Clintonists Tell Leftists to Fall in Line Behind Kamala Harris

"Since speculation arose that Sen. Kamala Harris is preparing to run for president, Hillary Clinton’s supporters have defended her using a strategy that was developed during the 2016 Democratic primaries against Sen. Bernie Sanders. This strategy revolves around the Bernie Bros narrative, which propagates the myth that Sanders supporters are sexist, racist white males. The fact that many of progressives’ criticisms, policies and grassroots efforts have been led and founded by women and people of color are, of course, ignored." [more]

The Clinton liberals have anointed black Hillary this primary season just like they anointed white Hillary in 2016. She checks all the boxes: black, female, Clintonista, loved by Wall Street and the big money funders.

Twitter is attacking Tulsi and Berniebros as fast as their gold-laden fingers can keyboard, and the media is falling in line.

. . . has falling in line ever led to anything good? I don't mean just a single instant. All instances where you were instructed to fall in line. How did the outcomes go? Do the percentages.

Then look more broadly: When did falling in line ever lead to anything good for society?

So yes, I want an all-woman ticket, and at least one a woman of color. But in the end, it’ll be hard for us liberal activists to lose this primary, given the options on the table.

With that in mind, it’s easier to advocate FOR your candidate than shit on the others. Unless we’re talking about Tulsi Gabbard, who is more focused on auditioning for Fox News Democrat.

What the numbers above tell me is that Harris made a nice impression in her rollout, people are already forgetting Beto, and fewer people are looking for an alternative than last time.

@snoopydawg Yah, never realized the scandal around Kos and TOP when I first joined in 2005 (I think it was) about the pay-to-play scheme. Kos monetized members in similar ways as Facebook monetized its members. Many aspects about the site now make sense if one views TOP as a kind of profit center.

Pink pussyhats: The reason feminists are ditching them

But this time when marchers take to the streets in cities from Lansing to Las Vegas, there could be fewer pink pussyhats in the crowds.

The reason: The sentiment that the pink pussyhat excludes and is offensive to transgender women and gender nonbinary people who don't have typical female genitalia and to women of color because their genitals are more likely to be brown than pink.

"I personally won’t wear one because if it hurts even a few people's feelings, then I don't feel like it’s unifying," said Phoebe Hopps, founder and president of Women's March Michigan and organizer of anniversary marches Jan. 21 in Lansing and Marquette.

Prepare for egregious mansplaining:

Just to clear it up for you: ALL healthy vaginas are pink -- a very bright pink in fact. By contrast, FEW vulvas are actually pink. The distal ridges (i.e., most visible part) of the labia minora of even Caucasian women tend much more towards reddish brown than pink; some are rather purplish. (And of course, they actually change color under different conditions -- such as sexual arousal and pregnancy.)

If folks want to argue about whether the "pussy" is exclusively the inside or the outside, I guess they're free to do that -- the word has been a bit anachronistic in the age of the brazilian wax, but my efforts to popularize "naked mole rat" as a replacement have been in vain.

What next? Will they demand that streaming services banish the movie Untamed Heart, in which Christian Slater's character offers Marisa Tomei's character this endearment, at the close of telephone call: "Love and kisses on all your pink parts," given that, with her Mediterranean ancestry, the only easily kissable pink parts Marisa Tomei likely has are ones that she has painted that color?

I'm totally behind the idea that bandaids should be made in different hues, and that little doll babies should be made in various shades, and that the pinkish-peachy crayon in the Crayola box shouldn't be labeled "flesh" (Well, that was always icky anyway, but I could see them having a crayon called "pink skin", and one called "olive skin", and so on), and that algorithms that automatically enhance photos of humans should work for africans as well as for scandinavians.

Broadly employed cultural artifacts that presume the non-existence of anyone not of the majority (or eventually, plurality) class in any broad category are a real affront to all the people not in that class, an affront that has real psychological consequences, especially for children, who of course become adults eventually, unless of course they die of dehydration in American concentration camps, or in a pink mist induced by an American drone.

