Too Many Moving Parts...

Open Thread Image.jpg

The Great Game just keeps churning with ever more players and pieces. This summer we've seen Africa and the Global South reject western dominance and bullying. This week we saw the contrast of west and east. The western leaders (who over their citizens' objections) support the genocide of the Palestinians (really other than the advancement in weaponry, it's no different than the genocide the US carried out on first nations peoples), versus the global belt and road conference taking place in China to promote trade and construction projects for mutual economic benefit. BRICS pay, a blockchain based exchange is going to continue to accelerate de-dollarization. Also this week, it is clear that Ukraine has been displaced by Israel in the media, as the Ukrainian conflict looks to be almost over. None the less, Joementia isn't willing to let go of his 10% cut and wants more money for Ukraine and other wars all over the world.

Never enough war?
White House Seeks $105 Billion To Arm Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan

On Friday, the White House rolled out its proposed $105 billion bill to arm Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The legislation also includes funding for the border and humanitarian assistance. US officials say over $50 billion will go to American weapons manufacturers.

And the grift goes on...Despite massive protests in the States, London, Paris, and across the world.

Screenshot 2023-10-21 at 10-15-07 About 100 000 protesters join pro-Palestinian march through London.png

What arrogance. Don't TPTB remember we had to leave Afghanistan with our tail between our legs (not to mention Vietnam), nor recognize what looks like certain defeat in our Ukraine proxy war.

RJ does a deep dive into the bellicose, belligerent, and lie filled Biden Oval office speech this week.
Hearing Biden's Speech Line by Line is TERRIFYING & infuriating (40 min)

Biden’s ‘Weak’ Speech Tying Ukraine, Israel Funding Reflects ‘Bankrupt’ US Policy in Mideast
In his address to the American people, US President Joe Biden announced he would be sending a budget request to Congress to “fund America’s national security needs.” By that, POTUS meant dishing out further support to the ongoing NATO proxy war against Russia in Ukraine, and aiding Israel in its fight against Hamas.

Middle Easterners Have Words For The Western Press Who've Been Lying About Them

Hundreds of US congressional staffers are passing around a letter urging their bosses to call for a ceasefire, there’s a silent mutiny brewing in the State Department over the Biden administration’s Gaza actions, mainstream reporters have been refusing to parrot Israel narratives, and the streets are full of pro-Palestine demonstrators.
This is different. What we are seeing right now is a deviation from the usual script.
...
Israel had been trucking along at the same status quo for so long, people assume there was a state of peace when Hamas attacked it, which was why the western political/media class were able to frame it as an “unprovoked” attack. But in reality the status quo in Israel has been one of continually escalating violence, tyranny and abuse for generations, not one of peace.
...
After 9/11 it was “they hate us for our freedom” and all the US aggressions in the middle east which provoked Al Qaeda were swept under the carpet. When Russia invaded Ukraine the well-documented NATO provocations and violence in the Donbass which gave rise to it were written out of the history books, and history began on February 24, 2022. If China ever reacts to the US military surrounding it with war machinery and its aggressive provocations in Taiwan, that will be framed as a completely unprovoked attack which came completely out of nowhere as well.

I hope it is different this time around, but I'm not holding my breath. AIPAC still owns most US politicians, and their lobbying efforts are kicking into high gear.

The Fog of War...
During active conflicts it is difficult to ascertain what is really happening. This week the big controversy has been if Israel bombed the Palestinian Hospital in southern Gaza or if it was a misfired Hamas rocket. No need to investigate, Uncle Joe declared it was Hamas, which makes me suspect Israel.

Was the Gaza hospital attack caused by a failed rocket launch? (3.5 min)

An Al Jazeera digital investigation found no grounds to the Israeli army claim that the strike on the al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza was caused by a failed rocket launch.

