Why the 2016 rigged Democratic primary isn’t going away
May 21, 2019 by Barbara With

In July 2016, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) was caught rigging the Democratic primary in favor of Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders. On the eve of the Democratic National Convention, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and three other top DNC officials were forced to step down when Wikileaks emails confirmed that they had been lying for months.

Emails proved that throughout the primaries, decisions were made by DNC officials to help Clinton build and maintain a lead over Sanders, despite their continual denials, misleading the public, and in violation of their own charter:

The Chairperson shall exercise impartiality and evenhandedness as between the Presidential candidates and campaigns. The Chairperson shall be responsible for ensuring that the national officers and staff of the Democratic National Committee maintain impartiality and evenhandedness during the Democratic Party Presidential nominating process.

The rigging resulted in a devastating loss for the Democrats later that November, as Donald Trump became the 45th president of the United States when millions of voters did a #demexit, refusing to support the Democratic party as the greater of the two evils.

Unless US citizens get their focus off Russia and onto the real election stealing happening at home, we will keep in place a compromised voting system that both corporate parties will continue to take advantage of. We must find a way to educate ourselves on what U.S. fascism is and how not to inadvertently support it, break through the two-party corporate rule, and make sure that “unity” will not become a one-party military industrial complex taking us further down the slippery slope of becoming a totalitarian state.

You're in one...

Seeing as the things keep coming back, won't be killed, and are fiendishly Clever, I'm sorry to say we're stuck in the "Return of The Living Dead" mythos on this one. They've even taken over the folks who were supposed to be on our side, so yep... totally that depressing version.

Welp, might as well get in the right mindset... since that was very early 80's...

Seriously though, I find it depressing as hell, and the closer the election gets the more we're going to hear about how we should have made our protests at the appropriate time... Honestly, I'm for going to the pub and talking and drinking...

out. John Lewis saying that Dems didn’t want “free stuff,” the Bernie Bro nonsense, the general attitude of entitlement to my vote on top of the incidents at the Nevada caucus all had me come disgusted with the Democrats.

Julian Assange’s activities had nothing to do with my Dem-exit. The Dems did that all by themselves with no help from anybody.

Edit: Iowa to Nevada. That was a major screw up on my part. I had the Nevada pictures in my mind, but wrote Iowa.

Probably as many reasons as people. It is about "Why the 2016 rigged Democratic primary isn’t going away", and she does an extensive and accurate retelling of reasons why there will be no party unity in 2020.

Lots of articles using shorthand and failing to grasp the depth and intensity of the divide within and about the party.

by the Democrats. Certainly I did mention my doing so, but the greater point of my comment was that I didn’t need the revelations of Wikileaks to smell a rat. Even without the Wikileaks disclosures, there was enough information freely circulating in the media to see that TPTB had their collective fingers on the scale.

It may be that the handling of Assange will further choke off information, but you just can’t disguise the increasing sense of entitlement of TPTB like Clinton, Obama and the rogues gallery of the GOP. And please don’t consider the aforementioned to be an exhaustive list, BTW.

I never wanted to enter the world of a dystopian novel, so l’m sorry to find that I have.

I knew there was evil afoot, but I didn't have the emails to prove it. You know how people always accuse the Dems of being dumb when it comes to fighting Republicans when they have such skill and acumen when it comes to screwing over their voters? Well I wasn't that naive. I knew it had to be purposeful. I just didn't know how purposeful.

could be used to convince others of the perfidy of the Dems, but they countered with Russiagate. Yet really we don’t need the emails when we have the Dems standing up in court and saying before god and everybody, It’s our ball and we can take it and go home! They sound exactly like the spoiled, entitled rich kids they are. You can completely avoid the subject of Russiagate if you just quote what they said in court.

The point that the persecution of Assange as well as whistleblowers is meant to cast a chill over the national conversation is a good one. Even without Wikileaks we know the fix is in, at least until the non Wikileaks information disappears down the Memory Hole.

That the election was rigged is treated as conspiracy theory on some sites. No matter that DWS admitted in court that it was, if people don't accept it then it never happened....
folks like to cover their eyes and ears and refuse to see the truth.

Lots of people think that Assange is going through this because of Russia Russia Russia. I guess reading comprehension is hard if ones mind is already made up.

The piece by Barbara With is one of the best summaries of the malevolence of the Democratic Party establishment with respect to the 2016 election I have seen. I particularly like the reference to blue fascism vs red fascism.

I agree that this is one of the best that really showed how the primary was rigged. The use of paid trolls by Correct the Record was borderline election fraud, but I don't remember why it was. The article I saved on it is buried deep in some bookmark, but I will try to find it later today.

