See Google's Real Time Trends in the First Debate

We learned that Google Trends kept up with debate-related searches across the nation at various points durning the First Debate. All candidates surged in the number of searches at some point during the debates.

Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey ended up being the most searched candidate during the debate. Sen. Tulsi Gabbard came in a close second.

Sen. Julián Castro, the former secretary of housing and urban development, surged in search volume and scored well in other metrics, as well.

My husband received a mailer today from Americans for Prosperity. You know the roots of the Tea
Party founded by Charles H. and David Koch. That Americans for Prosperity.

So much imagine my surprise when I read the mailer. It begins:

But imagine that you’re in the Twilight Zone, or in a parallel universe, watching as the fading Western Empire goes full-tilt loose cannon and attempts to exert full command-and-control of the planet.  A refusal to cede to the inevitability of a multi-polar world in power and influence, trade, including ridiculous nationalistic levels of imposed tariffs, killing sanctions, wars in 40% of the nations on the globe (Africom and re-purposed cold war 2.0 NATO), cyber-space, and more.

The ignorance of Americans about the rest of the world has been the subject of jokes for decades.
However, that ignorance isn't funny when it gets us into wars.
For instance, Trump's approach appears to be to apply more and more pressure to Iran, bringing us closer and closer to war, in order to force them to negotiate from a position of weakness.