Chris Hedges: Israel’s Culture of Deceit

Israel, which always seeks to blame Palestinians for the atrocities it carries out, is the least trustworthy source about the bombing of the hospital in Gaza.
...
The whistling sound, audible on the video moments before the explosion, appears to comes from the high velocity of a missile. This sound gives it away. No Palestinian rocket makes this noise. And then there is the speed of the missile. Palestinian rockets are slow and lumbering, clearly visible as they arch in the sky and then tumble in free fall towards their targets. They do not strike with precision or travel at close to supersonic speed. They are incapable of killing hundreds of people.
...
The brazenness of Israeli lies stunned those of us who reported from Gaza. It did not matter if we had seen the Israeli attack, including the shooting of unarmed Palestinians. It did not matter how many witnesses we interviewed. It did not matter what photographic and forensic evidence we obtained. Israel lied. Small lies. Big lies. Huge lies. These lies came reflexively and instantly from the Israeli military, Israeli politicians and Israeli media. They were amplified by Israel’s well-oiled propaganda machine and repeated with a cloying sincerity on international news outlets.

Hey, Israel must have taken lessons from US. Project, project, blame.

Scott asks, "Does it matter? Civilians are still being killed by Israel."

Israel Intends to Make Gaza Uninhabitable by Cutting Power Permanently
“Humanitarian crisis” winds up being inadequate since it averts attention from the deliberate steps Israel is taking to make living in Gaza untenable. “Genocide” is more apt but without describing the clear program Israel is launching, it can be depicted as overwrought.

Perhaps the most interesting hypothesis about the Israel Palestinian conflict came from Paul Craig Roberts, who suggests Israel allowed this to happen (like our 9/11) to provide for the genocide of the Palestinians and the incorporation of both Gaza and the West Bank. (54 min)

Paul Craig Roberts (PCR) has had careers in scholarship and academia, journalism, public service, and business. He is chairman of The Institute for Political Economy.
President Reagan appointed Dr. Roberts Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy and he was confirmed in office by the U.S. Senate. From 1975 to 1978, Dr. Roberts served on the congressional staff where he drafted the Kemp-Roth bill and played a leading role in developing bipartisan support for a supply-side economic policy. After leaving the Treasury, he served as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Hamas’s offensive military operation has granted Israel its reason to commit genocide on and ethnically cleanse what is left of the Palestinian people.

We had friends over last night.
They asked, "Do you really think Israel was caught off guard considering they have the best spy organization in the world, the best cell phone tapping software, and have informants directly integrated into Hamas?"
I said,"Good question."

The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a United States Navy technical research ship (spy ship), USS Liberty, by Israeli Air Force jet fighter aircraft and Israeli Navy motor torpedo boats, on 8 June 1967, during the Six-Day War. The combined air and sea attack killed 34 crew members (naval officers, seamen, two marines, and one civilian NSA employee), wounded 171 crew members, and severely damaged the ship. At the time, the ship was in international waters north of the Sinai Peninsula...

The attack was designed as a false flag in order to blame Egypt for the attack and draw the US into the conflict.

Israel's long war on Gaza with Norman Finkelstein on The Chris Hedges Report (53 min)
Israel has unleashed a horrific war of collective punishment against the people of Gaza, the latest in a long history of anti-Palestinian oppression. As corporate media shamelessly provides cover for what is undoubtedly a genocide unfolding in real time, the need to ground our understanding of the conflict in its proper history is more important than ever. Norman Finkelstein joins The Chris Hedges Report to discuss Israel's 17 year blockade of Gaza and its crucial significance to understanding the events of the past two weeks.

EU will never live down this shame - MEP Clare Daly

EU has been complicit with the war crimes - MEP Mick Wallace- speech from 19 Oct (1 min)

Why do our EU leaders find it so difficult to call out the activities of Israel as terrorism? Why are they so reluctant to actually say that Israel is a terrorist State? Why are they so reluctant to say that Israel behaves like an apartheid state and refuses to respect international law? Why does the EU still call Israel its like-minded partner? How can this brutal Lawless regime be our like-minded partner?

From Adam Shatz, Vengeful Pathologies

The inescapable truth is that Israel cannot extinguish Palestinian resistance by violence, any more than the Palestinians can win an Algerian-style liberation war: Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs are stuck with each other, unless Israel, the far stronger party, drives the Palestinians into exile for good. The only thing that can save the people of Israel and Palestine, and prevent another Nakba – a real possibility, while another Holocaust remains a traumatic hallucination – is a political solution that recognises both as equal citizens, and allows them to live in peace and freedom, whether in a single democratic state, two states, or a federation. So long as this solution is avoided, a continuing degradation, and an even greater catastrophe, are all but guaranteed.

