Senate Confirms Amy C. Barrett for SCOTUS

From thehill.com:

The 52-48 Senate vote on Barrett's nomination capped off a rare presidential election year Supreme Court fight sparked by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Sept. 18. GOP Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) was the only Republican to oppose Barrett, saying she doesn’t believe a nomination should come up before the election.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who previously voted against advancing Barrett because of the election, supported her nomination on Monday. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) returned from the campaign trail to oppose Barrett's nomination.

Justice 'Long Dong' Clarence Thomas is expected to give Barrett the constitution oath as an associate justice on the Supreme Court at 9 p.m. at the White House. Chief Justice John Roberts will administer her judicial oath at the high court on Tuesday.

See you in the morning.

Given that Thomas never speaks

How did he perform the oath of office?

He spoke just fine when called upon to do so. Besides, that speaking, with words specified by law, required no thinking, just gas-blowing.

You're thinking of Teller, of "Penn and Teller" fame. Who would be a far better Justice than either Barrett or Thomas. Wink

oh, and as for murkowski, i went back to the hill to fetch this separate article:

'Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) just before the Senate vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court predicted the Trump nominee will not vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark case establishing a right to an abortion, once she is on the Supreme Court.

“I don’t see her overturning the decision in Roe v. Wade, based on — based on the weighting of the reliance factors,” Murkowski, a GOP moderate who is voting for Barrett, said Monday evening.

“I believe, I believe, that given how she outlined, not only to me but how she spoke to the issue of reliance when she was before the committee, I believe that she will look at that and weight that in any matters, in any cases that come before her that take up Roe v. Wade,” she explained.'

...is Reliance on Fundamental Human Rights. In other words:
.

In the US, does a Human Being have complete control over their own body? Or can Humans be forced by the State to use their bodies to serve the interests or needs of another entity?

.
Can their bodies be used — against their will — for harvesting organs, tissue, or blood? Can the body of an unwilling Human be captured and immobilized by the State and used to provide temporary or permanent life support to another person? Can the body of a Human Being be cultivated like a farm — against their will — to grow other organisms for later harvest? Can an unwilling Human Being be forced by the State to use their body as livestock, to reproduce another human being?

Or, is the body of a Human Being the sovereign property of that person?

The answer is either Yes or No. And since the State can murder citizens as punishment for crimes, then Human Beings do not have a right to their own lives in the US. This is a key violation of Human Rights. It is a disgrace to willingly live in such a country.

Roe vs. Wade does not covey or confirm "women's rights" or the Rights of Human Beings. It is a forced technical error that gave women agency over their bodies without declaring that women had legal Rights. It is just another piece of revokable fake legislation executed by the unaccountable Supreme Court to trick gullible People into thinking they are free and have inalienable Rights that supersede man-made laws. The Roe vs. Wade decision was randomly pegged to the Fourth Amendment — the Right to Privacy — which was revoked by fiat during Neocon Wars for Empire in the Middle East. A revokable Bill of Rights is worthless to the People. The First Amendment is being revoked before our eyes via the slow murder of Julian Assange. The bogus Roe vs. Wade decision should be overthrown if only to open People's eyes to the Slave-Owners Constitution that exploits their labor and denies their Human Rights.

The US ratified the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 at the UN General Assembly in Paris. The vote was unanimous among all nations. But until the United States is forced to incorporate these Human Rights into its obsolete colonial Constitution, neither men nor women in the United States will achieve even the most basic Human Rights — Rights that they currently denied.

There are few people in the world who would lift a finger to help Americans gain Human Rights in their own nation. As the US wages illegal wars around the world resulting in enormous human suffering, the American people utter not one word of protest over these war crimes that they are funding. The US was forced to resign from the UN Human Rights Council this year because they are one of the world's leading offenders against the Rights of Human Beings. The US has made a mockery of Human Rights, globally, and undermined the concept of Individual and social Sovereignty that they are based upon.

