Arise?

Open Thread Image.jpg

This is a clip of the documentary Zeitgeist. This segment explains the connection of religion and the movement of the heavens.

The film's first segment, 28-minutes in duration, is unparalleled in its succinct yet potent discussion of religion, and its relation to history and current culture. Splendid narration, background music, and visuals make this segment spellbinding. But more importantly, the message is factual and nothing short of profound.

I hope that I didn't offend anyone's religious beliefs, but I found the clip to be very interesting and it seems appropriate on Easter. The movement of the heavens captured the attention of early humans and shaped much of the understanding of our place in the scheme of things. However it is more than just the heavens, it is the nature of the rebirth of spring. Here in the deciduous forests trees leaf out and many of them bloom. It is a powerful visual display to experience the forests awaking, arising from its winter sleep.

Myths are a powerful piece of our societies and belief systems. The myths can shape the nature of the culture. The similarity of spring myths across cultures is interesting. (5 min)

EOSTRE
Anglo-Saxon Fertility Goddess

Also known as Eastre, Ēostre, Ostara
Spring Goddess of Fertility and bouncy bunny girl

She has her own festival on 21 March, the Spring Equinox, in which bouncing springy behavior is encouraged.

A Germanic goddess, Eostre was very popular with the Anglo-Saxon pagan brigade who worshiped her under the name — and kicked off the whole Easter business without a Jesus in sight. If you ever wondered what eggs and bunnies have to do with crucifixion and resurrection, the answer is: absolutely nothing.

Eostre’s sacred animal is a cute wittle wabbit — an obvious symbol of fertility — and the egg is her symbol of fertile purity. So Easter Egg hunts are actually packed with symbolic meanings of rebirth and renewal. And Elmer Fudd is obviously just a high priest of the Great Easter Bunny.

In case you think we’re being flippant, recent research suggests that Eostre herself may have been invented during a mischievous moment by the Venerable St. Bede. This well-known monk mentioned her in connection with the pagan festival Eosturmonath in a book written in 750 AD — but extensive research has failed to find a trace of her prior to that. Could he possibly have been fibbing?

Rabbits and hares are ubiquitous in mythology. Every culture seems to have a rabbit god — and they’re nearly always trickster spirits.

I loved Brer Rabbit and the Uncle Remus stories. For some reason they were labeled racist. I never understood why since Uncle Remus was the wise one, but...

The stories of Brer Rabbit are generally trickster tales and involve Brer Rabbit getting himself into trouble through his own selfishness or mischievous nature. He must then use his cleverness to get himself out of trouble.

I also enjoyed the book, Watership Down, which tells the story of a rebel colony of wild rabbits. It was made into an animated movie.

So rabbits and eggs are fertility symbols associated with Easter and spring. They are also two good homesteading enterprises. I've never raised rabbits, but my understanding is that it is fairly easy and can be done on pasture.

Rabbit-Tractor_Amethyst-Pines.jpg

A common meat in Europe, American’s eat far more chicken compared to their neighbors across the Atlantic. Rabbit is not dissimilar from chicken meat except for one main point that we like to tell people. Rabbit meat is far more sustainable as a meat source. Rabbits can thrive on perennial grasses and tree crops without the need for annual grains that require large amounts of inputs to produce.

Egg mobiles are also a common homesteading practice, that is a moveable coop and access to fresh pasture every day. They are found across the world

The captured media is much of the problem...

With Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine a crisis of historic proportions has emerged front and center in world politics. The warmongering US corporate media headline the Biden Administration’s every pronouncement, daily blaring that Putin’s Russia is the aggressor, that Russia is bombing civilians, that it is intent on taking over all of Ukraine and that it poses a threat to NATO, if not to all of “democratic” Europe. All the corporate institutions of manufacturing consent are united behind the Biden administration’s imposition of unprecedented and crippling economic sanctions against Russia. Germany and France have been pressured to bend to US demands to cancel the planned Nord Stream 2 undersea pipeline that would have carried cheap Russian gas across the continent to Western Europe. No doubt, elimination of all Russian gas pipelined through Ukraine, not to mention the Middle East, remains a top priority of US oil giants, ever eager to sell US-fracked gas everywhere, even if the costs to Western European countries are double or triple the current Russian rates.

https://unac.notowar.net/2022/03/02/the-crisis-in-ukraine-major-challeng...