But what is even more bizarre, and probably more damaging overall, is to insist on various cultural accommodations that pretend that the majority class is the one that doesn't exist. How is anyone supposed to think straight, when the language itself is not allowed to represent anything approximating reality? It's pure 1984. "Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia! Womanhood has never been associated with vaginas!"

Will the same people start plasto-shaming those transwomen whose apparently false feminine consciousness motivates them to undergo surgery so as to create simulacra of female genitalia? Or is this going to be another one of those deals where epistemology is rendered, by dogma, relativistic with respect to inclusion or exclusion from Specially Endowed Classes of H. Sapiens? "She gets to believe that female genitalia are fundamental to her identity (because she was born without them), but she is NOT allowed to believe that female genitalia are important to her identity (because she was born with them), and he is allowed to believe that female genitalia are fundamental to identity because he was born with them, but he is not allowed to believe female genitalia are fundamental to identity, because he was born without them!"

What the fuck are we supposed to do about the 90% (random made-up statistic) of all the women in the world whose identity is inextricably linked to the reproductive anatomy with which they were born? Just dismiss their consciousness because it cannot be shared by the 9% (random made-up statistic) of women who, though born with female reproductive anatomy either did not have the opportunity, or did not have the inclination, or attempted but failed to employ all of its physiological functions; nor shared by the 1% (random made-up statistic) of women who were not born with female reproductive anatomy at all?

@dkmich As far as I can gather, today's "feminism" means you have to support all women, all of the time. If you don't, you're automatically a misogynist.

Which strikes me as incredibly ironic, given that feminism was supposed to have been about (among other things) a woman's right to individual agency, independence, and decision-making. Yet somehow, when I exercise my individual agency to reject female candidates whom I feel do not represent my, or others', best interests, I'm betraying my gender.

(This gets funnier, in a pathetic way, when you consider the blatant hypocrisy among this particular crowd of "feminists," as snoopydawg has given many examples of. When I chose to support Jill Stein over HER, that was also apparently misogynistic because I'm only allowed to support the "correct" woman).

So, instead of "touchy-feely," I see it as elitist and judgmental. But I do think we both agree that it's not doing women any favors.

there's a powerful robot in the form of a large smiling country bumpkin named "Michael" who keeps people in line. The young hero who has wandered into this society somehow short circuits him (well that's how I remember it) and the man who runs this place says to an assistant "get another Michael from the warehouse...this time make sure the engineering department wipes that smile off his face".

well, similarly, it's "get another Hillary....time time make her black".

...Moulitsas implemented in 2014-2015; right up to, and including, Denise Oliver Velez putting all the bullshit down in a few diaries. In fact, I'll go as far as to say, she almost directly copied some of the content from her now-famous, initial "Hillary" piece, about 5 years ago.

So, they get an "F" for creativity. Same shit, different day. Rinse. Repeat. Truly pathetic.

And, truth be told, so far, Harris has significant problems, in terms of her political history; but, I don't feel nearly as bad about her as I felt about Clinton, around the same time, 5 years ago.

Unfortunately, the upcoming 2020 primary season has California scheduled as one of the "early" (scheduled primary) states. The upside here is that a LOT can happen between now and then.

The overall sentiment from me is that DKos' early bullshit, right now, is a virtual rubber stamp of their "captured" behavior in the last Presidential election cycle. And, upthread, all comments about DKos regarding their real agenda--which is to capitalize on their income opportunities from the Party's status quo via email/mail list sales, and substantial portions of Party donor revenues that make their way, at first, directly through Moulitsas' pockets, so he gets his tithe--are extremely accurate, in this regard.

So, how about a campaign--one the circumvents DKos, entirely--to insure that intended recipients of said campaign funds, as well as all of those truly Progressive candidates that aren't even supported by that neoliberal excuse for a CLOSED TENT, a/k/a Daily Kos, receive ALL the money to which they're supposedly entitled/receiving, bypassing the right-of-Democratic-center donation superhighway known as DKos, altogether?

I am all for it. Circumventing. Bypassing. Let 'em do what they can't help doing - alone. No need to follow or fall in line.

