Acronyms

I've had several requests to have an acronym list here at c99p, on top of many complaints in the comment threads. I personally do not have the time to compile an acronym list and then update it as new ones pop up. I'd like to propose that someone volunteer to start an acronym essay that will be a running alphabetized list of common acronyms used here. A master alphabetized list can be compiled in the essay body and as folks want acronyms added to the list they can mention them in a comment. It would then be up to the essay's author to add them to the master list. I can then add a link to the acronym essay somewhere in the menus.

Any volunteers?

caucus99percent.com Sale Update

Last Friday night I posted an essay stating that c99p was for sale. It was met with an overwhelming response from the membership that I did not expect. Only meant as a feeler to see if there was any interest in buying the site, it evolved into an effort to save c99p as it stands. My response to that effort was an overwhelming sense of gratitude and love for you folks. Man, I did not expect that, and it touched me deeply. I knew some folks liked this place, but wow, did I underestimate the impact that this site has had on the members who use it. I was just blown away! You folks are the best!

With of that said, after getting many solid inquiries into buying it, the decision is:

I am not perfect, nor would I want to be.

Recently hopped into the world of Online Dating, at the request of one of my friends who thinks I need to get out there and stop being quite as much of a homebody, and it tossed a lot of my online reactions and interactions into sharp relief.

It's amazing, but even in a format where the ostensive goal is to meet and talk to people in a manner that facilitates meetings and interactions, there is the same kind of garbage that you see in all sorts of online interactions.

The Dreaded Site Meta - Shills and Thrills

tone controlGood evening friends and fellow judges of the Great Quadrennial National Beauty Pageant, whose season is now upon us.

Now that the preliminary rounds are over and we roll inexorably on to The Marking of the Ballots, it seems that many are concerned about the appearance of shills showing up at our virtual doorstep attempting to work the judges like a horde of deranged, door-knocking religious fanatics seeking converts.

But seriously folks, let's have a talk about shills.

Minor Site Changes

Publishing an essay is now a two step process. You must now click the "Preview" button before the "Publish" button displays. IOW you must preview the essay before publishing.

Clicking the button to publish any content (essay, comment, delete, etc.) will now disable the button and a spinning "Processing" symbol will be displayed until the initial request to the server is returned. This should help with the double posts as a double click will not be possible.
