The Fight Against The Empire

There is more going on in the NYC Mayoral Race than the Ruling Establishment wants you to know. The forces gathering to defeat Andrew Yang based on fake information may work. The idea now seems to be to keep all the non-viable candidates in the race so that they will dilute Yang's share of the vote. This tactic has never worked in NYC, but there is always a first time.

Scott Stringer never was a Progressive. That is why his supporters, finally awake, have deserted him. In the same way, Andrew Yang is Not who the Left is painting him to be.

The Progressives, the Left Wing of the Democratic Party, the DSA, are embarrassed by their selection of Scott Stringer as their new Progressive Leader. They were duped. Now they know the truth on that candidate. They are looking for a new candidate to call their own and they are blowing it big time.

The current wisdom being hawked on propaganda TV and media is that Eric Adams and Andrew Yang are somehow both right wing "centrists." How's that for a contradiction in terms?

But I digress.

Andrew Yang is an alternative to the Adams coalition which includes Andrew Cuomo, Michael Bloomberg, ClintonWorld, Jay Jacobs (New York State Democratic leader,) and every neo Fake Progressive on the list. Ray McGuire is a rich guy who has never voted or governed but thinks he is smart. Shaun Donovan was Bloomberg's hatchet man, responsible for the loss of over 100,000 units of middle income housing which got sold off for luxury housing developers.

Maya Wiley was a spokesperson for msdnc and talks poverty but was as privileged as it is possible to be. Wealthy parents and every advantage.

Progressives are painting Adams and Yang as equal threats when it is entirely untrue.

The Tweet above tells you what you need to understand. Yang is for policies that help all of us. Adams is another Cuomo. No similarities in any way. The NYC press has begun revealing the ugly truth about Adams and I hope it is not too late. A corrupt cheat with all the worst friends.

Ben Max who tweeted the remarkable item above is not a Yang fan. It may be that he is waking up! 26 days until Early Voting Begins.

Endorsements Don't Matter Much in NYC The interesting thing about this Tweet is that the elected officials from Brooklyn, where Adams has been the Borough President, are endorsing Other candidates. Hakeem Jeffries, for example, has endorsed Kathryn Garcia. or maybe it was Maya Wiley. Doesn't matter either way because even with their combined share of the votes they do not equal double digits.

AOC has endorsed Brad Lander for Comptroller. Lander, whom I favor, is polling at 3% and AOC's endorsement is worthless here and will be worthless if she endorses for Mayor.

OTOH Yang has congressional endorsers, NYS Assembly endorsers, NYS Senate endorsers, NYC Council endorsers, on and on. People like Andrew.

What are those Progressive Policies Yang supports? And what has the opposition resulting from those positions?

For one, Yang supports removing tax-free status from profit-making enterprises. Madison Square Garden is one of these Yang has singled out. It's owner, Bob Dolan, has formed a SuperPac to oppose Yang. Similarly the Charter School system is lobbying hard against Yang.

Real Estate owners who intend to keep high priced neighborhoods free of middle class residents are furious that Yang did a Press Conference standing in Soho promoting a mixed income, including Low Income, housing development in Soho. Similarly Yang has suggested that the long established practice of landowners and empty business locations keep their property vacant for years until they can get the most for it. Yang wants an Empty Lot and Shop Tax. That did not go over very well with high income owners.

Yang stands with Parents and not with the Teacher's Union. At first, people were shocked, including me. I am a retired early childhood teacher. But I caught on pretty soon. Yang is speaking for our entire economy getting back on track and not for the narrow slice the UFT represents. I am with Andrew all the way on this.

Going out and about for now but will be back to answer questions and concerns later on.

Late Breaking News: Another Fake Progressive Bites the Dust

Dianne Morales denies she is a Progressive. Oh well.

Andrew Yang has never claimed to be a (P). He is content to let his views and policies speak for him, and watch others try to claim mantles they never deserved. Maya Wiley is the next Faux Progressive that may not pass the smell test.

BFD---Last Tweet on this thread

Ritchie Torres is Andrew Yang's Co-Campaign Manager. He is a US Congressman from the Bronx. If Corey and Andrew run as a team with joint appearances it will be hard/impossible to stop them.

Corey is the Super Popular Speaker of the NYC Council and was long expected to be our next Mayor. Corey dropped out of the race, and out of sight for a bit, because of a depressive period during the pandemic and it seems to have endeared him even more with his New York supporters.

@PriceRip Progressives need to wake up before they have 4 years of Police State rule and a total lockout from NYC politics. That's what Adams is. If I have time I'll find the quote explaining Eric Adams style. Punish. Exclude. Just like King Cuomo II.

@NYCVG , I was active with organizing progressives (okay!, as many as were in central Nebraska). What I found was that there was never a time we formed a "party", ever. But with respect to each issue a fair number (as in enough to get the job done) would create a solution that effected sustainable changes most of the time.

In the long run we won, even as during the short term(s) it looked like we were going backward.

RCMH, Exactly where Dolan appeared today with Cuomo talking about vaccinations. Obviously trying to position himself as a public servant and a counter attack on what Yang has been saying to New York voters.

Do you think many of the voters will have Yang as their second choice if their preferred candidate does not succeed?

@humphrey That is what all the polling shows.

Yang wins on the first round and bigger on the second round.

But all that was 2 or 3 weeks ago and nothing is for certain yet.