The American People will not demand Human Rights for themselves. They are too lost in the lies and propaganda that is forced on them. The brain-damaged Americans will surely shoot each other, but the US will not fight a Civil War because the People don't know what they are fighting for or who they are supposed to kill to make America Great Again. They can't think.

subversive and uncommon thought, my friend. i like it, even though i'll need to read it a few more times to let it sink in.

case in point: it's often posited, and i'd seen it as recently at RT.com if alleged biological fathers don't have a legal right to stop pregnancy terminations. #BodyFarms, aka: the handmaids' tale.

But I am obviously out of sync with the commonly-shared time-space reality. It's a personal defect that the Internet amplifies. I'm hoping that if I live long enough, I will eclipse my Cassandra self and the two time-spaces may finally sync up. It seems to be getting a lot closer that it used to be.

To me, this is a positive development — it's an adversity that can help evolve more enlightened pattern recognition leading to less dumbness. If nothing else, over-reach always exposes the psychopaths and the forces of evil that use them as tools. On another note: People should pretend they are living inside their utopian dream, the way children do, if only for a few minutes each day. It increases the realm of possibilities for everyone.

As for reproduction issues, men are denied far more rights than woman, key rights that most people have never even conceived of. But I try to keep my [r]evolutionary views buried in the comments of worthwhile essays, in recent years. Less disruption for everyone, especially for those who have not booked passage for such a voyage.

Murkowski's fantasies violate the FIRST PRINCIPLE of Human Rights. She is an agent of de-evolution. The hook came out and dragged her offstage years ago, as far as the Universe is concerned.

air, amiga. i'm glad you shared some of what you see and know...intuitively (?) by way of your space-time spaces beginning to mesh.

wish i could keep up with you, but i will offer that i live in a major time warp due to some brain damage, including sequential time, as in: what came before this or that order.

as far a utopia, mr. wd and i created one where we live, and the hundreds of trees, birds, and four-leggeds help daily to ward off panic of the concerns of the day we see so often online, and remain at least a bit more philosophical. i'll admit though, i'm vexed with the bears that climb the apple and plum trees and break major branches, yet deign to eat the fruit on the ground. ; )

sorry to have been so long, but my walmart cheaters broke, and i was unable to glue them back together, and am using some funky, scratchy, weaker ones that are in danger of coming apart as well.

but more seriously, my vision of heading 'toward utopia' would be an end to capitalism, empire, and actually trying democracy; not the kind that amerikan foreign policy and war...export.

you might want to watch the video i'd posted the other day: ‘Let Your Life Be a Friction to Stop the Machine’ from Class War Films, March 12, 2012

(23 minutes, & even more relevant now than then)

A brief and crucial alternative history of the United States. FULL MANIFESTO:

“If the injustice is part of the necessary friction of the machine of government, let it go, let it go; perchance it will wear smooth — certainly the machine will wear out. If the injustice has a spring, or a pulley, or a rope, or a crank, exclusively for itself, then perhaps you may consider whether the remedy will not be worse than the evil; but if it is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then, I say, break the law. Let your life be a counter friction to stop the machine. What I have to do is to see, at any rate, that I do not lend myself to the wrong which I condemn.”

Bear in mind, for what it's worth: If Roe V Wade WERE overturned, it wouldn't REALLY be like the fundie fantasy of no more abortions ever - it would return to being a "states' rights" issue, and even then, only the poor would be truly SOL. got me laughing, but also reminded me that mr. wd had told me that literally overnight, these lawn signs had sprouted up mightily like mushrooms on the paved streets in our town of perhaps population 1100; my Qs to you and the room at large: have you seen them, while noting that they sell for $20-$30 (even available on amazon!), and do you have any guess what they signify?

a side note: now in our town, many folks are Ds; the Rs are the very wealthy outside town.

this link i'd found says:

'STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- Despite your political views, we can all agree that “Wu-Tang is Forever.” That is what online vendors believe, at least.

Multiple organizations are producing campaign-styled lawn signs on Amazon endorsing Wu-Tang Clan -- the legendary hip-hop group from Staten Island -- for the 2020 Presidential Election. The signs read “Presidents are Temporary, Wu Tang is Forever” and range between the prices of $20-$30 each.