Even before Russia invaded Ukraine, Western media have depicted Russian President Vladimir Putin as an irrational—perhaps mentally ill—leader who cannot be reasoned or bargained with. Such portrayals have only intensified as the Ukraine crisis came to dominate the news agenda.

The implications underlying these media debates and speculations about Putin’s psyche are immense. If one believes that Putin is a “madman,” the implication is that meaningful diplomatic negotiations with Russia are impossible, pushing military options to the forefront as the means of resolving the Ukraine situation.

When will we ever learn?

We learned this song in school, and it was also common at summer camp. I'm afraid children are not taught to sing in school, and certainly not antiwar songs like this.

Well despite the craziness of our times, I hope you all have a lovely Easter and Passover and will celebrate the day in the manner of your choice.

Pysanky Ukrainian egg painting ..

~

1200px-Pysanky2011.jpg

~

Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Eggs) are hand painted using a wax resist method. This ancient form of art dates back well before Christianity when only women were allowed to create these beautiful designs.

The traditional method of making Pysanky is to begin with a clean, fresh raw egg. A “kistka” (drawing tool) is then used to create the designs, layering melted beeswax throughout each color. The is then melted off revealing all the different colors!

Each symbol and color on the Pysanky represents a wish for its recipient.

Bought a ham on sale, and froze most of it. Cooking the first of the spring cabbages.

Yesterday I pressure cooked the bone and got more meat and stock. Then cooked beans in the stock and made a ham and bean soup, most of which I'll also freeze. It is pretty tasty I must admit. Lots of mileage with a ham, but we rarely eat it.

Thanks for the other meal suggestions. Hope all went well with the boat projects this week. We planted tomatoes yesterday and more lettuce...garden is coming along nicely. Hope y'all are having nice weather!

having early spring, or at least some warm weather.
I had 6" of wet snow last Monday and a flurry yesterday here in Vancouver Wa. Temp aren't that bad though. Got a crapload of last seasons potatos sprouting eyes 3" long. Need to get them in the ground.
Seedroom is prolific under the lights, but they will need to go in the ground soon also.
Had lots of rain this year. So constant I had to cover my little 14 x 22 garden here at home with plastic. The 75 x 75 garden at "The Farm" is covered in 8" of leaves from last fall. Hoping that helps keep it somewhat less muddy. Otherwise, will be learning what happens when you plant potatos in mud.
Have a good Easter.

Can you imagine the reaction from the intelligence agencies when they learned that their super secret hush hush bio weapons labs got exposed because the fck up son of Biden dropped off his laptop and then abandoned it? No wonder Barr and the FBI sat on it and quashed the story before the election.

Hunter Biden Funnelled Tons of Money to Metabiota For Bioweapon Research Near Russian Border

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday that Hunter Biden’s investment fund was supporting the Pentagon’s military-biological program in Ukraine. The fund has significant financial resources in the amount of at least $2.4 billion, according to the military.

Hunter Biden’s correspondence with Pentagon defense contractor Metabiota revealed how the son of then vice president leveraged his influence as a board member of Ukrainian gas firm Burisma to funnel money into pandemic-causing pathogen research just a few hundred miles from the Russian border.

The emails were found on Hunter Biden’s laptop that he abandoned at a Delaware repair shop as his father was running for president in 2019, the New York Post said. The UK’s Daily Mail was first to report on his role in bankrolling pathogen research.

But in addition to classified information being on the laptop there were lots of pictures of said son doing drugs and having sexual encounters and with some possibly under aged girls. And then instead of acting embarrassed as hell said son goes on the news and admits that yes indeed he did drop it off. Plus he admitted that the Russians might have stolen another one when he was coked to the gills!

There are documents and photos of what the diseases they were cooking up look like in the article. Again I just cannot imagine how evil one must be to be involved in creating harmful things. Weapons, viruses, etc. Doctors swear an oath to do no harm and then do it anyway.

Sorry. The pictures are in this article.

They were experimenting on Ukrainians.