China Belt and Road influence (12 min) ... and Middle East policy @ the 10 min mark) . The Duran with Sofia Midkiff.

Belt and Road int'l cooperation gets off ground, grows rapidly over past decade: Xi

The cooperation has extended from the Eurasian continent to Africa and Latin America, and more than 150 countries and over 30 international organizations have signed Belt and Road cooperation documents.
...
"The BRI represents humanity's joint pursuit of development for all," Xi said.
Belt and Road cooperation transcends differences between civilizations, cultures, social systems, and stages of development. It has opened up a new path for exchanges among countries, and established a new framework for international cooperation, Xi said.

So construction and development from the East, destruction and war from the West.

BRI forum makes solid progress

The Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing resulted in a total of 458 practical outcomes, significantly surpassing the achievements of the second forum, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday.
Several cooperation initiatives and agreements were agreed, including improvements in connectivity, green development, the digital economy, and on high-level principles for building integrity within the Belt and Road Initiative, said Wang.
...
The two-day forum was attended by representatives from 151 countries and 41 international organizations, showcasing the appeal and global influence of BRI cooperation, said Wang.
The forum sent a clear message to the world: unity, cooperation, openness, and mutual benefit are necessary, while division, confrontation, isolation, and zero-sum games should be rejected, he said.

Of course the western powers are doing everything in their power to disrupt the global cooperative project.

Thanks to powers behind the throne the fall ends in bankruptcy.

@Lookout , the big crumble, creating rubble. That seems to be what our overlords are doing. The great enrubblement. Turning good things into useless rubble.

It doesn’t sound as if the average Usian will fare well, and that may be the best case scenario. I imagine things will get very bad. Michael Hudson’s view is NOT that the U.S. is sleepwalking into WWlll, but that it is a deliberate policy agenda. One can call TPTB clowns, but according to some, this is all deliberate. I suppose one could split the difference and call it a clownish agenda. Here is an interview with Michael Hudson by Dimitri Simes Jr. https://rumble.com/v2suidw-us-economy-surprisingly-resilient-or-potemkin... H/T Yves at NC:

Well, you’d said that they’re sleepwalking into World War Three, but they’re not sleepwalking. The United States is deliberately risking and even triggering World War Three because it realizes that the United States is losing its military power. And in fact, NATO is literally out of weapons right now because of the war in Ukraine and the way that the United States national security establishment is thinking, and I was associated with it for many years, is, “if we’re going to have a war, a World War III, we’re never going to be in a stronger position than right now. Our position is weakening. So if we’re going to blow up the world, let’s do it now, because we’re going to blow up the world and lose even more heavily if we do it in the future". They’re actually risking the takeover now, especially because it’s so centered in the Near East with Iran and Syria, as I mentioned, being the real keys to all of this.

They think that right now maybe Russia has already tied up its army in Ukraine and there’s nothing it can do to come to the aid of Syria if the United States moves against Syria, and once it moves against Syria, The neocons and conservatives in the national security establishment have already said, “first we go to Iraq, then Syria, and then Iran is where we’re all aiming all of this”. They’ve spelled it all out in national security reports. This is not sleepwalking. This is a very conscious plan that the leading neocons, Victoria Nuland’s group, have all put together. And they are actually trying to trigger it all.

Hudson doesn't mention the war crimes, the brutality, the unbelievable cruelty of the attack on civilians living in Gaza . But he does mention how the rest of the jungle the civilized world, finds this shocking.

So I think while Biden is trying to tell Israel, “this is not a good time to fight Gaza anymore because you’re turning the whole world against us,” and Biden is finding that his support of Netanyahu is an albatross around his neck, as I think a recent column by someone put it, that somehow he’s supported a right wing belligerence that the majority of Israelis have voted against and the majority of American Democrats voted against. It’s not that America is supporting Netanyahu, it’s supporting the Likud right-wing neo-liberal approach, basically. And the fact that this economic warfare is taking so violent a turn is shocking to the rest of the world.

.

You left no stone unturned in this WW. Thanks for all your work Lookout (and a belated thanks for the week before and the week before that....and....

