9/11 is the most significant national propaganda event in my lifetime. The actual tragedy of lost lives, a shocked, grieving nation and desire to help the nation recover was used to unleash a larger destructive force onto the world in the name of protecting our nation's citizens.

Tens of thousands of civilians likely killed by US in 'Forever Wars'

In the days after the terrorist atrocities of September 11, 2001, in which 2,977 people were killed by Al Qaeda in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia, US President George W. Bush announced the start of a new type of war, one without defined borders, boundaries, or timescales.

“Our war on terror begins with Al Qaeda, but it does not end there,” he told Americans. “It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated.”

“Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes visible on TV and covert operations secret even in success.”

“Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: either you are with us or you are with the terrorists,” he concluded.

So it came to pass. The War on Terror has been a near global endeavour. By 2017 for example, the US Department of Defense said it had around 8,000 “special operators” in 80 countries across the globe.

Dubbed the ‘Forever Wars,’ this conflict has not had clear territorial boundaries, though we have included in our dataset the seven most intensive US military campaigns. The types of conflict vary significantly but broadly fall into three categories:

Full invasions and occupations of countries – Afghanistan 2001-2021, and Iraq 2003-2009.
Major bombing campaigns against the Islamic State terror group – Iraq 2014-2021, Syria 2014-2021, and Libya 2016.
More targeted US drone and airstrike campaigns against militant and terror groups – Somalia 2007-2021, Yemen 2002-2021, Pakistan 2004-2018, and Libya 2014-2019.
...
Based on official US military data, we have concluded that the US has carried out a minimum of 91,340 airstrikes throughout the 20 years of the War on Terror.

If the US government's first priority was the health and welfare of its citizens this tragedy would not have played out in our lifetimes.

Years after 9/11, first responders are still dying from exposure. This is their story
Lies about the smoldering toxic air and its health effects have led to thousands more casualties

This is the untold 9/11 narrative, in which the United States was attacked; and then, in the days and months after, first responders and the people that lived, worked and studied in lower Manhattan and western Brooklyn were betrayed both by municipal officials and the Bush administration's Environmental Protection Agency. The reason, of course, relates to money: Officials in both agencies were more concerned amount preserving the pulse of Wall Street than the lungs of close to a half million people, including roughly 90,000 rescue and recovery workers.

Three days after the 9/11 attack, former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman, then-head of the Environmental Protection Agency, told reporters that "the good news continues to be that air samples we have taken have all been at levels that cause us no concern."
...
Catherine McVay Hughes, former chairwoman of lower Manhattan's Community Board 1, which includes the WTC site, remembers being skeptical when former EPA Administrator Whitman proclaimed that air in lower Manhattan was safe. At the time, the fires at the WTC site were still burning; they would not be fully extinguished until just before Christmas.

But Hughes, who serves on the WTC Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee, said that it was taboo at the time to raise such concerns.

"First of all, I am one of the most patriotic people out there," said Hughes, who was speaking only as a longtime member of the community. "But questioning whether or not the air was safe to breathe back then was perceived as almost being unpatriotic; and nowadays, there's scientific studies indicating how toxic and dangerous it was."

Twenty years out, I can't help but feel that history is repeating itself. There are alarming parallels, then and now, between what happened to WTC first responders and what we see today with essential workers amid the pandemic. Today, the CDC plays the role the EPA played then — particularly with the CDC's shifting guidance about the need for masks that characterized the early, anxious months of the pandemic.

And substitute Giuliani's maniacal push to be "open for business" as the WTC continued to burn for Trump's willful deceit about the pandemic, followed by his crime against humanity when he pitted red state against blue state to gain partisan advantage.

That cynical ploy continues to kill Americans to this very day.

________

Did the power games include an assassination in Afghanistan?

Was the Now-Forgotten Murder of One Man on September 9, 2001 a Crucial Pre-condition for 9/11?

Peter Dale Scott, with assistance from Aaron Good, breaks new ground with this exclusive investigation into the two-decades-old assassination of Ahmed Shah Massoud and may identify his murder as the green light—not only for Osama bin Laden’s attack on the World Trade Center—but also for the Bush/Cheney team’s long-planned invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq.

[The following complex argument is organized around five salient historical developments preceding September 11, 2001: (1) the incremental penetration of American military, political, and economic power into Central Asia following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, (2) the drafting in New York and London of the letter of introduction used by assassins to kill anti-Taliban leader Ahmed Shah Massoud, on September 9, 2001, (3) U.S. Government knowledge of the letter, (4) Massoud’s opposition to a U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, and (5) White House planning for military involvement in Afghanistan on September 10, the day after Massoud’s murder and one day before 9/11.]

Some of you may have read this yesterday when highlighted by snoopydawg on lost opportunities to infiltrate Al Qaeda prior to 9/11.

