philosophies starting in early junior high school thanks to the influence of an English teacher who was a follower of Baha'i. I pretty much settled on empiricism with a side order of Taoism & Zen by high school, but felt a need to revisit Hinduism a bit at that time too, since is was a background and foundation underlying Buddha's intellectual/spiritual evolution.

and personal residence in Encinitas, CA, just a few miles up the road from San Diego. Everybody who was a remotely free thinker knew about it and read his "Autobiography of a Yoga". There was and is a decent surf spot there, affectionately known to local surfers as "Swami's". They used to have a facility outside of the gates that sold mushroom burgers to all comers.

It's weird how he was a part of the culture down there and one took his existence for granted. A decade or two (or 3??) ago I visited the Luther Burbank Home and Gardens in Santa Rosa and there was a picture of Burbank and Yogananda hanging on the wall. When I asked the docent how he knew Yogananda, she said "Who's Yogananda" and when I pointed to the picture she said "Oh, that's some yogi from India, that's all I know".