I'm pleased to see so many interviews by Dialogue Works. These interviews are deceptively plain and straightforward, the questions sound basic and simple, the interviewer is a cipher. But the path of the interview lifts the viewer from basic awareness of a topic into a quality of understanding. It's a drill-down approach that is highly satisfying. It seems to me that those interviewed, who are among the most esteemed in their area of expertise, seem unusually respectful and delighted by the process overall.

I'm commenting before I jump into the heart of the Weekly Watch and get lost in all the new details. Thanks, Lookout, for your dedicated work.

When we see a picture of Vladimir Lenin at the top of an essay, should we not be trembling with suspicion and hatred?

Of course it depends on which two minutes of hate you attend.
Orwell writes: "The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but that it was impossible to avoid joining in. Within thirty seconds any pretense was always unnecessary. A hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledge hammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one's will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic.”

Beware, and enjoy today's watch!

The interview style is carefully thought out in advance and relies on rationality and emotional intelligence. The interviews are also edited, and in some cases, I believe the order of the questions is changed. This makes the interviews very efficient and compelling. No one is complaining here, but I am paying attention to things like that lately since I've been working with artificial intelligence apps.

I just want to reiterate something you said about the Paul Craig Roberts interview. This is a very important interview that will expand the perspective that the public may have about what we have seen this week of "9/11 Part Two". The first five minutes of the interview reveals the only rational explanation for a strategically impossible event that we were meant to witness — it is something we should all keep in mind moving forward. This is the question that Dialogue Works placed first.

....Rather than allowing such world events to roll over us as they do, and only discovering the truth decades too late to do anything about it. Check out the first five minutes now.

The gist of it was that it isn't either/or. Most likely a palestinian rocket broke up and did some small damage to a parking lot near the hospital while, somewhat contemporaneously an israeli bomb or missile hammered the shit out of the hospital. A simple solution to the question that accounts for all of the data instead of just some of it by simply not falling into the binary thinking trap.

In that vein, way back when, whether intended as a flase flag or not, the israelis had another reason to attack the liberty. It was transmitting tacktical and troop disposition info which Egypt was intercepting. That is why we initially didn't admit that it was spy ship.

@enhydra lutris was a NSA intel ship that was gathering communications info. If they were also in turn transmitting that info in RT it would have been heavily encrypted but more fundamentally the Israelis would never have attacked without getting US permission or even before that, asking the US to have the ship cease sending the sensitive info.

Contra the usually well-informed Ray McGovern who seems to be barking up the wrong tree blaming Israel first and foremost, this was almost certainly a planned, US-instigated false flag event, the Israelis in cahoots with the US gov't, LBJ in charge, with Mossad and the CIA working closely together, James Angleton taking point. It was intended that the Israelis sink the Liberty, leaving no survivors who could testify that it was Israeli forces that attacked. US officials would then falsely blame Egypt and then launch an attack on Cairo -- knowingly or not risking a Soviet reaction which could have triggered WW3.

I don't think the overall objective was to get the US into that Six Day War, as the US already was involved in an important way with its military-intel-political assistance. I think it had more to do with US domestic politics, 1968 presidential election year and shoring up LBJ's perceived weak Jewish support. The intervention/attack on Cairo also would have served to distract public attention away from Johnson's increasingly unpopular VN War, which, as we know, would be the major reason he took his name out of re-nomination.

This anyway is my speculation. After the Gulf of Tonkin false flag scheme which gave him a blank check to fully engage the US into VN, and possibly one other major event the previous year for which he escaped being held responsible, Johnson must have felt he could get away with it again, cover-up stories in place, no one daring to suggest such a beyond-reason, deep and dark conspiracy.

SecDef McNamara, just following orders from the prez, which is all he ever did, gave his resignation to LBJ not long after the Liberty incident, iirc. He would step down officially 6 months later. In later years in interviews, he would always claim a (suspicious) fuzzy memory of the events surrounding the Liberty, strange for a man so good at recalling other events in such minute detail. But perhaps fitting for a man whose middle name was Strange. Interviewers in later years likely were ill-informed, if at all, about the Liberty, so were not in a position to question him closely. Consider how (imo) even Ray McGovern today still assigns primary culpability to the Israelis.