9/11: The spies inside Al-Qaeda who could have prevented the attacks

As the 20th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, the fascinating stories of three spies who infiltrated Al-Qaeda for Western intelligence are worth reexamining. Why was more not made of the information they could have provided?
...
So what were the FBI, CIA, MI5 and MI6 up to? Why did they systematically fail to exploit their human assets inside Al-Qaeda, either before or after the 9/11 attacks? When Aimen Dean reported in the early summer of 2001 that a big Al-Qaeda attack was imminent, Western intelligence could have sent him, Nasiri or Collins (or all three) into Afghanistan to try to find out more, but they did nothing of the sort.

Whether these are tales of tragic missed opportunities, outrageous institutional incompetence or something darker is unclear. While Dean is something of a public figure, Nasiri remains semi-anonymous and Collins died in 2016. The full story of the spies inside Al-Qaeda may never be told.

________

Here is one take on the significance of US abrupt withdrawal from Afghanistan in international power games.

Afghan debacle cedes Eurasia to the dragon and bear
China and Russia set to cement alliance with US withdrawal and existential common threat of jihad on their frontiers

NEW YORK – “This is manifestly not Saigon,” said United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken as helicopters snatched fleeing Americans from the embassy roof in Kabul. It’s incomparably worse for America’s world standing.

Like the fellow in the Sam Cooke song, Blinken doesn’t know much about history or geography. Unlike the man in the song, he doesn’t know that one and one is two, by which I mean Russia and China.

Richard Nixon opened diplomatic relations with China three years before the fall of South Vietnam, securing China’s tacit agreement not to exploit the Communist victory by exporting the revolution to the rest of Southeast Asia.

America’s defeat in Vietnam, damaging as it was, had a limited impact in the region. Afghanistan, by contrast, will draw China and Russia into a dominant role in Central and Western Asia.

The defeat of an American proxy regime by Taliban irregulars marks the first victory for a jihadist army against Western military forces since the annihilation of a British expeditionary force in Afghanistan in 1842.
...
The collapse of the reality show posing as the government of Afghanistan in August created a problem for China as well as Russia. The United States spent US$2 trillion, or an average of $50 billion a year over 20 years, in a country whose annual GDP barely amounted to $20 billion.

The tsunami of American money corrupted everyone and everything, including the American military. The US created not a government, but a reality show in which hired actors stole all the props.

When the Americans announced their departure, the relevant Afghans said in so many words: “The show’s been canceled – where do we audition for the next one?”

Perhaps it goes back even further but it is certain that the influence of these two brothers, steeped in a religious fundamentalism with a full embrace of capitalism and wartime profiteering, were architects of projecting and maintaining US dominance. At first in clandestine activities, over the subsequent decades in more overt ways and with the direct participation of our armed forces, violence against our current “enemy” has been the life blood of our economic growth and the hammer of our diplomacy. The military budget dwarfs all other sectors of our budget for the simple reason that it is at the center of who we are as a nation.

We are the world’s most significant terrorists, and our goal remains complete world domination. Those who are known as “terrorists” in the news are simply resisting in kind.

From a distance it is clearly a case of global insanity, one that has become our new “normal”.

@ovals49 books regarding the Dulles brothers, the formation of the CIA and other alphabet agencies.

'Devil's Chessboard' by David Talbot
'Finks' by Joel Whitney
From Amazon:

When news broke that the CIA had colluded with literary magazines to produce cultural propaganda throughout the Cold War, a debate began that has never been resolved. The story continues to unfold, with the reputations of some of America’s best-loved literary figures—including Peter Matthiessen, George Plimpton, and Richard Wright—tarnished as their work for the intelligence agency has come to light.

Finks is a tale of two CIAs, and how they blurred the line between propaganda and literature. One CIA created literary magazines that promoted American and European writers and cultural freedom, while the other toppled governments, using assassination and censorship as political tools. Defenders of the “cultural” CIA argue that it should have been lauded for boosting interest in the arts and freedom of thought, but the two CIAs had the same undercover goals, and shared many of the same methods: deception, subterfuge and intimidation.

Finks demonstrates how the good-versus-bad CIA is a false divide, and that the cultural Cold Warriors again and again used anti-Communism as a lever to spy relentlessly on leftists, and indeed writers of all political inclinations, and thereby pushed U.S. democracy a little closer to the Soviet model of the surveillance state.

A common theme in this book is that we must respond with strength, with force and with no hint of compromise. Moshe Arens, a minister in the Israeli government, believes we should warn other governments supporting terrorism that “shielding terrorism behind the facade and immunity of their embassies will no longer be tolerated,” and that democracies must reach agreements for military collaboration against terrorists. Yitzhak Rabin, former prime minister of Israel and current foreign minister, believes this collaboration should be formalized in an international center to direct actions against terrorists.

