NHK World Japan Program Running Today May 26th

It covers the Fukushima Daichi disaster and the facts and decisions surrounding it. My takeaway is that besides ceasing fossil fuel production and use, the world needs to stop mining, refining and using radioactive materials. The Fukushima disaster is now considered worse than Chernobyl.

I have watched the battle over nuclear power with dismay. It is not a clean source of power as spent fuel remains dangerous, even deadly for longer than the length of all human civilization.

Humanity seems bent on destroying itself by being unable to imagine our self-destruction. How long before the next, even worse disaster?

Although there are some uses of radioactive materials which heal and save (nuclear medicine), on the whole, you are correct. It isn't just "your" takeaway, it's the takeaway. Nuclear power is no answer to the need of humanity for manufactured energy. As you told us:

I have watched the battle over nuclear power with dismay. It is not a clean source of power as spent fuel remains dangerous, even deadly for longer than the length of all human civilization.

Over at TOP, we'd be lumped in with the likes of anti-vaxxers for our refusal to beLIEve that the spent fuel problem has been solved. It hasn't. That's a simple fact. And, to a large extent, the spent fuel problem is insoluble. Some of those spent fuel materials are just plain bad to have around no matter what you do with them.

The Fukushima Daichi disaster compounds this with siting a reactor on a geologically unstable locale, a dubious distinction it shares with the Diablo Canyon reactor in California.

Ocean. Radioactive water is being released into the ocean to do who knows what harm. Ironic, as the film Gojira, which spawned the Godzilla franchise was an indictment of the dangers of the nuclear age.

Not only geologically unstable, but it is right on the Pacific Ocean.

In both cases! The Diablo Canyon plant is situated at the mouth of the Canyon, at the Pacific Ocean.