This though was out and out election fraud:

Hillary Victory Fund Money Laundering

In an unprecedented deal revealed by Interim DNC Chair Donna Brazile in her book Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns that Put Donald Trump in the White House, Clinton signed a joint financing agreement with the party early in 2015 which put her in charge of all aspects of DNC operations. The DNC then created the Hillary Victory Fund (HVF), based on agreements made with 33 state Democratic parties. Donors could give up to $356,100: the first $2,700 was to go to Clinton’s campaign, the next $33,400 would go to the DNC, and what remained—up to $10,000 per state—was to be equally divided between the 33 state parties who signed onto the agreement.

In reality, the state parties immediately gave their share back to the DNC, who then transferred it to the Hillary for America fund. According to Brazile, the states kept less than half of 1 percent of the $82 million amassed from the extravagant fundraisers Clinton’s campaign was holding. The plan was little more than money laundering. Sanders sent a complaint to Wasserman Schultz in April 2016:

“Bernie 2016 is particularly concerned that these extremely large-dollar individual contributions have been used by the Hillary Victory Fund to pay for more than $7.8 million in direct mail efforts and over $8.6 million in online advertising, both of which appear to benefit only HFA by generating low-dollar contributions that flow only to HFA, rather than to the DNC or any of the participating state party committees.”

In a statement Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook called the charges “baseless.”

“It is shameful that Senator Sanders has resorted to irresponsible and misleading attacks just to raise money for himself,” Mook said. “Instead of trying to convince the next generation of progressives that the Democratic Party is corrupt, Senator Sanders should stick to the issues and think about what he can do to help the Party he is seeking to lead.”

Last time I looked to see where the case against Hillary stood I didn't find anything except for the original articles saying that there was a lawsuit on it. Hillary had to pull out all the stops and blatantly cheat to win the primary just so that she could lose to Trump in the general. And for those who want to blame Comey for her loss I disagree. I think it was the Wikileaks files that showed how much she did cheat. Thanks, Julian!

we wouldn't be in this mess. LBJ had Nixon cold, but for some reason refused to reveal his treason. Why? It was an illegal wire tap, so it was inadmissible. Then expose the traitor - at least end the treason. It would look like a dirty trick and give the election to Nixon? That's the risk you have to take. Instead we had to live through 6 years of Nixon before his flunkies turned on him.
Instead LBJ didn't trust truth and justice. This led to Carter failing to act against Reagan's treason, and that led to GWB, and that led to Hillary, and THAT is why we have Trump.
Thom Hartmann is wrong. THIS is how a republic dies.

A PROUD Hillary hater since 1993

@doh1304 was never about the truth, and he only cared about justice to the extent he and his cronies got theirs.

Dirty but not entirely uncommon political tricks vs Treason? Gee, I wonder how many Americans would have punished the dirty tricks and overlooked the treason, in 1968. I wonder too whether LBJ worried that uncovering that can of worms would lead to Nixon exposing a far worse can of worms re Lyndon, because the official explanation by historians, the few who have commented on this, seems weak. My sense of it is LBJ didn't want to go down that path because paranoid Lyndon wasn't sure it could lead to serious repercussions for him having nothing to do with inappropriate surveillance.

In Carter's defense, the treasonous/felonious activity by the Reagan/Bush team (primarily Poppy and Bill Casey) didn't get fleshed out until years later, and although Carter might have had suspicions, he had a campaign and country to run and there were only a few months until the election. I put far more blame on the congressional committee, headed by Deep State-friendly Lee Hamilton, which took a dive on undertaking a solid honest investigation. The late Robert Parry wrote a lot about this.

Ditto for the deep dive by the House-Senate joint committee allegedly looking into Iran-Contra, also with Lee Hamilton running the show (co-hosted by the establishment's friend, Sen Dan Inouye). An investigation wittingly designed not to go after the big enchiladas, Ronnie and Poppy. Too soon after Watergate they said -- the country couldn't survive another presidential impeachment crisis.

Thom Hartmann?? What about Thom the Russiagater?

after the 2018 Blue Wave
election, with people like
AOC winning big time
elections on their very
first attempts, well... that
was a good indication that they're
never going to get it - and frankly don't give
a flying fuck about their own constituency.
'They' are the adults in the room, the 'little people'
be damned.
'They' of course being the party Establishment /DNC.

So, yeah, we go into 2020 eyes open knowing nothing has
changed since 2016, the party Establishment hell bent still
on moving the party ever Rightward on its Turd Way, and they'll
nominate whomever they wish to nominate, tyvm, the Primaries
inconsequential.