I'm not discounting your hypothesis. I've learned the unbelievable is often the truth. If the US instigated the attack on their own ship and troops it reveals great evil, IMO. No doubt, LBJ himself, returned the US fighter jets to their carriers rather than allow them to encounter the Israeli attack....the commanding Admirals testified to that.

When we get back, I will set up my laptop, sit on the porch, hopefully enjoy some cool-ish breeze, and watch the videos you posted, LO.
We had a date night, dined out, made a new friend, and enjoyed ourselves despite the worries and concerns about war, gas shortages, and internet going dark.
Until then,

Glad you had a good evening. We had local friends over. Ate snacks, drank a bit, and laughed a lot. They're not musicians so we didn't play, but we'll make some noise later today.

I think it might be a good idea for those that have the where with all to draw out and hold some cash in case of a crash. Alex has spoke about the situation in Cyprus when all of Greece went belly up. They finally got at least a percentage of their holdings back, but had no access to funds during the weeks of the crisis. So find a hidey-hole and stuff away enough to survive at least a few weeks if you can. There have been times when we didn't have a cushion, but fortunately we grew our way out.

As to TPTB, they never let a crisis go to waste...and therefore often perpetrate the crisis.

Have a good remainder of the weekend!

@Lookout We have been preparing for frozen bank accounts for a couple of years.
Sounds like you had a fun Saturday Night at the homestead! Great. Get in some pickin' and singin' tonight, friend.
We did stock up on things today, such as canned fruits and veggies, some soup, not the food we normally eat, but what we would gladly eat if the store shelves were empty.
Dear One mentioned that he read yesterday that cardboard box orders were way down. You know, the boxes we ship most everything in to get the items on the shelves. That is a very big clue as to what lies ahead.
I think it is a helluva lot easier to let yourself go, have some fun, when you have done whatever is within your means to get ready for the looming crises. When you are as ready for it as you can be, there is no guilt to running and playing.
Have a wonderful evening!

...even without the predictions about what the immediate future portends, makes me wonder if now is the right time to decamp. A decision that a long, continuous line of my ancestors, going back to the very beginning of Homo sapiens, correctly made.

As a little girl, when I heard the story about the Jews killed in Germany, I would ask, "Why didn't they run when they could still leave? What were they waiting for?"

I know now that the Jews were waiting for things to return to normal. The American People's complete denial of the obvious truth is the deadly character flaw that has allowed the government to go rogue. Unless our current situation is the American Dream that everyone has been talking about. For me, it's still unacceptable. I'm just not that gullible.

...destinations for different types of legal expats from many different nations. Those who are running away from something, tend to be running away from taxes and money-grabbing governments. A very large contingent of legal expats (those who have Resident visas) are retired folks of modest means who would like to live well in a healthy environment in a peaceful country. Many from the US have decided they may soon outlive their money if they remain in the US. There are not many who are expats because they are offended or threatened by their nation's politics. If they do feel that way, they certainly do not write about it in public forums. Most visit their home countries at least yearly. Many buy homes and rent them out to other expats, and live off the income. There are a huge and growing number of US expats out there, all over the world. They can be classified as migrants or immigrants. There are also a lot of digital nomads, people with visas who move from country to country and make money online.

I'm planning to write some stories about it soon.

In recent years, the three main congregations have enjoyed numerous developments and improvements. In the mid-1990s, Beth El added a new cultural center to its building. In 2001, Emanu-El renovated its historic sanctuary and constructed a four-story building to house its offices and religious school. During construction, the congregation met down the street at Southside Baptist Church, where it had met temporarily almost a hundred years earlier. Knesseth Israel moved to a brand new building in Mountain Brook Park, where it has a sanctuary, social hall, and religious school classrooms.

The three main congregations have also been joined by new additions to the Jewish community. In 1998, Chabad opened the Beis Ariel Chabad Center in Mountain Brook. It currently houses a summer day camp, preschool, and weekly Shabbat services. That same year, a group of Jews with a secular appreciation of Judaism decided to organize to practice their non-theist beliefs. Calling themselves the Or Hadash Humanistic Judaism Congregation, they meet once a month at members’ homes to discuss Judaism and celebrate Shabbat with potluck dinners.

