I Don't Get It

The other day an acquaintance posted a Trump rant on FB that began with the words "I don't get it."

Ever since grade school, those four words have been interchangeble with a desire to understand. It's a student's distress call that they aren't keeping up with the rest of the class.

Naively, I figured this was how she had intended to use the phrase. I did not cross my mind that I could know someone who would proudly announce their ignorance, followed by riducule towards anyone who makes such an effort.

"I’m not trying to understand racism and hate."

When I noted that she could be the first to start a conversation to perhaps find some common ground she saw it as me putting the onus on her. Then she deflected to the two parties and professional politicians.

That deflection was such a cop out. And this is after I gave my assessment that the two parties have teamed up against the populace to sell our country down the river.

I **do** believe the onus is on her, at least in her world.

I think this is the terminal symptom of TDS–they prefer to villify their neighbors, and the easiest way to do that is to ascribe the personal traits to DJT to all of the people who voted for him. Ask a liberal, they will tell you all Trump voters are scumbag rapists, racists, liars and cheats.

It's easier to paint all 80 million supporters with the same broad brush than it is to understand what led to their POV.

And no, I don't get it.

IDK if I could be called a "liberal" or not. I did not vote for the present administration, and I do not respect the current president. I grant you he has some good ideas. I have good ideas, as do you and many others. The difference is that you, me, and others are not trying to ram our notions down other people's throats by bullying and namecalling. I do respect the right of fellow citizens to vote as they choose, and I hope they do the same for me.

I also doubt you will find very many of the offended PMC on this forum.

I am a big believer in addressing complaints to the people who did do the crime, say the rude thing, or disrespect me. I consider it part of being a grownup not to expect innocent bystanders to feel my righteous outrage. I might not like someone's personal style, way of speaking or personal habits, but that does not mean they did anything to me nor is it necessarily "an example" of whatever trait I hate the most this month.

My personal view, no reflection intended on anyone else, is that chaos, confusion and cruelty are no way to govern a school district, let alone an entire giant country.

Also my personal view, I think the far left needs to figure what country they are living in. Hint, you see that big blue blob on the map between NYC and London. It is called the Atlantic Ocean and it is 3,000 miles wide. It "narrows" to about 1000mi.and change in between the bulges of South America and Africa. North America is not Eurasia and you, Mr. or Ms. committed radical, are not living in the city in Mittle Europe where your grandparents came from. I think the far right needs to grow up already. Sure, I can understand their pain and frustration, but I didn't cause it.

@Nastarana I'm sorry for having used the word "liberal" if you feel it applies to you. The unsaid part of this essay was that I had announced to this individual ahead of time that I've been terribly chagrined by people who insincerely said they "wish they understood" something when what they really wished for was to have the other person adopt their beliefs.

“He may not have gotten the words out but the thoughts were great.”

@bondibox bondibox. A way of sucking a person into a one-sided lecture. Not a conversation.
How can "lefties" keep on with their TDS when they capitulate over and over?
Ex: reversing the government shut down. They won the midterms, immediately afterwards, capitulated.
One of my friends is head of the Democratic Party and another is head of the Republican Party in this county.
I totally understand hate, racism, war, peace, PACs, and what the 1% is doing to the 99%.

....that are endemic in the US, and the frustration and annoyance that comes when discussing it...

I do wish that when anyone mentions "the Far Left" or the "Lefties" in reference to political chaos in the US — I wish they would name these "Far Left" people or groups.

I've been looking for signs of the organized Left for some time. I'd like to know where the 'Leftie' public gathers in the US. I have doubts that they have survived the onslaught of US political brainwashing and gaslighting during the past decade.

I am particularly aware, for example, that the definitions of the political words that we use, can suddenly take on a different or opposite meaning. (Words like liberal or fascist, etc.) This is a common gov-media technique that is used to sew public confusion and derail political discussions. However, I do notice that many Americans have learned to cope with this and other abusive forms of news-media misinformation and mis-direction.

Examples: Recent political terms that have changed into their opposite meaning?

