Open Thread - 02-24-23 - When is Enough Going to be Enough

The divisions in this country are staggering.
Let us count the ways.
- War
- Politics
- Race
- Wokism
- Pandemic
- Immigration
- Religion
- Gender
- The Economy
- Geography
- And others I'm surely forgetting
The divisions are tearing society apart at the seams. Long term friendships are ending. Families are being broken. Hatred is the new normal. We're on the brink of world war.
Is it learned behavior? Or is it innate to the human condition?
Who benefits from the division?
When is enough going to be enough?
I recently found this quote somewhere on the web, I don't exactly remember where, but it caught my attention and I copied it and saved it:
"Optimism is the only way to win. Despair is aid to the enemy. Resistance is essential, not futile".
We must work together or we are finished. As a society, as a country, as a species.

Well, it's a start, I guess. At the least it may get the word out to more people.
But where are all the democrats? Don't they care?

U.S. Legislators Introduce Bill That Would Prohibit Creation Of An American CBDC
The bill would effectively put an end to the debate over the creation of a Federal Reserve-issued CBDC.
U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer (R-MN) has introduced a bill that would prohibit the Federal Reserve from issuing a CBDC directly to anyone.
The bill, titled the “CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act” details that “Except as specifically authorized under this Act, a Federal Reserve bank may not offer products or services directly to an individual, or maintain an account on behalf of an individual, or issue a central bank digital currency directly to an individual.” It goes on to further detail specifically that “The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Open Market Committee may not use any central bank digital currency to implement monetary policy."
Rep. Emmer explained in his tweet announcing the bill that “Any digital version of the dollar must uphold our American values of privacy, individual sovereignty, and free market competitiveness. Anything less opens the door to the development of a dangerous surveillance tool.”

you have to divide by something, division by zero
gets you into endless trouble. Don't even try.

Hi all,
Hey JtC,
Hope it's all good as can be out there! The message masters have certainly got the 'divide and conquer' game figured out, and fairly well played for it to last this long. Quite the disappointment, though predictable as they took the education, civics, and how to critically use your mind parts out of school.

I am not a cat person, a dog would have taken the pill
if it was given by a person the dog loves, right?
All is not well. But who cares?

We adopted a kitten
once, and he developed Addison's disease at the age of 6 months. This failure of the adrenal glands is really rare in cats, as it turns out, and they usually just die on the spot. We got him to the vet just in time, got him diagnosed, and the vet gave us a course of treatment for the critter- consisting of giving him two pills a day (breakfast/dinner) to regulate his sodium/potassium levels and keep him going, at least for a little while.
He lived to the ripe old age of 13, with us pilling him twice a day. Needless to day, we got pretty good at it. We would demonstrate it as a party trick sometimes. He was a very cool and mellow cat, of course. No adrenals, so no startle response: a cat that *never* freaked out for no apparent reason. He's been gone for decades, and I still miss him.
Our dogs, on the other hand, are no fun at all. You give them a pill, and they just take it. Done! Oh, maybe they like a little schmear of peanut butter on it, but that's just because we are big softies...
Twice bitten, permanently shy.
I used to...
stick the pill in a piece of hotdog, worked like a charm every time. I raised three rottweilers, they'd eat anything.
Rottweilers? They est anything?
I am glad they didn't eat you.
I would love to have a dog. But as everything is complicated in Germania nowadayx, I guess I won't get one.
https://www.euronews.com/live
Jaska will go along with that for a while...
and then she refuses the hot dog, or whatever treat we are using for cover up. The only things that work for longer than about two days are beneful dog food and friskies wet cat food. That cat food stinks, so I think it covers up the evil pill smell!

