It's Time for Guillotines

The joke that was the 2016 election, the Tax Bill, the push to end Net Neutrality, and many other shitty events over the course of our country's sordid history should prove without a shadow of a doubt that democracy and rule of law is dead in our country (Though neither ever existed). It should also be very apparent that Capitalism promotes sociopathic behavior benefiting a small few at the expense of the majority of the world, and as such Capitalism needs to be destroyed and replaced with something else.

What can we do to move forward? How can we turn what looks to be defeat into a win that we all need?

There are two ways forward.

One is gaining momentum as we speak; the worker cooperative movement.
Please watch this video and then afterwards watch every video you can of Jimmy's and especially Richard Wolff's They are the two best speakers of truth in this country!

However, if the 1% continue to move forward with their class war and make the first path for change impossible, then it will be time for guillotines. If so, I have two great songs for those ready to bring back these amazing anti corruption tools.

Trevor Moore - Time For Guillotines

Well it's no secret that the country's in some trouble here
The left is mad, the right's enraged, and the middle's disappeared
The fat cats expect us to bail out them and all their friends
And when they've spent our money they stick out their hands again
It's times like this that each of us need to reach across the aisle
Instead of burning incense we can try to share a smile
Put aside our differences and remember what made us great
All the people arm in arm and in one voice we'll say:

It's time for guillotines, it's time to raise the boards
It's time to sharpen blades, we just can't take this any more
It's nothing personal, we gave your way a try
We're sorry, but you at the top all have to die

I'm sorry Mister President, we need to have your head
And senators and congressmen--we need all of you dead
And all the CEOs of all the banks
And TV pundits too, let's show our thanks
It really pains us, we'll have to kill your wives and children too
It's purely business, we just cannot have them avengin' you
We'll start in the Hamptons, and Beverely Hills, and to Georgetown we go
And we'll burn Connecticut to the ground so that nothing ever grows

It's time for guillotines, it's time to raise the boards
It's time to sharpen blades, we just can't take this any more
Those peaceful protests just were not cutting it
Martin Luther King and Ghandi both can go suck a dick

We can come together, we can do this if we try
Find our common enemy and united both our sides
A lesbian and a NASCAR fan help to hold a lobbyist down
While a priest and an abortion doctor stomp him into the ground
We'll take the Secretary of the Treasury, and the Chairmen of the Fed
And let all three hundred million citizens gangrape them 'till their dead
And when every man, woman and child has finished running trade
We'll rest for a couple hundred years before we'll have to do it again

It's time for guillotines, it's time to raise the boards
It's time to sharpen blades, we just can't take this any more
Those peaceful protests just were not cutting it
Martin Luther King and Ghandi both can go suck a dick
Martin Luther King and Ghandi both can go suck a dick

The Coup - "The Guillotine"

[Intro 2x]
Hey you!
We got your war
We're at the gates
We're at your door

[Hook 4x]
We got the guillotine
We got the guillotine, you better run

[Verse 1]
We want to thank you for flying with us
We know you coulda stayed home, just cried and cussed
May all your guns go off if it's time to bust
May all they tanks have time to rust
They got the armies turning bullets into gold
They got the hookers turning tricks in the cold
And every time the police kicks in the door
An angel gas brake dips in the O
And even if a d-boy flips him a O
It ain't enough to buy shit anymore
Sleep in the doorway, piss on the floor
Look in the sky, wait for missiles to show
It's finna blow cause
They got the TV, we got the truth
They own the judges and we got the proof
We got hella people, they got helicopters
They got the bombs and we got the, we got the

[Hook]

[Bridge: Silk-E]
Don't talk about it
It’s not a show
Be about it
It's 'bout to blow

[Verse 2]
I just spit the dope lines, I don't snort 'em
Tell the boss to call police to escort him
You don't write all them lies, you just quote 'em
Get offline, plug in to this modem
No, you can't out-vote 'em
The rules is still golden
Only jewels we holding is if we guarding our scrotum
If you press your ear to the turf that is stolen
You can hear the sound of limitations exploding
Please sir, may we have another portion?
We're children of the beast that dodged the abortion
Neck placed firm 'tween the floor and the Florsheim
We'll shut your shit down, don't call it extortion
Caution -- we're coming for your head
So call the Feds and get files to shred
Every textbook read said bring you the bread
But guess what we got you instead?

