The Myth of The Great White Father
Irony of Ironies! Barack Obama is now the "great white father" of the Native Americans (aka First Nations). Laugh or cry, I can't decide which. Obama is neither great nor is he white. He is not a father but an obedient child of the elites. He is bereft of any sort of humanity--and humility as well. GWF Obama is of Kenyan descent and maybe Trump was right: not an American at all. Obama certainly does not uphold what we consider as typical American Values, such as justice, fair play, single rule of law (instead of a two-tiered system).
GWF Obama has betrayed principle on so many occasions that one can wonder whom is more unprincipled: BHO or HRC. Confining this discussion to the former individual, let's take a brief look at some of his FAILS, because being more comprehensive would expand this essay to unwieldy size.
Let's talk about things he has done FOR the people, not the elites:
1. ACA, also known as About to Collapse Anyday.
2. Reversing the Great Recession.
Wait a minute you might say, these were both Devil's bargains.
1. ACA did give us greater numbers of citizens with health "coverage" which is proving to be a progressively leaking umbrella, an exclusion for not excluding people with pre-existing conditions. Right?
Well, not exactly. Why? Due to obeisance to the demands of "insurance" companies complaining about their loss of expected profits, progressively more are pulling out of ACA, state by state.
How about the "pre-existing conditions angle? Insurance companies have got this covered. If your condition is treatable with newer biological or other pharmaceuticals, the insurance company decides that:
a) treatment is not warranted or
b) experimental or
c) will cover only a small percentage of treatment costs (such as MRI for mammography or biologicals for Hepatitis C.
If insurance abuse isn't enough of a blessing for those of us who get sick, we have the unremitting Reign of Terror due to literally exploding drug prices--even on generic drugs.
Do the pro's outweigh the con's? You decide.
2. Ending the Great Recession. Now that is a no brainer, i.e., perpetrated by the GWF to enrich banks keeping the financial system afloat with their philosophy of greed. But what about the dispossessed? Well, thanks to Barry's human concern for his fellow human beings (about which, much more later) he magnificently magnified adomicilia already rampant in the land (for those of you not fluent in Latin, adomicilia = homeless).
So now thousands of homeless get jailed for loitering while Wall Street Tycoons get bonuses. Yes, we have a continuing economic expansion invisible to the naked eye, unless you enjoy the superb outlook from atop Mount Olympus ("It's a club and you ain't in it"--G. Carlin).
Okay, okay, you plead. No more of this financial talk, let us discuss real flesh and blood human beings. Now Obama, the "GWF" being a richly endowed person with melanin, would seem to be the perfect fellow to have in charge to deal with police murder of individuals with similar melanotic disposition. He could have order Department of Injustice investigations into murder of unarmed civilians, regardless of coloration, by the "Serve and Protect" gangs roaming our streets in black-and-white vehicles (oh, another irony).
And speaking of dangerous super-predators, like those smoking a joint of MaryJane, we should throw them in jail and forget where the key is to let them out again. Did Barry remove MaryJane from schedule 1, which requires no Congressional action and thus release people who were brash enough to inhale a vegetative product--you know, like "harmless tobacco" (which is something like "clean coal"?
Stop, stop already with these racist rants here! Okay. We won't talk about homelessness (even though it was still a racially anasymmetrical result of bad loans by bad people). Okay, we will talk about financial corruption--oh, we did that (banks, insurance companies and big Pharma).
Shall we instead review 19th century politics? What can we learn from a remote era? Why, we can learn about betrayal and greed. (I'll bet many of you thought that these were just 21st century vices. The origin of The Great White Father in Washington was he in whose name treaties with the First Nations was named as guarantor of these pacts.
Question: What is worth less: the New York Times of an "Indian" treaty? Answer: both are worthless but the latter was vastly more shameful and harmful.
As many on c99 have written about Standing Rock eloquently, such as blazinAZ, I won't go into as much detail. Suffice it point out that the US government committed genocide on First Nations, then dispossessed survivors by forcibly relocating them to land holding no value for white men. After each relocation or confinement, a treaty was signed in the name of the GWF.
On parts of the Sioux Reservation in North Dakota, land was ceded to the Sioux on both sides of the Cannonball River in 1851 and subsequently revised in 1868. Worthless land, right? Not really because large oil deposits found nearby had to be transported across sacred Sioux land to reach refineries and export centers. What makes this land sacred is the graveyards of Sioux ancestors for generations. These sites have been prayer grounds and places of reverence for the First Nations.
One disquieting sentiment, voiced especially by DAPL mouthpieces, has been "What's the big deal? It's just a bone yard in the middle of nowhere whose inhabitants think should stand in the way of progress?" Imagine if you will, that a huge deposit of Uranium or even oil was located under the soil of the Old Bone Yard at Arlington National Cemetery.
Barack GWF Obama visited these Sioux Lands in 2010 swearing to respect and protect the rights of the Tribes.
The following You Tube video is powerful albeit a bit long at 43 minutes. In responses to the Army Corpse of Engineers (misspelling purposeful) one spokesperson for the water protectors commented on a letter sent to the Tribes advising the protestors that the ACE will set up "free speech zones" near the pipeline but disbanding the current protest site. She said in essence: The Army Corps of Engineers is going to set up a Free Speech Zone, I thought the whole of America was a free speech zone.

the great disappointment. Obomber in chief. Let it play out a few weeks.