The allegations concern a laboratory located in Merefa, a city in Ukraine's Kharkov region, located about 20 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital. The Russian military claimed that in the period between 2019 and 2021, "American scientists from the lab" have carried out a series of experiments on human beings, using the patients at a psychiatric ward in Kharkov as subjects.

Despite Nuland’s confirmation, Biden Administration officials continue to insist the claims are false.

@snoopydawg From an interview with Maria Zakharova. Russian Director of the Foreign Ministry Information and Press Department

Question: What is Russia doing to see that the United States provides clarification on its military biological cooperation with Ukraine?

Maria Zakharova: Russia has made public the facts that have come to light to date at the UN and other international organisations and called on the US authorities to provide detailed explanations, but, predictably, Washington does not appear to be ready to share with the public any meaningful information on its military biological programme in Ukraine.

Furthermore, clearly, the White House thinks that offence is the best defence and has launched yet another propaganda campaign centered on the false assertion that our country’s efforts to draw the attention of the international community to the activities of US military biologists in Ukraine are allegedly nothing more than a smoke screen, which, they say, Moscow will try to use to cover up the potential use of biological or chemical weapons during the special military operation that is conducted by the Russian Armed Forces.

This crude attempt by the US to divert public attention from this dangerously explosive issue of US-controlled biological laboratories in Ukraine and to drown it in this “apocalyptic sensation” was – at first glance unexpectedly – strongly supported by German political leadership. A number of leading German politicians and top officials, including Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, have released statements that mimic the US narrative in the form of righteous threats and warnings directed at Russia. Berlin’s official proactive verbal stance remains in line with the strategy that it has pursued for a long time now in the context of the Ukraine crisis (which isn’t helpful in settling it now and which earlier led the Minsk process into a dead-end with its deliberate pro-Kiev slant), but nevertheless stands out in its blatant cynicism of the overall flow of anti-Russia rhetoric that has been coming from Germany in recent weeks. First of all, in view of the key circumstance that even before the Russian Armed Forces started this special military operation, Germany, alongside the United States, had been conducting vigorous military biological activities in Ukraine for many years and, possibly, continues to do so. We strongly believe that this is largely what motivates Germany to be more active, as compared to other EU countries, in its attempts to ascribe to our country criminal plans concerning the use of biological and chemical weapons in Ukraine and the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, which have not yet been liberated.

Question: Are there any additional details about Germany’s military biological activities in Ukraine?

Maria Zakharova: For you to better understand the situation, I will cite the following facts. Since 2013, under the auspices of the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Government has been implementing the German Biosecurity Programme (GBP) which includes partnership projects with government agencies and research organisations in focus countries, which Ukraine became part of in 2014, the year of Maidan. German specialists from the Institute of Microbiology of the German Armed Forces (Munich), Friedrich Loeffler Institute (Greifswald-Riems Island), Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (Hamburg) and the Robert Koch Institute (Berlin), which specialise in research of deadly biological agents, are engaged in practical activities.

According to the German Federal Foreign Office, the third phase of the GBP will be implemented in 2020-2022. We can infer from the publicly available materials that the GBP’s stated technical goals include, among others, the gathering of epidemic intelligence in third countries, including with the use of big data technology, and developing the infrastructure of partner countries for handling dangerous biological agents.

The Institute of Experimental and Clinical Veterinary Medicine in Kharkov has been the Institute of Microbiology of the German Armed Forces’ main Ukrainian counterparty since 2016, which we know from its own data. The two institutes cooperate under the Ukrainian-German project titled “Initiative on Biological Safety and Biological Defence in the Management of the Zoonotic Risks at the Outer Borders of the European Union.” The fact that its official goal is to “improve the biological defence and security situation” in Ukraine, “particularly in the east of the country” gives rise to the rhetorical question of which border the German military biologists consider an outer border for the purposes of their professional interests. Is it the Russian-Ukrainian border?

The Institute of Microbiology claims in its materials that the project is related to the “potential threat of biological terrorism” in Ukraine amid the unending hostilities in eastern regions of that country. It is crystal clear that this is a way to send a subtle message about the DPR and LPR’s possible “involvement” in hatching plans for the use of internationally prohibited biological weapons. In so doing, the German military have been deliberately intimidating their Ukrainian counterparts for a long time and have, in fact, been psychologically pitting them against the Donbass republics. Ukrainian biological safety experts invariably participate in the medical biodefence conferences that are regularly held by the Institute of Microbiology of the German Armed Forces.

