Donald Trump Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize

1984x_1.png

"President Donald Trump, in his first address to the United Nations, derided Kim Jong Un, North Korea’s leader, as a “rocket man” on Tuesday as the president warned that he may be forced to "totally destroy" the rogue nation.

"If the righteous many do not confront the wicked few, then evil will triumph," Trump said, as he detailed the horrors of what he called the "depraved" North Korean regime.

"Rocket man is on a suicide mission," he said, using a nickname for Kim that refers to the North Korean leader's recent missile tests.

"The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea."

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trump-un-north-korean-leade...

"In a press conference after the summit, Trump referred to the implications of his militaristic policy toward North Korea with the casualness of an unabashed sociopath. “This is really an honor for me to be doing this because, I think, you know, potentially, you could have lost, you know, 30, 40, 50 million people,” he said."

Nobel Peace Prize Announcement:

"Donald Trump, Current Dictator of the United States Empire, by reaching a nebulous agreement with his new Dictator friend, North Korean president Kim Jong-un, is hereby awarded the Nobel Peace prize for the year 2018. Mr. Trump single handedly executed a diplomatic miracle saving the world from possible nuclear annihilation, and especially the country of North Korea and the 25 million North Korean citizens, from Mr. Trump himself. By saving North Korea and the world from himself (relative to North Korea, maybe, if you're stupid), Mr. Trump has advanced the cause of peace on Planet Earth."

Anyone still want to defend or credit this complete asshole for anything?

(Disclaimer: this essay in no way endorses or excuses the crimes of the last democratic president and his political party.)

@mimi After all, war criminal Obama got a "Peace" prize.
But ya, just trying to point out the absurdity of crediting Trump with peace.

@mimi Dynamite is NOT a tool to make peace, and Nobel realized that very clearly - the whole point of the Nobel Prize is that he was trying to atone. He deserves credit, not cynicism. The Nobel Prize has been given to the wrong person on numerous occasions (even Obama himself thought his award was unexpected and weird, and what little I heard of his acceptance speech was uncharacteristically awkward), but that's not enough to invalidate it; cynicism toward the entire institution is not the solution.

And his atonement makes a hell of a lot more sense than that of Sarah Winchester.....

@thanatokephaloides I knew it in its halcyon days, and I grew up with the Winchester Mystery House - was never a 'mystery' to me!

And if you're there, be sure to also visit the astounding Tech Museum of Innovation (HELLOOOO, wacky ball machine!), the strange and mystical Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, and of course, our fine San Jose Airport, which last time I was there, is staffed and run all the way from baggage claim to car rental by Sikhs, who will serve you with a big smile, an even bigger beard, a turban, and a dagger! Safe travels! Biggrin

I can read Nobel's bio and what you say is common knowledge. Usually I am very fair. And usually I am in a bad mood. And very rarely am I serious. Especially in reaction to Big Al I am totally non-serious. And that is of course very serious.

You can have all the Nobel Prices you want and do good things with it.
Peace with the noble men.

No offense, do we know each other?

Wanna know why I am tense and in a bad mood?

Because dear Mr. Misbehaver attacks Angelino and gets a high of causing Germans to hate him.

@jonathan The non-military uses for dynamite may well have been what Nobel had in mind when he invented it, but you can be sure it was the military uses consuming his thoughts when he built his foundation.

TNT has thousand of useful, peaceful applications. Why is that Liberals take such pride in their technological illiteracy?

There's no technological illiteracy here. Nobel didn't invent TNT. He invented dynamite, one of TNT's technological predecessors. From the Wikipedia article on Dynamite:

TNT is most commonly assumed to be the same as (or confused for) Dynamite, largely due to the ubiquity of both explosives during the 20th century and the civilian practice of preparing Dynamite charges in 8x1" "sticks" wrapped in red waxed paper and shaped to fit the cylindrical boreholes drilled in the rock face. This incorrect connection between TNT and Dynamite was enhanced by Bugs Bunny cartoons where animators started labelling any kind of cartoon bomb (ranging from sticks of Dynamite to kegs of black powder) as "TNT" because the acronym was shorter, more memorable and didn't require literacy to recognize "TNT" meant "bomb" (similar to the use of XXX markings on whiskey bottles and barrels in cartoons). This eventually led to the general perception that TNT and Dynamite were one and the same.