Birmingham remains a strong and thriving Jewish community. Between 1984 and 2001, its Jewish population grew from 4,500 to 5,300. Although Birmingham is a small Jewish community by national standards, it boasts a diverse array of Jewish institutions, including a Jewish Federation, Jewish Foundation, the Levite JCC, the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School, Jewish Family Services, as well as five congregations. The Deep South Jewish Voice newspaper, founded and edited by Larry Brook, has been reporting on Jewish news in Birmingham and the rest of the Deep South since 1990. For almost a century, Birmingham has been Alabama’s largest Jewish community and seems poised to retain this title well into the twenty-first century.

note the star of David...
Why because...
Judah P. Benjamin was a prominent lawyer, senator and slave owner in Civil War-era America. When the South seceded, he was tapped as Confederate secretary of war and was confirmed on this day in 1861.
In March of 1861, Benjamin was appointed Attorney General by Confederate President Jefferson Davis, with whom Benjamin had served in the Senate. Davis often referred to Benjamin as “the brains of the Confederacy.” His appointment made Benjamin the first Jew to ever serve in an American cabinet. That same year, Davis requested that he accept the position of Secretary of War.

and of course Bibi was in the middle of it. He prophesied in 1995 that Islamic forces would attack the towers.

https://www.unz.com/article/911-was-an-Israeli-job/?showcomments

This also talks about how long he has been connected to America and his ties to the neocons. Remember the dancing Israelis? I dunno how much of this is true because there has been lots of evidence showing that the Saudis were behind it too. But I appreciated it showing how long Bibi has been intwined in America.

There is also a link to an article that says that Israel was behind JFK's assassination. I read about that in other articles. He was tickled about Israel having nukes and especially how they got them and he was going to demand that they give them back. I haven’t read the article yet so I don’t know if it covers that.

Five Dancing Israelis Arrested On 9/11
(almost 3 min)

A Mossad surveillance team made quite a public spectacle of themselves on 9-11.
The New York Times reported Thursday that a group of five men had set up video cameras aimed at the Twin Towers prior to the attack on Tuesday, and were seen congratulating one another afterwards. (1)
Police received several calls from angry New Jersey residents claiming "middle-eastern" men with a white van were videotaping the disaster with shouts of joy and mockery. (2)
"They were like happy, you know ... They didn't look shocked to me" said a witness. (3)
[T]hey were seen by New Jersey residents on Sept. 11 making fun of the World Trade Center ruins and going to extreme lengths to photograph themselves in front of the wreckage. (4)
Witnesses saw them jumping for joy in Liberty State Park after the initial impact (5). Later on, other witnesses saw them celebrating on a roof in Weehawken, and still more witnesses later saw them celebrating with high fives in a Jersey City parking lot. (6)
"It looked like they're hooked in with this. It looked like they knew what was going to happen when they were at Liberty State Park." (7)

Like much of 9/11, another story cloaked in fog. Thanks for the addition!

@Lookout scenario, Israel would have been in a difficult position in declining the US request/order to attack the Liberty. Too much foreign aid and military assistance was at stake. But with a successful false flag mission, all that foreign aid being sent to Egypt at that time would have then gone instead to Israel, doubling the Israeli take.

Re the question of evil, what do you call someone who has a duty as CinC to act in the best interests of America and its military personnel but who acts instead to consciously allow dozens of US sailors to be killed while hoping all 200+ are killed?

Obviously an honest full investigation was/is needed, but it never happened and likely never will. A survivor of the Liberty attack who was involved in the intel gathering, later ended up living in VT and contacted his reps Sen Bernie Sanders and Pat Leahy about interesting them in such an investigation. Bernie told him it "wouldn't be appropriate". Leahy didn't want to touch it.

https://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedings/2017/june/commentary-remember...

Most researchers and members of intelligence agencies believe the Israelis attacked the Liberty to conceal their troop movements to take the “impregnable” Golan Heights. The attack originally was scheduled for 8 June 1967. Many believe it was postponed until the Liberty’s electronic surveillance capability had been neutralized by Israeli jet fighters and motor torpedo boats. If the Liberty had not been eliminated, the U.S. Navy technical research (electronic collections) ship possibly could have intercepted Israeli communications regarding the troop withdrawal from the Egyptian front for this planned attack. Had the Americans learned of the planned attack against the Syrians, which they had warned Israel not to undertake, lest the Russians be drawn into the conflict, the Israelis feared their plan would be compromised. Had this been the case, the Egyptians might then have counterattacked after learning of the redeployment of Israeli forces. Further, had the Syrians learned of the threat, they might have repelled the attack, and Israel might have lost the war.