Obviously, to ensure protection against a potential biological attack, it is first necessary to study the potential biological agents with which it can be made. In other words, it is necessary to conduct research in the field of biological or chemical weapons. The Armed Forces of Germany (AFG) have enough knowledge and practical skills in this area, as was demonstrated by the scandalous incident with the mysterious poisoning of blogger Alexey Navalny. Specialists from the AFG Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology – a military institution allied with the AFG Institute of Microbiology – supposedly very quickly detected in the body of the Russian citizen traces of some military toxin that NATO lists in the Novichok family. Such a high level of expertise – if, of course, all statements were factually accurate – suggests that the AFG is able to synthesise toxic substances independently, including the notorious Novichok and its markers.

and the lake level have been dropping for years, but it’s just been the last 2 years that the government has decided to start doing something about it. Government has watched for years as the level of water in Powell and Mead have been dropping, but now both are at emergency levels? BS!

Water has been diverted from the lake more and more every year and they knew this was coming, but did nothing. In 1983 we had to divert the water coming from 2 rivers from mountain snow melt down the streets of SLC and pumps were built to pump the water out of the lake into the desert because it was so full. Those billion dollar pumps are sitting high and dry now, but boy someone got rich off of them.

I’m supposed to only water my lawn once a week this year while the Saudis get to continue growing alfalfa to export home and golf courses get to be as green as they want and the FB and NSA data centers can use as much as they want. BS again. Or they want people to rip out their lawns and put in rocks and other BS type things. We should leave the lawns in and plant lots of trees for their cooling effects and other eco friendly stuff. But the point is that too many people have done nothing to stop the emergency that the west is now in. 20 fcking years! I have an idea. @ggersh .

From where I sit, connecting the dots lead me to believe that the Great Reset is being set upon us as we speak. The WEF elites could care less about humanity and society as it is now on.

This is the single most important question facing humanity: What are the specific goals of the reset?

There was never any doubt about whether the World Economic Forum was promoting the idea of an "industrial revolution" that would transform society as much as the Industrial Revolution that began more than three centuries ago. They put out that story themselves. Beyond that vague ambition overtly expounded by the WEF, the realities of overpopulation and climate change can only be addressed by a single central global authority -- and of course the billionaires and their lackeys are just as aware of this reality as every message board voice on the planet.

The most common "explanation" coming from critics of public policy on Covid and Ukraine is petty greed by Big Pharma and petty stupidity from Neo Con Psychos. I don't buy either assessment.

This disagreement among critics about the motivation behind these stark examples of totalitarianism poses a life and death problem for those of us who dissent from the obvious irrationality of public policies that are destroying what we have had the chutzpah to call "Civilization."

Just about everybody agrees that big changes need to be made. It just seems hard for people to consider that the zillionaires of the world might agree with that thought -- and are using their preposterous amounts of political power and wealth to make some fundamental changes.

The one guy you cannot negotiate with is your murderer. Hard to imagine that people might want us dead because there are too many of us. Hard to imagine that people might figure that all our consumer comforts (like air travel) that made so many capitalists super rich might be the single biggest threat to the planet's ecology and social order.

The simplest answer is sometimes the right answer.

.
Final related note -- one meme I see on the internet these weird days is that there is a "propaganda war" going on parallel to the organized violence in Ukraine. You see factoid battles over earth shaking questions like is General Fucknuts really a prisoner of Putin? Or, did Ukraine sink a Ruskie warship? I cannot avoid busting out in obnoxious laughter as I see people on the internet arguing furiously about the truthiness of the conflicting accounts.

Propaganda is more subtle than most people realize. Especially now, it is not necessary for anybody to believe a lie. It is the goal for the irrelevant lie to become yet another silly pissing match over micro details that mean abso fuking lutely nothing.

It appears to me that whoever is creating the narrative has completely abandoned plausibility in their contradictory crapola. All they want is for people to stay pissed at each other rather than Them. In fact, there is a factoid battle over whether They even exist. See how this shit works?

Is this a great country or what?

