Friday Night Photos Import edition

These are some shots of the Scaly-breasted Munia, aka Spotted Munia, Nutmeg Manikin, Spice Finch. It's native to India and South Asia. Do to the pet bird trade it is now found in coastal California from the Mexican border to the SF bay area and scattered areas along the gulf coast from Texas to Florida.
The first shot was taken a few years ago at nearby Lindo Lake. The other two were taken last Thursday morning at the bird feeder in my backyard. I've seen them a few times at the birdbath but this is the first time I've seen any at the feeder.

When I offer to wash your back in the shower, all you have to say is yes or no.
Not all this "who are you, and how did you get in here?" nonsense.

@mimi

I am more captivated by the human smile in the photo. It's beautiful.

Great pix S.P.! I learned them as Nutmeg Mannakin, and Spice Finch, and those were the pet trade names most used. Recently there was some taxonomic work and the group was split into more species, out came Scaly-breasted Munia as the official name of this type, which so is what birders call them now.

Personally I am not a fan of anything introduced. They are all problems or become them. Starlings and House Sparrows were major factors in the decreases of Eastern Bluebird and Red-headed Woodpecker. Though in some cases the introduced birds may be filling a niche that might be fairly unoccupied. Such as the parrots in socal which mostly feed on ornamental non-native species of trees, and so are not competing with or displacing anything really. I don't know how that relates to these munias, or the Red Bishops, the other pet trade finch/sparrow kinda thingie that is becoming established. They are fairly new on the scene, mostly since the 1990's. Too soon to tell.

Great photos though!

Here are a few of the things in bloom here now...

Our Tropical Sage (a Salvia sps.) is blooming well, more than a hundred flowers around the front porch, with butterflies and hummingbirds of course.
tropsage051620b.jpg

The Red Turkscap is going off well too, at least 50 flowers at once for weeks, on a half dozen or so not very big ones. A few bigger butterflies and the hummers love them too.
redturkscap072519a.jpg

A little bit of Scarlet Pea is going, but hardly ever see anything on it.
scrltP062419a.jpg

The Snow-on-the-Mountain is going well now. Some small native bees quite like it, that is what the Hemiptera sps. insect is waiting for.

Hope all are well! Having fun is the best revenge!

We got caught in this storm tonight on our walk…

We headed home when it started lighting. The skies just opened up on us and boy did it smell good!

Cool picture of the storm. We had some lightning Thursday night but no rain. It would have been nice to get some much needed rain.

Pretty Flowers. I think the beetle is a member of the scarab family. Hopefully dystopian will let us know.