Secretary of State George Schultz and Sen. Paul Laxalt go even further. They argue that we must be prepared to launch preemptive strikes. I agree. Netanyahu adds that, “Under no circumstances should governments categorically rule out a military response simply because of the risk of civilian casualties.” I agree. In fact, Netanyahu sees no distinction between terrorists and a state that deliberately employs them. “We need not confine our military response to the terrorists themselves.” I emphatically agree.

Paul Johnson, British historian and former editor of the New Statesman, sums it up: “Let us debate privately among ourselves when, and if so how, we will be prepared to discard the obstacle of sovereignty and national frontiers, which shelter the state terrorists. Let us calmly and discreetly amass and train the forces which will be necessary for such police action and discuss how we will deal with the political and international consequences. Let us decide in good time the limits beyond which terrorist states will not be allowed to pass, and let us perfect a military instrument of fearful retribution when and if those limits are crossed.”

It became a war OF terror, not on terror...and the world sees it that way too.
Who do people see as the worlds biggest threat?

Peace-Threat.jpg

People are easily manipulated when they are scared. Many were frightened seeing the towers destroyed. They were willing to give up their rights and rule of law to be "safe". Ironically, they created their own fascist militarized forces powered by AI here at home.

The US became what they said they were fighting...terrorist.

9/11: A U.S. Deep State Insider Speaks …

An 8 part tweet stream by Pepe Escobar and posted with his permission

Pepe has two requests as follows:

Please retweet as much as possible

Please alert the Saker community – because at least parts of this thread may be “disappeared”, post-Allende-style, in no time. These are the parts that totally destroy the official narrative.

9/11: A U.S. DEEP STATE INSIDER SPEAKS Old school. Top clearance. Extremely discreet. Attended secret Deep State meetings on 9-11. Tired of all the lies. The following is what’s fit to print without being redacted.

Part 1 THE PHONE CALL. Up next.

“An emergency phone conference was held in the early afternoon of 9/11 based on the fact that WTC Building Number Seven was still standing. Demolitions were engineered to cause the building, as well as the others, to fall into its own footprint. I attended this call.”

Part 2 On WTC7: “No plane hit Building Number Seven.” “The CIA was brought to cover it up. The CIA set up failed asset bin Laden to blame as misdirection, then pulled the plug on Building Number Seven.” “The CIA doctored boarding tapes to show Arabs entering the planes.”

Part 3 On Mullah Omar: “Our CIA Arabists knew that if we blamed Osama, who was innocent of 9-11, Mullah Omar would not give him up in violation of the laws of Islamic hospitality. Mullah Omar requested evidence: then he would turn Osama over. Of course, we did not want that.”

Part 4 On heroin: “The Afghanistan heroin war was justified by 9-11. No one in Afghanistan was involved in 9/11. No member of Islam was involved. We invaded Afghanistan for only one purpose, which was to restart heroin production shut down by a righteous act of Mullah Omar.”

Part 5 On CIA and heroin: “CIA heroin plantations in Afghanistan funded external, clandestine operations and lined some important people’s pockets. That was common practice when the CIA ran the heroin operation in the Golden Triangle.”

Part 6 On MOTIVE: “It was never in the U.S. strategic interest to lay a curse on Islam in the West.” “9-11 was a kind of Gulf of Tonkin false flag operation justifying a war on Islam and the invasion of Iraq, followed by other invasions of Islamic nations.”

Part 7 Afghanistan-Iraq: “The Taliban loved us as they did not know that we lured Russia into Afghanistan. It was idiotic to think that they wanted to hurt their ally on 9-11.” “With Iraq invaded over a new falsity, the neocons created a war of hatred against Islam.”

Part 8 Who’s in charge: “The apex of the U.S. command structure is not the presidency. It’s the Deep State. I use that term even though we did not as it is commonly used.”

@CB I believe that an asset had been in place for at least the previous 10 years.

That is why the data the "investigators" used to determine who it might have been only went back 5 years. What I mean is, they only examined the work records of men who had worked in the WTC for more than 5 years. They already knew the answer to my question. They are still examining remains, but it's way too late.

The key, for me at the time, when data was plentiful, was to develop how an asset could hide in plain sight for 10 or more years, and then disappear successfully after the planes hit.

Turns out, it would not be all that difficult. Develop a profile of who could move around all the WTC buildings freely and easily. A well known face. Probably, a young guy in a janitorial or security position. Of average height and build. Clean shaven.

Then, how could this person exit undetected, be declared dead, and live happily ever after.

Again, not so hard to imagine. Over the years, the asset stored what he needed in the basements of Bulding 7 and maybe the other buildings. It's easy to imagine him going from building to building setting up timed explosives and then exiting Building 7, disguised.