As to propaganda...that's all that is available in the US.

https://www.rcreader.com/commentary/what-is-the-great-reset

The Great Reset aims to usher in a bewildering economic amalgam – Schwab’s stakeholder capitalism – which I have called “corporate socialism” and Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben has called “communist capitalism.”

In brief, stakeholder capitalism involves the behavioral modification of corporations to benefit not shareholders, but stakeholders – individuals and groups that stand to benefit or lose from corporate behavior. Stakeholder capitalism requires not only corporate responses to pandemics and ecological issues such as climate change, “but also rethinking [corporations’] commitments to already-vulnerable communities within their ecosystems.” This is the “social justice” aspect of the Great Reset. To comply with that, governments, banks, and asset managers use the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) index to squeeze non-woke corporations and businesses out of the market. The ESG index is essentially a social credit score that is used to drive ownership and control of production away from the non-woke or non-compliant.

One of the WEF’s many powerful “strategic partners,” BlackRock, Inc., the world’s largest asset manager, is solidly behind the stakeholder model. In a 2021 letter to CEOs, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink declared that “climate risk is investment risk,” and “the creation of sustainable index investments has enabled a massive acceleration of capital towards companies better prepared to address climate risk.” The COVID pandemic, Fink wrote, accelerated the flow of funds toward sustainable investments:

We have long believed that our clients, as shareholders in your company, will benefit if you can create enduring, sustainable value for all of your stakeholders … . As more and more investors choose to tilt their investments towards sustainability-focused companies, the tectonic shift we are seeing will accelerate further. And because this will have such a dramatic impact on how capital is allocated, every management team and board will need to consider how this will impact their company’s stock.

Fink’s letter is more than a report to CEOs. It is an implicit threat: be woke or else.

I would define it as capitalist fascism.

“Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power.” — Benito Mussolini

It is generally attributed to an article written by Mussolini in the 1932 Enciclopedia Italiana with the assistance of Giovanni Gentile, the editor.

The quote, however, does not appear in the Enciclopedia Italiana in the original Italian.

It does not appear in the official English translation of that article: Benito Mussolini, 1935, “The Doctrine of Fascism,” Firenze: Vallecchi Editore.

The individual most responsible for reviving Obamacare and the associated “Independent Payment Advisory Board” of cost-effectiveness “experts” under Joe Biden is the same figure who crafted the original Affordable Care Act in 2009.

“The ill-conceived `love of thy neighbor’ has to disappear, especially in relation to inferior or asocial creatures. It is the supreme duty of a national state to grant life and livelihood only to the healthy and hereditarily sound portion of the people in order to secure the maintenance of a hereditarily sound and racially pure folk for all eternity…”

– Dr. Arthur Guett, Nazi Director of Public Health, 1935

“As many people are now aware, embedded within the $1.9 trillion COVID relief package is a $40 billion program to revive and expand the corpse of Obama Care’s enrollment protocols and the worst aspects of State directed medical resource allocation for the most vulnerable (and financially burdensome) of society. While few details have been unveiled beyond a mass expansion of enrollment into the plan on a revived healthcare.gov, several red alarms have been raised which began with the appointment of Obama-care architect Ezekiel Emmanuel to Biden’s COVID task force last year and the re-ascendency of hives of cost-cutting behaviorists to positions of power.”

By 2030, it is currently estimated people over the age of 85 will triple while seniors between 65-85 will double. The financial costs of sustaining this demographic will skyrocket as healthcare services double from their currently massive $1.4 trillion/year to $3 trillion/year by 2050 (in the USA).

As cost-effectiveness experts look at this dismal trend, all they can see is a cold numbers game. These experts don’t tend to see humans with cognitive powers and souls and they certainly don’t recognize the existence of such immaterial notions as the “sacred” which might prevent the culling of lives in order to satisfy monetary constraints.

They certainly don’t recognize the injustices of a system that allows trillions of dollars to be spent for Wall Street bailouts and Middle East wars but which fails to provide the medical resources to service its own population fairly. The experts I am talking about who once ruled America under Barack Obama and who have resurged into power under Biden only see the cold fact that 80% or more of the healthcare costs absorbed throughout one’s life occur after 65 years of age. These experts can only think in terms of adapting to scarcity and supposedly “fixed limits” but never eliminating scarcity through systemic changes that place human life and creative thought on a higher priority than mere money.