The terms "fascist/fascism" and "liberal/liberalism" have undergone significant shifts in meaning, with some contemporary uses appearing opposite to their original definitions. The term "liberal" once described classical liberalism, emphasizing individual liberty and limited government, but in modern U.S. politics, it often refers to social liberalism or progressive policies favoring government intervention in social and economic issues—leading conservatives to give the word a negative connotation, prompting many to adopt the term "progressive" instead. Similarly, "fascism," originally denoting a far-right authoritarian ideology, is sometimes used colloquially to describe extreme left-wing policies, despite historical inaccuracy, reflecting a divergence between academic and popular usage.
Additionally, the word "woke," which originally meant being aware of social injustice, particularly racial inequality, has been co-opted in political discourse to criticize progressive stances, often used pejoratively by opponents of such views, effectively inverting its founding purpose. Another example is "political correctness," which began as a neutral term for inclusive and respectful language but is now frequently used derogatorily to criticize perceived over-sensitivity or ideological conformity.

When the Federal Government's sabotage and suppression of the news, and its distortion of historical facts are coupled with the People's growing awareness of the abusive and criminal US Foreign policies that are forced upon other nations — the trust between the people and their government can easily be broken. This was recently amplified by revelations about the deranged and immoral financial support the US provides to pay for genocides and for deadly US proxy wars. Clearly, many USians appear increasingly stressed and disoriented. This horror can be felt in the general economy, as well, reminding us there will be consequences. The catastrophic collapse of intellectual honesty in the US, and the trampling of US morality is obvious to the entire world.

I believe most USians are in complete denial about how far the US has fallen in the esteem of the World. Or, perhaps they do not care. Most are not yet aware how much their government's sins and betrayals are going to cost them. There's little that they can do about it, in any event. The American People have not yet taken control of their fate.

A few years ago, the Pew Research Center determined that there were eight different political groups that voted in the United States. The eight "parties" have distinct concern, policies, and beliefs. If you are interested, there is a 16-question Quiz you can take to see which group you fit into. (The is no 'Far Left' among the groups.) I took the Quiz and I was placed in the group called "Outside Left." For a 5-minute quiz, the results were very rich and detailed. Yet I felt something big was missing from the summary. The Quiz was developed and tested during the first year of the Biden administration.

I would venture to say that between the first year of Biden's first term, and the first year of Trump's second term — something profound happened to the psyche of the US population. USians experienced a collective SHOCK that broke them. It broke their security. It broke their strength. It broke their trust. And it broke their ability to project their reality upon the world. I do not believe USians are going to find their way home again. They are never again going to see United States the way they remember it. Indeed, the People must experience a period of psychological distance from the legacy of the United States, if they are ever to form a nation that is worth living in.

You can take this Pew Poll Quiz, If you wish.

Where do you fit in the US political typology?

I also ended in the outside-left category.
HMM, I disagree with some of the conclusions
in the summary though.

There is compelling evidence for eight different groups However, as I said, something big seems too be missing, The authors of the Quiz had not yet experienced having a completely incompetent President foisted off on the American People, along with his subversive Neocon handlers.

The damage would be done in the future — during the three years that followed the publication of the Quiz.

Biden's Presidency was another Neocon Hoax.

Under empty-headed Biden, the corrupt tax cuts for the Billionaires would be continued. Trump's ignorant, anti-China policies and Pivot-to-the-Pacific war mongering — would be continued by brain-dead Biden. These deranged Neocon policies, along with the Russian Proxy War — run by Biden's Neocon handlers and State Department — would deeply damaged the future of the United States. (We are experiencing this now.)

Biden was The Fool on the Hill who auto-penned policies that impoverished millions of Americans through the continuing lack of domestic support and the continuing lack of public infrastructure. The unhinged Fool on the Hill killed and displaced millions of people.

We are already paying a steep price for the Biden/Neocon Hoax. It worsened the political fate of the US and gave us Trump's second term..

Usians are not going to vote themselves out of the Neocon Coup.