In actuality, aside from both being high explosives, TNT and Dynamite have very little in common: TNT is a 2nd generation castable explosive adopted by the military a full sixty years after Dynamite, which is a 1st generation phlegmatized explosive primarily intended for civilian earthmoving. TNT has never been popular or widespread in civilian earthmoving, as it is considerably more expensive and less powerful by weight than Dynamite, as well as being slower to mix and pack into cylindrical boreholes; for its part, Dynamite has never been popular in warfare because it degenerates quickly under severe conditions and can be detonated by either fire or a wayward bullet.

Alfred Nobel had little or nothing to "atone" for, as it turned out. Dynamite is poor material for military ordnance use, and the number of lives lost to Dynamite between its invention in 1867 and the recognition of TNT's explosive properties in 1891 are doubtless far outnumbered by the lives saved by the replacement of field application of straight nitroglycerin by Dynamite.

TNT and Dynamite are different. TNT is just easier to type and most do not know the difference. And yes, both have hundreds of peaceful uses.

you are absolutely correct TNT and Dynamite are different. TNT is just easier to type and most do not know the difference. And yes, both have hundreds of peaceful uses.

Thank you!

And most of the lives saved by the invention of Dynamite were saved by its elimination of nitroglycerine handling in the field. Nitroglycerine is nasty stuff sitting in a bottle by itself, and Alfred Nobel was the one who first figured out that the key was to give it a little (mostly inert) company! Wink

@The Liberal Moonbat peace prize part of the institution was invalidated long ago, at least with Kissinger. There's no way to take it seriously now. It's irrelevant now, the institution proved what side it's on by selecting Obama and not rescinding the award.

as you suggest. His acceptance speech saying war led to peace and he was accelerating the Afghan conflict as a result was too much for me. I saw then we were had.

The fact that he bailed out banks and not homeowners and pushed through a republican health insurance plan without a public option was illuminating too.

Trump orders creation of U.S. force to dominate space
Makini Brice and Steve Holland

(Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said he was ordering the establishment of a sixth branch of the military to clear the way for American dominance of space.

"It is not enough to merely have an American presence in space. We must have American dominance in space," Trump said before a meeting of his National Space Council.

"We are going to have the Air Force and we're going to have the 'Space Force.' Separate but equal. It is going to be something. So important," he said later.

The United States is a member of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which bars the stationing of weapons of mass destruction in space and only allows for the use of the moon and other celestial bodies for peaceful purposes.

"Donald Trump has bragged about how Saudi Arabia is a “big purchaser” of American armaments as peace groups assert that the weapons the US is selling to the kingdom are being used to kill thousands of innocent people in Yemen.

“A lot of people are at work” because of Saudi Arabia’s business, Mr Trump said while welcoming Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to the White House, adding that the kingdom has finalised $12.5bn in purchases of planes, missiles and frigates from US companies.

“I would really have to say the relationship was to put it mildly the relationship was very very strained during the Obama administration, and the relationship now is probably as good as it’s really ever been, and think will probably only get better,” Mr Trump said."

And:

U.S.-made military equipment.

"We have some wonderful meetings going on over the last two days," Trump said to reporters before turning toward Sheikh Tamim. "We are friends. We've been now for a long time indirectly, haven't we? And our relationship is extremely good. We have some very serious discussions right now going on. And one of the things that we will discuss is the purchase of lots of beautiful military equipment because nobody makes it like the United States. And for us that means jobs and, frankly, great security back here, which we want."
