Photography Open Thread 05/27/2016
Friday Photography
Confession time. I intended to write at least something of an essay but it just didn't happen. I had a lot of editing work (other people's writing not photography) on this week and only handed in the last piece at around noon today. To cut a long story short my brain decided that was quite enough so, today, I have nothing - or at least very little.
Last week I wrote about abstraction and posted some black and white photographs by way of illustration. The images this week are color macro abstractions - all of these are around an inch across in the real world. The subject matter varies from actylic paintings to bubbles in glass to child's toys.
This weeks assignment is: Animals.
Please post any photos, comment about anything or ask any questions about photography (If I don’t know the answer someone here probably will)- Please treat this as a photography (and anything else for that matter) open thread.
Assignments
Last weeks Assignment -Abstraction
This weeks assignment - Animals
Pets, birds, fish, insects, wildlife of any sescription - its all good.
Where to post images
I'll put up a new thread tomorrow, around noon ET, specifically for the uploading of photos relating to the assignment. If you want to post them here and/or on tomorrow's thread that is fine. Also feel free to post any other images of anything on either today's or tomorrow's threads. The assignments are purely optional - just something to get the creative juices flowing.
This is an open thread so have at it. Post photos, questions, thoughts etc. - anything whatsoever to do with photography or anything at all for that matter.

Here is what our

Evening, steve, beautiful photos. Your photgraphy series is
doing real well, mate. I know zip about photography and usually only stop by to admire the photos and up-vote. I wondered today as I scrolled down whether you and JtC could figure out a way to preserve the series in the right-side sidebar. That way, new folks could go back and follow the series from the beginning and there's a record of the posts so that you all could refer back to stuff from earlier. Just a thought, mate. Best wishes,

Hi Gerrit
Really appreciate the support. Good thing about photography is knowing stuff is sort of optional. I like knowing the tech and history side but others are really happy to just pick up a camera and snap away - It is all good and it all adds to the whole. Some of the best photos I've ever seen are by people who wouldn't self describe as a photographer in a million years!
It is good to know that so many others here have an interest not just in photography but in the arts in general - I'm really enjoying Sharazade's arts based open threads.
Thanks again for the kind words

My pleasure
it was a bit shorter than planned. Time and willpower (or rather lack of ) were the enemy

This is cool
I like the geometry (and positioning of the bird)
-and of course monochrome is always good

evening steve...
here are a bunch of animal shots that i've taken over a few years time:
Evening joe
wonderful selection - the bug eyed green shrimp(?) is beautiful.
To be honest I have very few animal shots - something I didn't realize before today. A few pet portraits for clients and a couple of fish from the Shed Aquarium in Chicago and that is about it - A vacation to a place with lots of animals is in order I think - now to convince my wife

the shrimp...
is a peacock mantis shrimp that lives at the national aquarium in baltimore. it rarely comes out where you can get a shot of it, and when it does, there's usually a big crowd around it. i got lucky one evening.
i have a pretty heavily weighted set of animal photos. i have lots of pictures of butterflies and birds, but not so much of anything else. i'm hoping to add to my collection of wildlife photos when i go on vacation this summer, though if the wildlife doesn't cooperate, i will work on landscape photography and grumble because i dragged a big, heavy telephoto lens around for naught.
Nice shots--especially, the dog. ;-) EOM
Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong.
My mission
this year is to really get to grips with landscape photography. I bought a fast 11mm- 16mm lens for real estate work and now that I've got the hang of using it indoors I am itching to get out and about to see what sort of landscape shots I can get. Of course wide angles are really unforgiving as far as composition goes so it will be a challenge. It is also really heavy.
I hope that the wildlife cooperates for you

Good morning UL
That's a beautiful beagle - they are one of my favorite breeds. I haven't watched the Westminster show for several years now - we used to see it at the in-laws every year but stopped when they moved.
