Steampunk: Street Prophets Sunday All Day Brunch

Welcome to Sunday Brunch. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and let us know what is new with you. For those of us old enough to remember the television show The Wild, Wild West that is now what we call Steampunk. It has been said that Steampunk mainly takes place in an alternate Earth around the Victorian era where steam driven devices are the norm. Randall Garret's Lord Darcy books are a prime example of Steampunk literature. I have been making Steampunk Jewelry for a couple of years now. You can find more the jewelry at Unique Jewelry by Michele. Steampunk is about attitude.

In this episode of Days of Revolt, Chris Hedges interviews disbarred civil rights attorney Lynne Stewart and civil rights activist Ralph Poynter. They discuss the political radicalism of the 1960s and 1970s that Stewart and Poynter took part in, and debate where that political consciousness is today in the face of worsening social and economic conditions.

The Sanders Campaign Is Absolutely Destroying Us!" - California Green Party has lost 30% of its members since Bernie announced

Is that a problem or a solution?

With Sanders and Hillary Clinton locked in a statistical dead heat in California, at least according to the polls, a Sanders victory here may hinge on his ability to mobilize even more of these ultra-left voters. But consolidating that fractious group is no easy task, even for a democratic socialist who regularly sounds the themes of the Occupy movement.
...
Consider that Occupy Oakland has not promoted any events featuring Bernie Sanders—not even his Monday visit to Oakland's Frank Ogawa Plaza, the site of the group's original occupation. Instead, last week, Occupy Oakland urged its 47,000 Twitter followers to attend a Friday afternoon Berkeley rally hosted by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein.

"These folks don't hate the Democratic Party as much as they hate what it has become."

Stein attributes this support to her rejection of the Democratic Party and uncompromising stance on issues such as Palestinian rights. "Our campaign has liberty that Bernie Sanders does not because we are not on the leash of a corporate party sponsored by war profiteers and Wall Street banks," she told me. "Bernie has been restrained."

Well, this seems to be her who is not willing to work with Sanders, and not the other way around. Unless I just miss something.

Stein bristles at the notion that her campaign could be a spoiler in the Clinton-Sanders race: "This is basically a propaganda campaign, a disinformation campaign," she says. "The reality is that the lesser of two evils is not a solution."

Sanders' supporters here have spent months responding to such arguments. Tom Gallagher, a former chairman of the Democratic Socialists of America, has represented the Sanders campaign in two debates with left-wing political parties in the Bay Area, with another planned for Saturday at a Berkeley pub. He wrote a book several years ago arguing that leftists should occupy the Democratic Party.

"To me, this is the most important campaign in 40 years," says Gallagher, a former Ralph Nader supporter who is now a Democratic Party delegate representing San Francisco. "If we want [socialism] in play in this country we've gotta be in the presidential election—that's when people think about big ideas."

The day after Hillary is anointed by the superdelegates as Democratic nominee. Millions of dollars in small donations will start pouring into Jill Stein's campaign because informed people simply do not want Hillary as their President. I just hope enough people are turned off by Trump to keep him from winning. Jill Stein will do the least damage to us as President and may even do an enormous amount of good.

Beware the bullshit factories.

that Sanders is somehow "uncooperative" with the Greens and now he is "hurting them".

This is twice now, for the same outlet. No offense to you--it says what it says--but it would be good if we could find another outlet, corroborating the Greens officially taking this position. I've been looking since the time Mother Jones claimed that Bernie wasn't returning Jill Stein phone calls, and have yet to find other sources for same.

Either damning with faint praise, or subtly trying to drive wedges. Very disappointing.

I got around to looking at the mail (USPS) delivery from Saturday. One new pay call on my second mortgage, which had been paid in full by me then used again for useful projects like new roof shingles (after tearoff and some new plywood, I know how it's supposed to be done).

There is a yellow postcard from the Town of Dryden, NY (a founding township for anti-fracking). On the back is a sticker. To wit

Final Notice
Tickets to appear in local justice court will be issued if dog is not licensed by date indicated on this notice. ----ALL CAPS

They know my dog's name, they know my name and where I live. I must go to Town offices with rabies vaccination certificate and hand over $11.00 so that he is a State Dog, with tag from Ag and Markets. $10 of that is a local fee, $1.00 of that is a NY surcharge because...NY. I must renew by 6/22/16 or hellfire. My dog died on 3/23/16. I think I can call and have this taken care of, dog forbid I should have to prove death. A box of cremains good enough? Meanwhile new dog is sekrit until she is spayed, because yearly license fees are higher for unneutered animals. And then she will be in the System. Good dog.