Oh I beg to differ here
My 2nd beagle got Cushing disease and after finally getting it to a point where it’s easily manageable she kept crashing and went into Addison disease and that’s where the fun started. She needed 2 different types of steroid pills and a few others and I was able to keep her pretty stable with the occasional crashes and frantic trips to the vet. Add a few more pills to the mix and after a few years it was hard getting her to take them. She wised up to me hiding it her favorite food and she would eat the food and spit out the pills. Now beagles eat anything…anything. At the end I was forced to stop the hiding them in her food and moved on to just shoving them down her throat. The ordeal went on for 7 years and she lived to 13 too. My vet never thought she would last that long, but attributed it to how well I was able to manage her and her drugs. She died from something else so there’s that.
It’s amazing what lengths humans will go through to take care of their furry friends. Says something about the bonds we make between the species I think.
As for upcoming threats…moonbat posted a video on the upcoming vote at the WHO where Biden is ready to give it total authority over any new epidemic that nullifies anything left of the constitution. Many people are trying to warn people about this, but it’s only getting attention outside the mainstream media. Of course.
Here’s one essay on what this will mean for us and the world. A few republicans are trying to put the kibosh on it because it’s written to bypass congressional approval.
Also remember that Biden has signed an executive order stating that all cars built after 2026 must have a kill switch installed. Gee I wonder why they would need that? Driving too far without permission? Boom! Anyone here vote for either of these things?

I would say it depends. Mostly they would readily accept the pill on the first try. But after tasting it the odds were greatly reduced for subsequent attempts. Although they were much easier to trick than cats.
And I as well:
And I would guess all c99ers would respond positively to that question as well.
Have a good one and keep yourself well, mimi.
Good morning...
Division is indeed the name of the globalist plan. Already forgotten is the vaxed vs unvaxed divide. Hate your neighbor is used to keep the focus off our real enemy, the oligarchs.
Now a day, it is Russia hate (and China hate) from the west...creating a global divide. The morons running the show are too arrogant to see that they are on the losing side...12% vs 88%...and an empire in decline.
I wonder if the CBDC bill stands a chance of passing. Thanks for letting us know about it.

The CBDC bill probably has as much of a chance of passing as snowball on the sun, but it's better than nothing, I guess. At the very least maybe it will wake up some more folks.
On a recent trip to Beaumont I noticed a lot of trash along the road. Texas is pretty good at cleaning along side of the roads so maybe it's because of the winter months. That still doesn't give the assholes a pass that throw their trash out along the roads.

to this day, carry battle scars from a male Himalayan cat that was just plain mean and was big and mighty strong as well. I finally wised up and would wear leather gloves when it was pill time. He was still able to penetrate the leather with his claws and teeth. Believe it or not his name was Pookie, it certainly didn't fit him but since he was given that name as a kitten it stuck.
Thanks than, that was hilarious!
That’s brilliant
and brings back memories of trying to get my cat to take a pill. I think they left out getting large quantities of iodine and bandages next time you go to the store. Between the cat and the beagle I’d take wrestling with the beagle any day.

Good morning Johnny, thanks for the great OT
and doubly for the art history feature, which I forwarded to select persons giving credit to you as source. FWIW, it is NOT true that cats hate pills. They can play with them for hours, batting them all over hell, pouncing on them from all over, etc. These pastimes, however, require that the pill be external to the cat and thus they will fight like hell to maintain that externality.
While working on a future OT, looking for a quotation for the decedents section, I located this gem
(Susan B. Anthony) There is serious merit in that proposition, and beyond that clues to all the divisions and divisiveness. From time immemorial, psychopaths and sociopaths have sought to control and exercise power over their contemporaties. The sleaziest among them have always focused on fear of the unknown/death to manipulate their victims, with a crass variation of this theme using threats of violence instead of psychological manipulation. If you think about it enough, you can find this game manifest in all the divisions you note. "So what?" you might ask and rightly so, but I suspect that in finding the root impetus and operating mechanism(s) we might be better able to overcome them.
Alternatively, we could try to work together to bring about some universal self-awareness and self-empowerment such that all of us can consider any and all of these and say "I'm better than that, I don't need to buy into that craziness" and more importantly spread than consciousness and behavior to as many friends, foes and acquaintances as one can. My cynical alter ego says "Yeah, good luck with that, bozo", but WTF, whatcha got to lose?