[Hook]

[Outro: Silk-E]
Let's keep it banging like a shotgun
We in a war before we fought one
Now if you're tired of working so they can play
A common enemy, we got one
Now keep it banging like a shotgun
We in a war before we fought one
Now if you're tired of working from day to day
A common enemy, we got one

@ggersh YES! I fully agree. Neoliberalism is apart of the problem too. Neoliberalism is a branch of capitalism like their are different branches of the main three religions.

I'd rather go back to Kennedy era marginal tax rates. 1960's socialites appear to have survived quite comfortably, and added to the common weal.

@Bollox Ref However, if the 1% actively use sanctioned state violence, or force the 99% to follow laws and rules that will harm or kill us in the end then I am ready to fight back in self defense.

Thanks for the post, and the video(!) here's an older one with Gar, long but really, really, worth it:
Richard Wolff and Gar Alperovitz (2014) "Workplace Democracy"

I'm just here because I brought a guillotine Wink

@GreyWolf Can you believe I hadn't heard of Alperovitz before your reply? Thank you. I will watch the video later when I have time.

@BrutallyHonest Sorry for the tongue in cheek topic line, but that's why I like Gar, he doesn't want to just talk about creating a new economy, he wants to, and is, doing it. Just follow this link to a Google search of "the cleveland project gar alperovitz" to see tons of info.

Gar got grants and donations and has built an array of worker-owned co-ops in Cleveland, concentrating on forming partnerships with what he calls anchor institutions, like hospitals and schools, places that can't just pack up and move to China.

Like I said, the video's long, and Gar and Wolff aren't really great entertainers ... Wink

But there are green shoots everywhere, look at "I Plan to Build the 'Most Radical City on the Planet'" Chokwe Antar Lumumba basically wants to do what Gar has done, but even more so. People whined that getting rid of corporations and creating equitable income distribution wasn't really radical, having a Tesla, or solar panels, or whatever, is radical. But like Wolff says, if we build co-ops, where the workers as also the board members, then the workers voices would be the 'corporation's' voice, and the politicians would then respond to the peoples' voice.

So I think carrying signs and demanding that people vote this way or that is pointless and backwards (since politicians only respond to corporations.) Build worker-owned co-ops and become the "corporate" voice. Wolff's got his head on straight and is speaking the truth, and Gar is doing grunt work. But everybody is, understandably, too busy going to, or trying to get, a corporate job (which will make corporations wealthier and lead to more lobbying to destroy worker protections ...) So it goes.

Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.

@Pricknick I have only done one decapitation in my life. A very preemie kitten. With a kitchen knife. Cut my own fingertips off more often!

Off-topic, I discovered I had two days to apply for a Medicare plan for March 2018. Wow, they vary state to state in cost. Done. F, G or H. Direct credit union withdrawal of funds. Works for auto
and house insurance. Merry Christmas season. A temp fall overnight, snow next week? Gale warnings overnight on the Great Lakes.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

the sad thing is that what Richard Wolff explained, really needed to be explained. Now I really need to learn how Germany has tried to bring more democracy and worker's power into the equation. The only drawback is, when you try to compare and point out the differences (as Wolff did in his video citing France and Spain), you hurt so many Americans' feelings. If they accept at all the line of thoughts, they also accept their own capitalistic system's lack of democracy and are ashamed of it. Then they deny it or don't want to talk to you anymore. I also like the simple way Wolff explained the media's private ownership being part of promoting the oppression of democracy.

If you know a bit about work on a cruise ship, you know this. I heard a 27 year old, who had worked on the cruise ships to pay for his/her college tuition, saying he/she thinks it's a good thing to work on a cruise ship, because it boosts you work ethics and work discipline. I was wondering why he/she thought that way.... I can't forget what I heard and it bothers me really quite a bit.

@dfarrah
the way I understood the comment was that he/she knew all the hardship and exploitative work conditions on the ship, but nevertheless 'embraced' it, just repeating probably what some big shots (who never worked on low wage hospitality jobs) were saying like it's great to work hard and accept the exploitation, because it's 'good for your work ethics and morals'. (an attitude which I consider utmost cynical) Most people can't make it longer than max 2 years on the ship. Then they are so burned out, they leave. And they didn't get rich, they just could save themselves the cost for rent.

sit back with a beer on a Sunday and watch 535 slices from a guillotine. One right after the other... well maybe 30 seconds in between for commercials.