Americans will never get health care because it’s one way to get rid of those who the parasites think are not worth it. Why else would big pharma get to raise insulin prices so high when more and more people cannot afford to buy it? Trump had made it so no one paid more than $35. Biden immediately rescinded it and democrats just made it so anyone who has insurance doesn’t have to pay more than that for it. But if you don’t have insurance? Too bad. Good luck trying to pay over $1,000 a month for it. There have already been lots of deaths because people weren’t taking the full dose because they couldn’t afford to. Big pharma is raising prices on lots of other drugs too. Congress is silent…

ETA a bit more. Make sure you read the whole thing. This is one of the sickest things I’ve read and it certainly needs to go viral. Those death panels that republicans were talking about were true. If you are too old and to sick then if you are in a nursing home or maybe not doctors can set you up for end of life care which is just a polite way to say eugenics. Obama installed lots of eugenicists on the panel that made up the ACA. I’d go as far as calling Obama one. And of course Biden and every democrat who knows what they passed and every congress member who has stayed quiet about this.

Russia announces space war on Elon Musk's Starlink satellites, accepts Moskva was attacked

Space X's Starlink internet constellation has angered Russia as it was reported that the Starlink satellite constellation was used to guide and modify fire on the Black Sea Fleet's flagship, the cruiser Moskva and it sank because of that. This was revealed by new data from the Russian Federation's General Staff. Dmitry Medvedev, who has ordered to destroy the Starlink satellite constellation located over Russian Federation territory, the special military operation zone and the Black Sea basin in order to ensure the security of all units participating in the special military operation.

He further stated that Russia has no intentions to militarize outer space but it will also not allow others to do so suggesting that it will take action against whoever tries to militarize outer space. During the examination into the causes of the loss of the Black Sea fleet's flagship, Dmitry Medvedev said that Osipov I.V., Commander of the Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet, would be removed, according to the State Duma.

Starlink satellite technology assisting Ukrainian drone units

Earlier, it was reported that Elon Musk's Starlink satellite technology is assisting an elite Ukrainian drone unit in destroying Russian weapons, according to the Times of London. The Aerorozvidka, which is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces specialising in aerial reconnaissance and drone warfare uses drones equipped with infrared cameras to observe Russian military equipment such as tanks and command vessels at night.

Who thinks it’s a good idea to ring the planet with tens of thousands of satellites just so another billionaire can make more billions? Musk is worth $250 billion which he made the bulk of just the last 2 years.

Is it live or photoshopped? It’s definitely not true that the graves are from the current conflict. Yesterday I read that Russia had mined the cemetery but people braved the conditions anyway and held a ceremony there. Who in their right mind would risk getting blown to smithereens if that was true? But looking at the responses to this tweet many people believe it. How do we recover from this amount of propaganda? Was it this bad during the 2 great wars? Goebbels apparently adopted his propaganda from Wilson who used it in WWW 1.

We can thank Obama for the government being allowed to do this after he rescinded the Smith-Mundt act that now allows them to use propaganda here at home. Not that they hadn’t in the past, but this is off the charts. We can also thank Rachel Rachel for her never ending Russia Russia bull crap. People who once would have been pushing for ways to end the conflict and make peace have become blood thirsty people who want Russian blood. I’m thoroughly disgusted with my fellow Americans. Great thread.

Germans are told to take cold showers and then say, stick it Putin! People apparently are supposed to be happy that their cost of living is going up because it hurts Russia. BS. It’s going up because corporations want to stick it to us.

How Much Are We Prepared To Sacrifice To Help The US Win A Propaganda War Against Putin?

There’s a very important question that we all need to be asking ourselves at this point in history, and that question is as follows: how much are we as a society willing to sacrifice so that the US government can win a propaganda war against Vladimir Putin?

Let me explain.

One severely under-discussed aspect of the latest round of escalations in Silicon Valley censorship which began at the start of the Ukraine war is the fact that it’s an entirely unprecedented order of censorship protocol. While it might look similar to all the other waves of social media purges and new categories of banned content that we’ve been experiencing since it became mainstream doctrine after the 2016 US election that tech platforms need to strictly regulate online speech, the justifications for it have taken a drastic deviation from established patterns.