Good morning mi hermano...
that image is a hoot, I saw it somewhere on the tubes a few days ago and just had to post it.
I'm becoming more and more convinced that Homo Sapien sapien is a dead end entity. With our proclivity towards violence maybe we should be. Back in the old days sociopaths and psychopaths were taken care of in a much different way than letting them work their way up the corporate/political ladder as so often happens today. They've certainly benefited from the evolution of civil society.
Thanks old bud.
sometimes when looking out the window
you see yourself reflected in the glass, and confuse it for what is on the other side.
Of the nine neighbors closest to my house I know them all, and no one is upset with anyone else over any subject. One is the new precinct coordinator for the Dems, another a retired teacher couple, another a trainer for the county, another flies a Gadsden flag, all get along fine out here in normy land. Two Hispanic guys, a gay woman, two singles, seven couples.
That well defined poll...
with the wide cross section of participants settles the issue then, all is well in normie land.
Was this rumination based upon your experience?
I’ve spent a lot of time wondering how many people here
keep escaping the current thing mindset and not fall victim to the immense amount of propaganda that is being dished out daily. Here is one thought on that.
It’s the stupidity
I’m constantly asking myself what things that I believe to be true are not? I have thought some things have been true only to change my mind later after more facts come out. I followed the Q phenomenon at the beginning and maybe it was just hope that some of the deep state folks that screwed up the country would be brought to justice, but I changed my mind after time went by and they never were. But I did learn lots of things I hadn’t known about. I thought I’d die if I got the Rona but that went away after seeing more facts about it and knowing that there were treatments and things I could do to avoid getting it. So far and knock on wood I have. How many knew from the git go that Iraq didn’t have WMDs or that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11? Or that Russia didn’t put Trump in office nor were the republicans under Putin’s thumb. The whole Russia gate saga has been thoroughly debunked and yet there are so many people who still believe those things. No amount of evidence has gotten them to change their minds.
Thoughts?
Never more true than now:

question everything
Great insight...
from Dietrich Bonhoeffer, it does help explain things doesn't it.
I frequently expound upon the phrase, "trust nothing and question everything". As William Casey has said:
I believe them when they show me who they are. I am a firm believer in reexamining even the most trusted sources, I've written before about how both sides of any given narrative may be controlled. I do believe that we may be there right now.
The propaganda is so pervasive that it boggles the mind and no one will help you wade through the FUD except yourself, so you have to rely on your own instincts. In these trying times critical thinking is your best friend.
Back to Bonhoeffer's statement. I think that when the lies are so enormous and so hard to believe that many, if not most, folks self delude themselves by defaulting to "stupidity", as Bonhoeffer states. It's much easier to accept the status quo that way. Fear works in the same manner.
Dummheit
I suppose that many of those perfectly intelligent people were also perfectly anti-semitic before becoming perfectly stupid.
It’s late and a ruff day so I need some clarification
Anti semetic is anti Jew? If so I don’t think many were. People have pointed out that many Jews in Germany were their friends, neighbors and people they bought things from, ect. And that’s why it was stunning to others to see how quickly many turned on them. Sorry if I’ve read this wrong.
And remember how many elderly and disabled and even kids were euthanized well before the war started. Were people aware of that and okay with it because they were useless eaters? I dunno. Been awhile since I’ve read about this.
We saw this happen here when people said that anyone who wasn’t jabbed shouldn’t be allowed in hospitals if a jabbed person needed the attention or some even went as far as taking away people’s kids or locking them up or keep them from buying food. I was appalled at the viciousness that seemed to come out of nowhere.