Denise I got. It was just some little word she said and it was not noticed by many as a real mean and disgusting statement: She said Joe's EBs are "Dreck". I would say that was real a "Scheiß"-comment (auf gut Deutsch) by her and showed her true colors and blinders. That was the trigger for me to walk away from there. I actually started reading there in 2004. I found Dailykos because I needed something where at least some people talked about the Iraq war in what seemed in "earnest, critical and fact-based honest terms". I had my son over in Iraq in 2003 and couldn't believe why a war was directed against Iraq. So, I was shocked and awed to see my son in the middle of shock and awe on TV. Took me long to understand that even that anti-Iraq war attitude on dailykos was not consistent.

I know I have the most difficulties to get sarcasm lingo whenever it is used. I feel insecure then and doubt my own inner (silent) "arguments". Today I sometimes can't read an essay to the end, especially when the content is more or less repetitive. I guess it's just being sick and tired of all of it.

I always appreciate clear language, more boring, but easier to understand (for me).
So, thanks for the way you express yourself.
Good (the truth is never boring, so don't get me wrong)

@mimi Thanks, Mimi! I appreciate the fact that you appreciate my somewhat simplistic approach, herein. But, truth be told, lots of folks here get it, upthread. And, at the end of the day, U.S. politics is almost entirely about power and/or money; and, every once in a blue moon, some lonely, well-meaning soul actually tries to honestly help out their fellow citizens, or otherwise benefit the planet. So, everything boils down quite primitively, by definition. Sadly, there's not too much to "overthink" on the subject of U.S. political news, these days; even though some might think or mislead us otherwise. Just follow the money, etc.

Every one who says something bad about the women candidates are strongly reprimanded and told to knock off the sexist comments. Except for when they say something about Tulsi. This double standard is very obvious. Why? Because she talked with Trump after the election and she visited Assad to see what was really happening there. Oh no! Can't do that. But it's okay for Nancy and Chuckles to say that they look forward to working with Trump. Yup. Double standards.

One of my friends still maintains that HER was the victim of a "lot of misogyny" but as of yet I have heard no real details on just what that misogyny really was except for the FACT that HER was a shitty candidate and no where near "progressive" or whatever we want to call it and that most accusations against HER by said progressives were actually all TRUE. Kamala Harris, Opportunist to the Core: Launches Prez Bid on MLK Day, Since She Has to Remind People She’s Black After Criminalizing Truancy, Keeping CA Prison Rolls Up to Provide Cheap Labor; Sends Tone-Deaf, Narcissistic Campaign E-mail.

Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign has barely made its official start, and she’s continuing to show her unfitness for the job. Martin Luther King would be rolling in his grave if he were to learn that a former big city and then state prosecutor, with no known history of protesting but an anti-minorities rap sheet that includes criminalizing truancy, enthusiastically prosecuting drug-related activity, and pushed to keep nonviolent “second-strike” convicts in prison to assure California a continued supply of cheap labor, was misusing his name to try to burnish her sorry record.

This is what brings out DoV's claws. Anyone saying that she let Mnunckin's bank off after receiving a donation will be dawg piled on.

Readers may recall that last week, we addressed one Harris Big Lie about her record, that she was a big defender of abused homeowners by virtue of having gotten a less terrible deal than 48 other states in the 2012 National Mortgage Settlement, which we’ve regularly described as a “get out of liability almost free card” for the big mortgage servicers. Her lack of a commitment to homeowners, and her pliancy to big money interests, was confirmed by her failure to investigate One West Bank, ignoring a 2013 memo from attorneys in her office flagging the appearance of “widespread misconduct.” Her complacency was rewarded via One West’s former CEO, Steve Mnuchin, making Harris the recipient of his lone donation to a Democratic party Senate candidate.

Thanks for the link to the article. I'll bookmark it just in case I need to refer to it. Smile

Here's her declaration email.

Throughout her career, Kamala has been a fearless advocate for the voiceless and vulnerable and a vocal and determined fighter on behalf of all people.