I do hope that the treament of the tribes and add-ins there
shames more awake. And that they side with the Sioux nation. It is painful to watch the violent response to peaceful protest. The war against Indians (Native Americans, First Nations) is escalating in the 21st century. I am ashamed of the government non-response. Or active violent response by mercenaries. On tribal lands!

keeping count. "Let's wait several weeks..see how it plays out"
That was Nov. 1st. Tomorrow is 4 weeks. Since Obama made that comment the government forces have used water cannon, have set up barbed wire around sacred areas, have announced they'll move everyone out. No word from the Prez. There is no doubt he'll do nothing.
Here's his statement from Nov. 1 as reported by the New York Times.
That reminds me of his "condemnation" of the torturers. "We tortured some folks" but don't get sanctimonious. Those folks had tough jobs and are patriots!
I guess there's no point in criticizing the loser of the recent election but she, too, said nothing and would have done nothing. No, wait, she did say something. It was hilarious.
Interesting similarities in policy there between Obama and Clinton, trying to sound like they support everybody.
Obomber is as American
as apple pie, he's proved it with every inaction and action you list. As for his melanin content, a black friend has repeatedly asked me why no one says he's half white, but we all say he is black. His white side took over, obviously. Great White Father indeed.

Obama self identifies
as being "black" as per this article in the New York Times.

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ~ President John F. Kennedy
He may self identify as black
but his actions seem to say that he was only doing that because he looks black. He has done nothing for black people in the US.
He was also adopted into the Crow nation and given a Crow name. Barack "Black Eagle".
He hasn't done anything for Native people either. Too bad they don't take the name back. I would if I had a say.
I don't know if this is just who he always was or if there is someone who has dirt on him (saying that to be kind but not really believing it). Regardless, considering his ancestry, one would think he would be more sensitive to the oppressed. Both the Kenyans and the Irish suffered at the hands of the British way back (the Irish more than the Kenyans due to the time period that their oppression occurred - the Brits had evolved some by the time they were dealing with the Kenyans) but I guess there is no natural affinity for the plight of oppressed peoples in his DNA.
Just by the by, I identify as black, not African American because my DNA comes from about 5 different peoples in Africa. I also have Irish and Native American ancestry but in very small amounts so I feel I am not out of place in addressing his self identification. Maybe a bit cold but not out of place.

I know.
I have wanted to mention my feelings about Obama and his "blackness" for a while. This seemed like a good time to do so.

I use black by default
because my ex husband refused to use African American. While he didn't really know his whole history at that time, he did have ancestors from Canada, he just didn't identify with that and found it personally repulsive. So I always use black.
My friend who asked that question of course meant it rhetorically - her dad has very light blue eyes. While I don't think she knows the full story on that, we do know her grandmother did not like white people and did not like that so many of my friend's friends were white. And really didn't like white doctors, even when on her death bed. We both know there's a story there but doubt we ever hear about it as her grandmother's long gone.
Yes, you'd think Obama would have a better sense but he's fully co-opted by the money. He did open my eyes to the fact that we're all really under one party though, the money party, so I guess I can thank him for that.

Seeing terms like half Black
Seeing terms like half Black and half White applied to people always makes me think of zebras... If an individual's hair or skin colour is used not as a descriptor for purposes of identification but something which for some reason must be qualified as a specific type of mixed ancestry, (which does not result in a half and half coloration in people, lol, they're just brown-skinned instead of an actual black, even though you'd still say 'Yeah, Joe was the Black guy in the red t-shirt' and, come to that, 'John was the White guy in the black t-shirt', even though he was tanned brown, too,) it strikes me as distinctly odd... I was always blonde until I went mousy-coloured, recently started using a hair lightener and look blonde again, but am I now part mouse? I iz confoozeled...

What's sad is that Obama could easily set
some of these thing aright. He could stop the madness at Standing Rock, and even better, he could honor the judgment that the Sioux won in the SCOTUS years ago, they've refused the ridiculous monetary award, but I'm sure they'd accept BLM or other federal lands in lieu of cash. In short, in these remaining weeks, he could leave a lasting legacy for himself and for the native people.
Instead he's busy handing out fake medals to Hollywood celebs.

Out of curiosity, what do they do about their burial grounds?
Dig up their anscestors and move them? AND IF the pipeline ruptures or leaks? If they move then it will no longer matter if the water source is destroyed?
Just wondering how that works.

The land is still sacred to the people who live there. And again
IF THE PIPELINE LEAKS INTO THE WATER SUPPLY, then what? And bulldozing changes nothing. In fact it makes this situation even more heinous. Now bones are scattered all over the area. Someone deserves some really horrific Karma for that action.
Some people sure pretty flippant when it comes to deciding what's important to others. This is their land.
Case closed.

Poisoning large-scale water supplies, as they assuredly will, is considered to be an act of terrorism.

At this point, you're still free to say what you please - depending, and they are working on that - as long as Those Who Matter and their all-important profiteering aren't affected by it.
And I expect that you can still read people saying online that America is not yet fascist because the concept of freedom of speech (even though redefined for those having sucked the money out of most of the rest of The People and therefore able to afford even the most expensive speeches to ensure that they are politically represented) still exists.