Hi snoopy
There’ are so many resources contained in those two articles to explore. I intend to follow a few, at a time I can absorb them. They're not easy going. I’ve bookmarked the two articles. Thank you for including them.
From the Stanford Prison Experiment ...
“Milgram adduced a number of factors to account for such an unexpectedly high degree of potentially murderous obedience to a noncoercive authority.… Socialization through family, school, and military service, as well as a whole array of rewards and punishments within society generally, reinforces and internalizes a tendency toward obedience. A seemingly voluntary entry into an authority system ‘perceived’ as legitimate creates a strong sense of obligation.
Yeah Alice is quite prolific with her links
They were the 1st two essays of hers I read and they jolted me. I’m thankful that so many people share so much of their work for free and rarely put them behind paywalls.
If you watch the video I’d appreciate your feedback. I thought the ending was powerful, but the whole thing was put together well.
This sums up the last 3 years quite well doesn’t it?
People who were against authoritarian their entire lives did a complete 180 (or as Baercock said a 360) and didn’t see how they were led to change their belief system in a short time. Our leaders have studied Bernays and put his ideas to good use. We can thank Obama for some of that because he signed off on giving the government permission to use propaganda on us. Not that they hadn’t outright lied to us before, but I wonder if Russia gate would have happened like it did if he hadn’t.

I will let you know, snoopy n/t
Hi snoopy
Although the information related is not new, it is the best presentation of the knowledge accumulated I’ve seen. I will pass it on to those who would appreciate it. Sadly those I care about and love the most probably wouldn’t watch it anyway, but thankfully we've chosen to mutually love and respect each other rather than tragically opting for antagonism or alienation.
It’s material like this that helps reaffirm the sense there might be a better future through information. If I were head of WHO or Bill Gates I would mandate that everyone's water be spiked with a dose of wake-up medicine.
Silent Spring by Rachel Carson should have been required reading regarding the impact on life when nature is out of balance. Instead we get dumb silence and science.
Glad that you enjoyed it
I got lots of information from it because of how they tied so many things together. It’s disgusting how government has put corporations profits above our well being isn’t it? One thing that could change that would be to make lobbying illegal and prosecuted for the bribes that it is.
Thanks for the feedback.

question everything
Okay so I disagree.
We're more unified than ever.
The moneyed classes, for instance, are unified around the idea of exploiting the rest of us. The conservatives and liberals are unified around the idea that more capitalism -- i.e. more screwing of the public -- is inevitable. Regardless of how much they might hate certain aspects of it, neither side has the imagination to create anything else. So capitalism unto death it is. The public, on the other hand, agrees generally to be a great mass of suckers for the great confidence scheme that is our present-day American society. In that we are unified.
Be a jerk
Go to work
Do your job and do it right
Life's a BALL! TV tonight.
Do you love it, do you hate it
There it is the way you made it.
The Democrats and the Republicans agree on "division" for show, and also on "political capitalism" -- the principle that paying off your donors with politically-constituted ripoff legislation constitutes the whole of self-interest for the political class. We are all totally united, moreover, around the idea of re-electing a political class which supports endless, for-profit warfare on the world.
Woke politics, the fulcrum of partisan pseudo-division in American politics, is about providing a background wherein political campaigns can be waged without the slightest risk of changing anything of importance. So, for instance, on the one hand you have Ron DeSantis, whose attack on African American Studies is clearly a platform for a forthcoming Presidential run, and on the other hand you have Kamala Harris, vacuous ornament of the Biden administration, who serves as the politically-correct Dan Quayle to Biden's George H. W.. As for Biden's actual politics, remember that he was Strom Thurmond's BFF back in the day.
The gold standard for American political conformity was and is George W. Bush. His 95% approval rating after Nine-Eleven (tm) constituted the real core of American unity, against which all of the show divisions are mere cake icing. His opponents in the "elections," Gore and Kerry, agreed with nearly everything he had on offer, and he had those elections rigged against them anyway. W. achieved the sort of consensus, for instance, on what constitutes American education (the No Child Left Behind Act) which sticks to this day. W.'s successors, Obama, Trump, and Biden, exist mostly to complete his nation-building project.
In that regard I'd welcome some actual division.
