Why Corbyn Will Win

Tomorrow the British Labour Party will announce the results of their second Leadership election in a year. Every expectation is that Jeremy Corbyn will win by a greater margin (60% - 40%) than he did the first time.

I am certainly going to revisit the mendacity and hubris of the Traitors at length, in depth, and repeatedly, because they illustrate so much of the Neoliberal sickness that infests our own politics but today I want to highlight the positive reasons he has won.

The "Good" War

It is certainly unpatriotic to suggest that our "exceptional" Nation would condone and encourage the sexual abuse of children by our noble partners in the struggle against Terrorist Extremism just as it would be to imply that we would deliberately bomb Hospitals, First Responders, and Civilians or support a systematic campaign by our upstanding and virtuous allies to do so.

I would never do something like that.

Yes, the United States Tortures

This is one of those stories where the government tries to mitigate the righteous wrath of any person who pretends a belief in morality, or even effectiveness, by attenuating the release of the shocking facts so that the War Criminals responsible for these horrific actions can dismiss them as "old news".

I hope your capacity for outrage and civilized sensibilities are never exhausted on this issue.

This weekend The Guardian is publishing a 3 part series on the Cover Up of our government's active participation in actually, factually, and directly Torturing People.

Italeave!

If you've been following the artificial currency crisis fueled by the Austerian impulse of the European Union's Neoliberal bureaucrats under the economic domination of German Banks it should be obvious that barring some miracle the common European Currency (the Euro) is doomed to destruction. Unfortunately for some of the starry-eyed idealists (or cynical apparatchiks, take your pick) who still have (or profess) faith in the "European Project" it seems increasingly likely that the Euro's demise will take the Union with it.

What the anti-democratic drones have done so far is ignore the systemic problems (like the appalling lack of democracy) in favor of "pissing on fires", "kicking the can down the road", "slapping on a Band-Aid", "extending and pretending", and "foaming the runway", which has had the sadly predictable result of allowing things to fester until moderate solutions are ineffective and radical change required.

On the other hand you can hardly blame them. Real reform requires a Treaty unanimously approved by all 28 National governments, something that was difficult then and is probably impossible now, because people (the 99%, the electorate on which the politicians and bureaucrats depend on for their phony baloney jobs) are very, very angry.

This isn't Wizard Tiddlywinks at Hogwarts

If you search Google News for Jeremy Corbin you'll find that J.K. Rowling can't sleep nights over the prospect of the impending Corbyn romp over Owen Smith in the Labour Leadership election (about which more in a moment). Indeed 'Corbyn is no Dumbledore' and-

One day in the far distant future we'll look back and we WONT LAUGH, LABOUR, BECAUSE THIS ISN'T BLOODY FUNNY.

Now admittedly that last was tweeted at 3:31 in the morning last Wednesday after her earlier tweets had not met the customary adulation.

Taking a Bite out of Apple

Full disclosure- I have a mint in box Apple ][c that I've never used and somewhere in a pile of pieces a Romar ][ clone that I used to develop an Applesloth Basic (much faster using Bill Gate's compiler) translation of an Insurance Rating program originally written for a Radio Shack Trash-80.

It was my first gig writing poetry for machines.

I parted ways with Apple after the ][e (the ][c was a trade in my boss gave me for a bonus because he had no use for it and it was slated for the dumpster) because it was clear that Apple was moving away from open architecture to proprietary (and much more expensive due to lack of competition) hardware and never looked back.

Just as well, things kept getting worse and worse with each new machine and useless toy (do you really need an iPod? Really?). On the other hand my Aunty Mame swears by them because she thinks they're easier to use. I disagree.

Normally I keep my opinions to myself (not terribly interested in re-litigating the language wars either which 'C' won hands down and if you don't think so take a look at the volume of software written using it and the number of variants) but what makes Apple newsworthy today is the recent $14 Billion tax judgement levied against them by the European Commission.

Apple claims they're going to appeal but unfortunately for them the European Commission is one of those 'Courts of No Appeal' that the European Union is riddled with. They're not accountable to anyone, least of all voters.

The Great Wall (Of Ice)

I feel somewhat compelled to be specific. Not the big pile of masonry in the Western part of China that you can see from Space. Not the huuge beautiful one on the Southern border of the United States that the Mexicans are going to pay for. Nope, the every bit as ambitious and likely to be just as ineffectual one in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, around the rotting radioactive ruins of the Daiichi Power Station.

For 5 and a bit years now ground water has been flooding in through the holes in the 3 containment units that suffered a nuclear melt down. There would have been more but those were the only ones in operation at the time. The water in turn has become quite radioactive itself and they've been pumping it into rusty and leaking tanks that now occupy most of the space at the site.

Well, they still have no idea what to do about that, but for the last couple of years or so they've been trying to cut off the incoming streams by freezing the soil to permafrost. How's that working out for them?

Communism on the March!

(Part 42, wherein we once again attack the practice of Mega-Coroprations expropriating Public Assets and marketing them for their own profit.)

Comerades! Our glorious Socialist Revolution once again advances against Capitalist Imperialism under the banner of our Trotskyite leader, Jeremy Corbyn!

His Radical Plan to actually make Public Scientific Research... well, Public will surely bring the Running Dogs and their Dead Parrot Media to their Knees!

Knees! I tells yah.

To Anacreon In Heaven

As you know I think Throwball an exceptionally stupid sport played by brain and steroid damaged people who without their not as remunerative as you might think contracts would find gainful employment as muggers and Mob enforcers. The fans are not much better though marginally more civilized than the typical denizens of the parking lots and infields of Turn Left Bumper Cars.

So I was pleasantly surprised this weekend when Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers Quarterback, refused to stand for the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. … There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.

As The Intercept's Jon Schwarz points out, what's strange is that African-American players stand for “The Star-Spangled Banner” at all.

The Anti-Democratic Equation

I have no idea how many of you are Comic Book Graphic Novel Nerds like I am (the very term "Graphic Novel" leads me to suspect it was invented by a Geek, not that there's anything wrong with that) so indulge me in a brief examination of the Kirbyverse.

Without investing in too many details the big bad is a guy named Darkseid, who uses his nigh unlimited power (Superman is no match without allies) to search for the "Anti-Life Equation"- a formula that renders sentient beings, possessed of self identity and free will, into mindless slaves.

Ok, now you have the metaphor.