What sets this new censorship escalation apart from its predecessors is that this time nobody’s pretending that it’s being done in the interests of the people. With the censorship of racists the argument was that they were inciting hate crimes and racial harassment. With the censorship of Alex Jones and QAnon the argument was that they were inciting violence. With the censorship of Covid skeptics the argument was that they were promoting misinformation that could be deadly. Even with the censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story it was argued that there was a need to protect election integrity from disinformation of potentially foreign origin.

With censorship relating to the Ukraine war there is no argument that it’s being done to help the people. There is no case to be made that letting people say wrong things about this war kills Ukrainians, Americans, or anyone else. There is no case to be made that disputing claims about Russian war crimes will damage America’s democratic processes. It’s just, “Well we can’t have people saying wrong things about a war, can we?”

Ask a properly brainwashed liberal why they support the censorship of someone who disputes US narratives about Russian war crimes in Bucha or Mariupol and they’ll probably tell you something like “Well, it’s disinformation!” or “Because it’s propaganda!” or “How much is Putin paying you??” But what they won’t be able to do is articulate exactly what specific harm is being done by such speech in the same way that they could when defending the censorship of Covid skeptics or the factions responsible for last year’s riot in the Capitol building.

The one argument you’ll get, if you really press the issue, is that the United States is in a propaganda war with Russia, and it is in our society’s interests for our media institutions to help the United States win that propaganda war. Cold wars are fought between nuclear powers because hot warfare would risk annihilating both nations, leaving only other forms of war like psychological warfare available. There’s no argument that this new escalation in censorship saves lives or protects elections, but there is an argument that it can help facilitate the long-term cold war agendas of the United States.

Worth a read.

Can't blame the Russians for eliminating the satellites used to guide drones to bomb them. I think China's been practicing blowing up satellites too.

The Duran suggested Finland and Sweden joining NATO actually simplifies Russia's Arctic battle plans because they don't need to accommodate them in case of war. I can't believe they are so stupid to hitch with the sinking west instead of a rising east, but... They are not holding referendum votes with the people but shoving it down their throats.

The censorship has been on steroids. Great conversation this week with Scott Ritter, George Galloway, Chris Hedges, and Jill Stein.

The Lies... and the Eyes...Of Ukraine

The realities of this war, as I expected before arriving two weeks ago, have been slowly found on the faces, in the voices and deep in the penetrating eyes of those affected by it. These are the innocents, mostly, those who have a tale to tell and parse no words in telling it.

The next ninety-six hours would reveal their personal horrors.

After a five hour trip packed together into a cargo van filled with food and medical aid supplies, we arrive in Lviv, Ukraine. Now, I sit alongside my five other passionate colleagues at a long wooden table that is covered modestly and set in preparation for our welcome. We dig in, eating what we all thankfully admit is the finest spaghetti sauce ever served. We are very hungry. Our hosts are glad we’re here.
...
Zelensky has banned all media coverage in Ukraine, save one, and alternative views favouring peace are, as I would find out are a death sentence. War is the only sanctioned opinion allowed. Peace will get you arrested or shot.
...
For Zelensky and Nato their personal treason is allowing this war to be fought right down to the very last Ukrainian.

Despite my current proximity barely a day goes by that I don’t receive videos and pictures of the horrors taking place in the Donbas and the East. My contact info is easily found and since the start of this series, I have received scores of Instagram, Telegram, Tick Toc or Whatsapp messages asking that I share these images with the reader.

