Album of the Week - 10-22-22

Afternoon folks!

This week there are some pretty diverse selections for you. There's blues by Brownie & Sonny (with Earl Hooker), Johnny Jenkins and a compilation album with a bunch of great bluesmen on it. There's Bill Withers Live at Carnegie Hall and blues rock by John Kay & Sparrow (an early forerunner of Steppenwolf). For some real diversity, there's Richard & Linda Thompson and an album by a bunch of sidemen called The Section.

Enjoy!

Here 'tis:

Brownie McGhee & Sonny Terry with Earl Hooker - I Couldn't Believe My Eyes

Johnny Jenkins - Ton Ton Macoute!

Blue Rocks

Bill Withers - Live At Carnegie Hall

John Kay & The Sparrow

Richard & Linda Thompson - Sunnyvista

The Section

I especially enjoyed The Section. Their jazz is such a familiar and appealing sound, but I don’t remember them specifically. Every piece of the album was super.

The John Kay and The Sparrow track had a bit of a Bob Dylan sound to it. I like Steppenwolf so thanks for the steer to the earlier group.

Their song about a son gone from the war was quite moving.

@QMS

LOVED the Vincent Black Shadow, and wrote of it often. Selected passages are located here, for the interested student... I don't know that he ever experienced the Lightning, but it would have been a hoot if he had!

He is sadly missed. I would give my left nut to find out his views on our current situation,

has quite few in running condition. I went with the Triumph Trident. 3 cylinders, 3 carbs. Never found the top end of that machine. Hot bike. BSA and Norton had a few good ones out there too
(early 70's). Remember this biker chick approached me in Phoenix, with a sorta good look :
So you ride english? (In reference to the old style of riding side saddle for ladies in dresses).
She was a harley type. I just smiled. Wink