@NYCVG
so it really doesn't matter how open my mind is. But he started his political career offering the consumer class free money so that they will "buy stuff I make" (he ran business seminars - he made nothing) then he went on The Patriot Act and played lovable straight man. (I guess he forgot his saxophone) He suggested replacing the progressive income tax with a VAT because "we can't make the rich pay their taxes". Then, running for mayor of NYC, he gave a boilerplate pro Israel tweet. Now he's a progressive paladin? His face turn is more believable than Biden's, but there's a reason I chose a pro wrestling term.

@doh1304 is your own. But it is not what this post is about.

Its theme is the Democratic Establishment against a candidate they are trying to keep out of office. Bernie redux or a new version of protecting their territory?

Feelings and beliefs about Yang, positive or negative, historic or current, deserved or not, mine or yours, are all irrelevant to this conversation.

@doh1304 understanding.

In addition, I take your points about Yang seriously. The actual quality of a candidate seems to matter less than their charisma. Trump. Obama.

Empty Lot and Shop Tax is something a lot of cities need to be doing, and if such a thing were passed AND ENFORCED in NYC, some of those other cities might see how much revenue can be raised from such a policy and do the same themselves. I imagine that RE people all across the country don't like that one. Two questions:

Is Yang, in your view, serious about this? We all know by now that politicians say a lot of things for effect, or as negotiating tactics, and so do businessmen.

I happen to know, from a relative who is a DSA member in NYC, that DSA is actively campaigning for several self-described socialists running for NY City Council. I don't know the names. Would they, in your view, support an Empty Lot and Shop Tax?

I would be looking closely at Adams. I share doh1304's concerns about Yang. I assure you I have no wish to derail your thread, but Yang's reported remarks about Israel would likely have lost my vote. It sounded to me like something he said, pro forma, for someone or other's endorsement, which, if he is ahead, he shouldn't have needed.

Adams has a detailed policy platform, I read some of it, and a long history of public service. He is clearly a known quantity, and if the worst you can say about him is "austere"--a virtue in my estimation--and "believes in punishment"--cops generally do, and with reason, given what they see daily, that sounds pretty good to me. If there are credible allegations as to personal conduct, bribery, frontmanning for corporate interests, I have not yet heard them.

I don't doubt Yang is a good person and means well, but I rather think the ascendency of style and pizzazz is coming to what is for a lot of us a welcome end. The last presidential administration was, among other things, a stark illustration of where emotional voting can take you, and after four years of The Trump Show, Biden the Boring was a welcome relief.

As for why the press et al are ganging up on Yang, it rather looks to me like a turf war between powerful entrenched interests and a rising East Asian diaspora. I do believe NYC has seen that sort of thing before.

@Nastarana @Nastarana @Nastarana and the last thing NYC needs.

Not a single current elected official who has worked with Adams him has joined his team.If you liked Michael Bloomberg, then Adams may be right for you.

Do not expect me to respond to your concern about Yang as unlike doh1304 your questions and concerns seem like a fifth column establishment troll to me. Even though you are very polite and undoubtedly a decent person, I am not interested in your view of an election you have no understanding of.

This is admittedly rude, but I write about what I know from on the ground long experience and knowledge of the issues and participants in the current drama and think about it all, unlike the press, newspapers and TV which work for special interests and do not have sources as good as mine that are not bought and paid for.

Yang today on the disgrace that is Eric Adams.

@Nastarana Your questions mirror mine.
Overall, I sort of keep up with which star quality candidate wins over the others, but what happens in NYC stays in NYC. At least it doesn't reach Texas.
I didn't like Yang before, still do not like him, and the tweet about Israel was disgusting, in my opinion. Very suck up, ass kissing. Another go along to get along politician.
I do hope NYC will be able to rid itself of the political domination of Cuomo, et al.
And I wish for them a better government.
We thought Beto was a progressive.
I am glad I didn't get too involved, although I voted for him. I wasn't hopeful if he won that things you improve much.

@on the cusp Pushing a Right Wing Republican instead is another matter.

Adams was also a Lewis Farrakan supporter.

There is no end to the horror of Adams. Both the NY Times and the NY Daily News have woken up and have started covering him in the way he deserves.

I am not saying that your views on Yang have no foundation. Obviously he said what he said about Israel. It is horrible. What is remarkable is the fuss about it.

"Israel has a right to defend itself" is the standard boilerplate crap most politicians say and it is disgraceful. If any of the other 7 candidates said it and I am certain they all did, it would not have been news. My position on Israel has been detailed elsewhere mostly on Wendy's wonderful threads.

@on the cusp @on the cusp doubt I would vote for him, a comment which I believe is relevant because he may well run in a statewide office someday. Now if he were to primary Chuckie Schemer, there he would get my vote. Probably so would Porky Pig.

UBI is a good idea if, and only if, it is combined with rent control. The proposed policy right now, as I understand it, amounts to a giveaway to rental property owners, plus a little left over to spend shopping.

I do not consider Louis Farrakhan to be the devil incarnate, as some do. I once heard him on you tube I think it was describe Shillary as a "wicked woman". I think that about covers it.

@Nastarana @Nastarana if there is no gain in what the UBI can do to raise or maintain a desired or necessary standard of living. There must be lids on rent, medical care, food, water, electricity, fuel.
Otherwise, it is more of the same.