But I refuse to look at any of them. Videos and pictures can be doctored and used to sway a reporter’s work in the wrong direction away from objective reporting. This war is now a media-inspired shit show and I will not be a part of it. So, I file these many solicitations away, never looking at a one, for I already know what they contain, horror. I do not need to look… or listen.
...
So, I return to Central Station, Warsaw. While doing a bit of photo editing and sitting on one of the very nearby concrete benches on the grounds in front of the massive soviet Palace of Culture and Science building, my glance comes up from my screen. Directly in front of me is an old man stooped and holding a cane. He is moving directly at me. He appears quite frail and he is now just a few yards away, so close I am afraid he is blind. But he stops, now close enough to speak. “You are a journalist,” he says in perfect, but heavily accented English, not as a question, but strangely as a statement. I nod, not sure how far English will take me. “Will you help me,” he offers and I assume he means a donation and reach for my red day pack. “No, no, no…” he responds, “I have things to tell you.”
...
Abram is a Russian Jew and proudly admits to serving in the Red Army, particularly in Afghanistan. “We did many wrong things there,” he began, “but these Banderists they hate, their hearts, full of hate. Always hate. Many years, only hate!” Stupidly I offered the leading question, “why?.” Abram, who had been looking down while delivering his thoughts straightened in a start, now looking me in the eyes like a father scolding a child, “Because we are Russian!”
...
According to Abram that all changed quickly in 2014, “We became dogs!” he spat. “But you kick a dog once, he runs. You kick a dog again and he looks you in the eyes, asking why” But, he slowed for emphasis, “You kick a dog three times… and he bites.” He talked about the immediate attacks by the AFU after the west overturned the election of Viktor Yanukovych who was himself from Donetsk in Eastern Ukraine. Continuing he said,

“What we want then is independence. Already we were. Not to join Russia. That we wanted this is a lie. They made war from the west on us of the East. Because we speak Russian? We love Russia? Not only, this…”

and here he again glanced up from his thoughts and for emphasis,

“Because the Banderists hate Russia. Because you… I’m sorry.. your country… hates Russia. And we are Russian in our hearts! We do not hate America. We love Ukraine! But you… I’m sorry again… your country, it hates Russia!”
...
Abram is smiling now. “My daughter said you are a journalist. Go to the east as you want. You will know what I said is so.” he says as an ending.“Then, please… tell my story.”

“Thank you…” he adds before turning forever away. But just before he did, I saw his face clearly, and I knew his story was true.

I saw, once more…those eyes.

I will view them now. Those videos. The pictures. I feel an obligation. To Abram, to Leonid, to my Christian friends in Lviv, to Andrew and every refugee I have interviewed and those I have not, alive or dead.
...
And then I see them, staring back at me with pinpoint accuracy, my testimony to the brutal truth of this war. There, in the mirror, staring back at me, I see…

Those Eyes!

I’ve been writing about this return to McCarthyism that we have been seeing since Russia Russia started and hoped to wake people up to it.

It may be worse than McCarthyism, which was defeated by its own excesses. Today’s information war against individuals and media who do not adhere to the Western-government-enforced narrative on Ukraine is part of a long history in the U.S. of officially crushing dissent. With the advances of technology for both surveillance and censorship, we might be in the most chilling atmosphere yet for thought control. Will it too be brought down by its own excesses?

As Consortium News has argued, the U.S. and NATO needed and helped facilitate the invasion of Ukraine to launch its economic war against Russia but also its information war against domestic dissent. Our guests have been targets of censorship and smears in this coordinated assault on freedom of expression: George Galloway, Chris Hedges, Scott Ritter and Jill Stein, co-hosted by Elizabeth Vos and Joe Lauria and produced by Cathy Vogan.

“Seasons” written by Reina del Cid
Candy Apple Red album out April 29

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeGaAiq9WIw]
"Seasons" is a little love song I wrote way back in my college days and have been wanting to put it on a record for a long time. Having grown up in a town (Fargo) that experiences both the harsh realities and joys of the changing seasons, it's strange to now be living in a place where one barely notices whether it's the dead of winter or the end of July. Seasons have always been important to me---they're a way of marking the passage of time, cataloging experiences, and charting the evolution of relationships. This song tries in its own little way to capture how love between two people can change and mean different things throughout different eras and settings.

This session includes all the same players you saw last week with the awesome addition of our friend David Feily on guitar, who adds so much soul to this version of the song. I'm so lucky to play with all of these monster musicians.

It made it sound as if Russo was commenting on Rockefeller’s suggestions to him of a planned 9/11, 11 months before the event. Yet Russo died in 2007?

@janis b

There are two more of the zeitgeist movies/documentaries, and like you I don't agree with all the segments, but I did find them interesting.

Hope you are having a nice Passover and all is well in NZ. We had a drizzle most of Easter day, but it was good for the garden babies, so all is well.

Take care and thanks for coming by!