Well disguised. Lifts in both shoes. 1" higher in one foot to change his gait. An oversized jacket, to blur his build, a cap, ponytail, fake beard, glasses. who knows...Exit for the cameras walk north in the crowds and remove disguse in a selected location without cameras----easier in 2001 than now to do, appearing in civilian clothes and big glasses until safe wherever he was hiding until he could leave NYC behind.

That's my imagined scenario and 20 years later it still seems to me that it may very well be what happened.

A Conversation w/Brian Berletic (ex US Marine Corps) on American Empire & Fighting Global Propaganda
Sep 10, 2021

Today Brian Berletic from The New Atlas to discuss what he does, why he does it and the climate of global propaganda and America's attempt to retain global hegemony & preserve their empire.

It has become obvious that the US is at a precipice of losing their hold on global hegemony, something that they have maintained with force and subterfuge since the end of WWII. I expect the Deep State to become more and more erratic and possibly escalate the situation into open conflict.

Some figures:

  • US - 41,743,069 cases with 677,037 deaths (yesterday 1,761 deaths)
  • China - 95,153 cases with 4,636 deaths (ZERO since January 2021)

The US had MORE deaths in less than a week than China has had during the ENTIRE pandemic.

What is worrying to me is the increasing death rate despite vaccinations in the preceding month. What the fuck is going on? Why the sudden huge rise?

COVID Vaccination-Death.png

Is this related to the vaccinations?

China uses a standard killed virus vaccine that our antibodies can recognize directly. US vaccines use engineered mRNA coded for the S protein of the virus to be taken up by our cells causing them to manufacture the actual protein. This spike protein is then ejected by the cell where our antibodies can detect it.

The only way we will know is with honest VAERS reporting. Unfortunately these are being politicized.

@CB
here’s some food for thought from an Epoch Times interview (Part One) 9/4/21:

Dr. Malone: There was a pivotal interview with the director of the CDC and she was asked, “Do we have any data? Do we have data, or do we just have hope about the benefits of the third dose?” And she, to her credit, acknowledged that we don’t have data. All we have is hope.
Here’s the problem with that. Vaccine responses are not linear. More is not better. There are many cases where if you dose more or dose more frequently or move beyond a prime and a boost, you can actually quench the immune response. You can move into “high zone tolerance.” You can move into a situation where your immune responses drop.

Now there’s a little bit of foreshadowing on this in another paper that’s out where they looked at the effects of vaccination post-infection. Remember this was the policy, that those like me that have been infected should go ahead and take two jabs, take two doses of vaccine.

Mr. Jekielek: Which you did.

Dr. Malone: Which I did, hoping that it would be helpful for a long COVID period. That data hasn’t really played out that way. And there’s a paper showing that you can actually quench T-cell responses. You get an improved kind of a super immune response, they assert in that manuscript, after a single dose when you’ve been previously infected. But with the second dose, your T-cell population actually gets quenched, which is consistent with high zone tolerance.
So if that paper was to be expanded and verified with more robust numbers, it would suggest that one dose after natural infection would be a good thing. Two doses would be a bad thing. Now that’s the equivalent of three doses if you think about it, natural infection being dose one.
So to say that we don’t have any data is a little misleading. We have some leading indicators that suggest that it might not be such a good idea. And now, that data will come out from Israel. The conservative position to take is time will tell, and then we will know.

one quick comment above before chores & errands time set in, and been running since. Luckily, I get a lunch break.

A new type of war indeed:
“Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes visible on TV and covert operations secret even in success.”
And that's just here at home, against POC and the left.

I worry that this remembrance will never end. Almost nobody takes any note of Pearl Harbor any more, but maybe that's because they became "our ally". BUT, al qaeda has been our ally for over a decade now, at least in Syria.

Whatever, the eternal wars, external and internal will surely continue, the US really has no other raison d'etre. The external wars are our lifeblood and the internal ones are needed to keep them going.

Thanks for the great column and all the good stuff therein.

Twenty-six years ago on this date, September 11, 1990, George Bush spoke to the Congress and the world. In his speech, George Bush declared a “new world order” as he prepared for war. (transcript, video)

FIRST NEW WORLD ORDER SPEECH

We gather tonight, witness to events in the Persian Gulf as significant as they are tragic. In the early morning hours of August 2nd, following negotiations and promises by Iraq’s dictator Saddam Hussein not to use force, a powerful Iraqi army invaded its trusting and much weaker neighbor, Kuwait…

Once again, Americans have stepped forward to share a tearful good-bye with their families before leaving for a strange and distant shore. At this very moment, they serve together with Arabs, Europeans, Asians and Africans in defense of principle and the dream of a new world order. That’s why they sweat and toil in the sand and the heat and the sun.

The George Bush vision of a “new world order” would be reiterated in other speeches over the period.