As U.S. Senator, Kamala introduced or co-sponsored legislation to provide sweeping tax cuts for the middle class, address the high cost of rent, raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, make higher education tuition-free for the vast majority of Americans, reform the cash bail system, protect the legal rights of refugees and immigrants, and expand access to affordable, quality health care with Medicare for All.

Kamala has been a key voice in the fight to hold the Trump administration accountable, asking the tough questions on behalf of the American people. She serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Select Committee On Intelligence, and the Committee On Budget.

As California’s Attorney General, Kamala prosecuted transnational gangs that exploited women and children and trafficked in guns and drugs. She led comprehensive studies and investigations into the impacts of transnational criminal organizations and human trafficking.

Kamala achieved landmark results for middle-class Californians, by fighting the Wall Street banks and winning $20 billion for homeowners who were facing foreclosure during the Great Recession. She helped thousands of families stay in their homes and passed one of the nation’s strongest anti-foreclosure laws.

Kamala aggressively defended the rights of consumers, winning major settlements holding big corporations accountable and forging innovative agreements with the technology industry to protect the privacy of Californians and crack down against online crime. She successfully sued predatory for-profit colleges that scammed students and veterans, prosecuted big polluters, and defended the Affordable Care Act from partisan attacks.

Kamala has been at the forefront of major civil rights battles as well. She was proud to lead the team that helped bring down California’s Proposition 8 at the U.S. Supreme Court and to fight for marriage equality nationwide.

“ANY FIGHT – ANY GOOD FIGHT – IS BORN OUT OF OPTIMISM.”
KAMALA HARRIS

When the U.S. Supreme Court took up important cases on women’s health, Kamala fought to require for-profit companies to provide their employees with health insurance that covers contraceptives and protect patients’ access to reproductive health clinics. As Attorney General, she sponsored legislation to ensure that crisis pregnancy centers provide women medically accurate information about the full range of reproductive services.

Kamala has worked intensively to protect children and students. She established California’s Bureau of Children’s Justice and fought to reduce elementary school truancy so that every child can exercise his or her right to an education. As Attorney General, Harris successfully sued predatory for-profit colleges that scammed students and veterans.

Lots of tuff love during her career ehh? She seems to have held banks accountable as well as Obama did.

I just tell people things that nobody's ever bothered to tell them before. Often, just odd little tidbits, like the fact that the Boston Tea Party was in response to a new policy that was going to lower the price of tea in the American colonies. They choose to disbelieve me at their epistemological peril.

Did you know that Canada won the war of 1812? It's true, just ask any Canadian. I have a trophy on my shelf, given to me one Christmas by a thoughtful Canadian friend. It was some sort of shooting sports trophy that he'd acquired in an entire box full of trophies that he bought at an auction. He'd had a new nameplate made for it, which reads, "Battle of Chateauguay, 1813. Second Place." I treasure it.

though by that point almost anything was going to piss 'em off - the tensions had been building up for too long. The price was to be lowered BUT the tea tax remained in effect. Parliament thought it was a deal the Colonists couldn't resist - and they were wrong.

As to Canada winning the War of 1812 - true, in a sense. They did repel the invading US'ns forcefully (second or third attempt since 1775, IIRC). But the Brits had the final say, and they just wanted the sideshow to end so they could concentrate on smashing Napoleon - so they wrote up a status-quo peace treaty and called it good. It was only due to the slowness of communications in 1815 that there even was another battle - which, naturally, is the only one most American even know about (New Orleans).

Back then, I was "lurking" on Reddit (because I'd been told that it was the place to go to have one's finger on the zeitgeist), and had come to trust whatever came down the front page - so I saw an article from some Canadian think-tank by some accomplished anti-nuclear activist predicting the worst, and I made one of the most humiliating judgment calls of my life: I sent it to EVERYONE on my mailing list at the time, even people who I wasn't on good terms with.

I've lived my whole life on the periphery of the scientific community, so I never knew, before then, that activists didn't always know what they were talking about since, before then, I'd always seen it aligned with the science. People who knew more about engineering than I do set the record straight, and...well, like I said, that was the day I learned that "blue-team activist =/= reliable source".
