Album of the Week - 1-21-23

Afternoon folks!

We've got some serious blues this week with Harmonica George Smith doing a tribute album to Little Walter and an album by Lightnin' Hopkins playing both guitar and some piano too. There are albums by soul artist Al Green and New Orleans r&b musician Chris Kenner. There's some blues-rock with the Yardbirds and Omar & The Howlers. This week we've got a bunch of prog-rock with Be Bop Deluxe and Curved Air and a truly odd album probably in the avante-garde category with French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson.

Enjoy!

Here 'tis:

George Smith & The Chicago Blues Band – Blues With A Feeling - A Tribute To Little Walter

Lightnin' Hopkins - Lightnin' In New York

Al Green - Green Is Blues

Chris Kenner - Land Of 1000 Dances

The Yardbirds - For Your Love

Omar & The Howlers - Hard Times In The Land Of Plenty

Be Bop Deluxe - Sunburst Finish

French Frith Kaiser Thompson - Live Loaf Larf Love

Curved Air - Air Cut

So I dare to ask, what is that bullshit about the tanks which one should send to Ukraine. I can't hear this stuff anymore.

Zelensky is going around the world, begging for tanks. To do what with the tanks? Shoot a little more and make more destruction. Oh, they have to defend themselves against evil Russians, who are having "die Nase voll" von dem ganzen bullshit?

May be, just may be, Zelensky should have thought a little bit earlier about how to get along with the Russians without getting into a war quagmire.

Can't stand it anymore.

@mimi
Then, early in Putin’s SMO, after the mad dash in the Kiev direction and the collecting of Bio lab evidence, there was an offer made by Putin to negotiate a peace agreement based on the two Minsk ‘agreements’ that had never been actualized. Zelensky indicated a willingness to negotiate.

Enter Britain’s BoJo, emissary from the Western powers-that-be flying in for a face to face in Kiev with Zelensky. Suddenly fighting to the last Ukrainian was the way it was going to be. And so it was.

The West wanted it’s long planned proxy war and sanctions package…..to weaken Russia and then eventually plunder resources, as it has so many times before throughout its history. It is the Wests refusal to negotiate and honor the spirit of the Minsk accord's that has brought us this brutal attritional war and cost the lives and limbs of countless Ukrainians, It has also brought the world to the unthinkable brink of a wider World War III.

(Those who feed at the trough of the mainstream ‘news’ outlets will not recognize the series of events I outlined above, but they will likely continue chanting “Evil Putin, Evil Putin……” at least until Climate Change or Evil China displace it on page one.)

Hey Joe!

GREAT sounds man! I haven't heard Curved Air in decades. They were a good band. Pretty original and creative. They had a tiny small cult following in L.A. amongst the more heady esoteric music folk. They only got the weest bit of 2-4 a.m. airplay briefly. Just did not catch on, but did not seem to be much exposure effort. They were actually very good musicians. Neat to hear after all these years...

Sunburst Finish is great. Lots of great music on it. If only they hadn't looked like the sales dept. I remember when a buddy brought it over right when it came out...

Thanks for the great soundscapes!

I love Curved Air! Wish I had some of their stuff, but there's always Youtubezz and compressed files. Smile Saw a movie based around Chess Records. It showed the deep friendship between Muddy Waters and Little Walter. The talent attraction between the 2 spoke volumes, but Walter was a hothead. His death really saddened Muddy who tried to get his bud to cool down. I'm sure that's based on actual fact. Muddy really deserves all the honors and the iconic status. He wasn't just gifted, he was wise. The Etta James story wasn't too shabby either. Rec'd!!