During interviews undertaken by Anthony R. Wells in 1976–77 with Dean Rusk, Secretary of State in 1967, Rusk went on record as saying the attack on the Liberty was “not an accident, but deliberate.”1 He also stated that Israeli Minister of Defense Moshe Dayan’s orders to attack the Liberty, as well as his decisions to attack Syria and take the Golan Heights, were made without consulting Prime Minister Levi Eshkol and other key Israeli officials.2

Although Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, president of the Liberty Court of Inquiry, and Captain Ward Boston, Judge Advocate General’s Corps, the court’s lead counsel, concluded “it was a deliberate, planned attack on an American ship,” the report that was officially recorded in the U.S. Navy Department branded the attack an accident, a case of mistaken identity with the Egyptian ship El Quseir.

Doesn't contradict the idea the US requested the attack as you suggest.

@Lookout spy tech was sufficient even 55 yrs ago to be able to detect unusual/unexpected Israeli troop movements, so in reality it wasn't a question of hiding such major things from us. 2) Israel deceiving the US about the extent of Israeli military activity would not have gone over well in D.C., especially as Israel was trying to maneuver to get more US funding, so I'm skeptical of the Syrian angle. 3) It makes little sense for an ally at the time hoping for more assistance from the US to then shoot up and try to sink a US ship with nearly 300 on board. Would have made the next appropriation for Israeli aid very complicated to pass.

Rusk: Yes, it was deliberate. No, it wasn't the Israelis acting alone. And no, it wasn't Dayan going rogue, even though he looked roguish. Rusk either wanted to tell a half-truth, get the benefit of a modified limited hangout, or was again so narrow-minded in thinking, so loyal to LBJ, that he couldn't possibly imagine what else might be up. McNamara was the guy to interrogate, in his later post-gov't years. Too late now obviously.

@enhydra lutris read from reliable sources, the Liberty was only there in the eastern Mediterranean to monitor Soviet sub activities and Egyptian military. Further, the ship was instructed to disregard or put aside any intercepted Israeli comms. So, no forwarding of Israeli intercepts.

Likely the SecDef was closely in touch w Israeli military/Mossad throughout the Six Day War and each side was well informed of upcoming plans and RT actions. In fact, the head of Mossad had paid a visit, just a few days before the outbreak of the war, to Langley to meet w his counterpart at CIA, and even before that with Angleton, who headed the Israel desk. Thus Israel was likely well aware of the presence of the Liberty and knew it was just a mainly unarmed spy ship gathering info on the other side's activities. The US gave its blessings to the Six Day War instigated by Israel, and as I and others speculate, the Liberty attack was a well-planned false flag event, no mistakes, except for the failure to sink the ship, by the Israelis.

...had a buddy that sang it often.
Garden Party by Ricky Nelson Live 1972
Lyrics:
"Went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends
A chance to share old memories and play our songs again
When I got to the garden party, they all knew my name
No one recognized me, I didn't look the same
But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well.
You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself
People came from miles around, everyone was there
Yoko brought her walrus, there was magic in the air
And over in the corner, much to my surprise
Mr. Hughes hid in Dylan's shoes wearing his disguise
But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well.
You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself
Played them all the old songs, thought that's why they came
No one heard the music, we didn't look the same
I said hello to "Mary Lou", she belongs to me
When I sang a song about a honky-tonk, it was time to leave
But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well.
You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself
Someone opened up a closet door and out stepped Johnny B. Goode
Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell and lookin' like he should
If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck
But if memories were all I sang, I rather drive a truck
And it's all right now, learned my lesson well
You see, ya can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself"

@QMS All in all, it is a defiant song about a damn humiliating and totally uncalled for event in Ricky's life.
When I was 5, I stayed a few days with my grand parents in Houston. They lived in a duplex. Next door was a family that included a 16/17 year old girl. One night, she was all excited about going to a Ricky Nelson concert.
Garden Party takes me right back to that place, that time.