This product is not officially linked to the Wu-Tang Clan’s brand and is considered a “parody” item. The original concept came from Rafael Medina, who independently sells the signs on Staten Island.

“I made them up with an inadvertent message that no matter what side you vote for we are still all Americans and most importantly [Staten] Islanders,” Medina told SILive.com “We should have each others back and maybe even have a laugh together.”

I'd have respected them a bit more if they admitted that fact up front and spared us their bullshit.

I'd respect them even more if they'd fought to get power in the meticulous way that the GOP has. The GOP filled every position in their districts from School Board to dog catcher with like-minded folks. The Dems barely bothered to even provide candidates for Congressional seats.

(perhaps at the senate judiciary committee?) that miz barret is a lovely person?

anyhoo, patrick martin has this to say about Long Dong Silver this a.m.:

In a blatantly partisan affair, the most right-wing justice on the court, Clarence Thomas, administered the oath of office. Thomas is also the last survivor on the court of the majority who stole the 2000 presidential election with the 5-4 Bush v. Gore decision.

he's added these paragraphs among many others, although i'm not positive that he's correct about who he believes 'globalists' to be, and a couple other assertions:

'Trump’s remarks were a scripted tribute to the US Constitution as “the ultimate defense of American liberty.” The real sentiments of this would-be dictator were expressed earlier in the day in Pennsylvania, where he roared threats of violent retribution against the state’s Democratic governor if he should dare to interfere with the efforts of Trump’s fascistic supporters to intimidate voters.

Referring to Democrat Tom Wolf, Trump said, “The governor counts the ballots, and we are watching you, governor, very closely in Philadelphia. A lot of bad things happen there with the counting of the votes. We are watching you, Governor Wolf, very closely. We’re watching you.”

Later in his speech, Trump referred to his opponents as “globalists”—a frequent synonym for “Jews” in fascist discourse. Speaking like a mafia boss about his thugs, he said, “We have very nice people, they don’t want to do anything before the election. Very nice, very nice people.”

Trump told the crowd he is working with police across the country to monitor vote-counting: “All we can say is law enforcement is watching Nevada, it is watching Philadelphia and Pennsylvania because they had a lot of strange things. And we are watching the Democrat governor who has got his state shut down, great state, North Carolina. We’re watching North Carolina, we’re watching Michigan.”

Crowd members began shouting, “Lock him up” at the mention of Governor Wolf’s name, echoing chants against Whitmer at last week’s rally in Muskegon, Michigan. It is less than three weeks since federal and state police arrested 13 pro-Trump gunmen, who were in the final stages of preparing to kidnap and murder Whitmer, who has clashed with Trump over the state’s policy in enforcing the coronavirus lockdown.'

file under: even a dim bulb lights once in a while. from the NYT piece on anita hill's testimony i'd linked (and had borrowed the newspaper 'art' at the top of the OP:

Ms. Hill said that Judge Thomas had repeatedly asked her to go out with him in a social capacity and would not take no for an answer. She said he would talk about sex in vivid detail, describing pornography he had seen involving women with large breasts, women having sex with animals, group sex and rape scenes.

Judge Thomas would also talk about his own “sexual prowess” in workplace conversations, Ms. Hill said. And he once mentioned a pornographic film whose star was called “Long Dong Silver,” which turned into an infamous name in American political lore.

“It would have been more comfortable to remain silent,” she said. “But when I was asked by a representative of this committee to report my experience, I felt that I had to tell the truth. I could not keep silent.”

After Ms. Hill’s opening statement, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., the Delaware Democrat who was then chairman of the committee, began questioning her on the specific locations of her harassment allegations. She mentioned the “incident of the Coke can,” which — as she had described a half-hour earlier — involved Judge Thomas asking her who had put pubic hair on his can of cola.

Mr. Biden asked, “Can you describe it, once again, for me please?”

After a sigh, Ms. Hill did.

DAVID SIROTA: Well, the Democrats have a lot of options in terms of grinding the Senate business to a halt as a whole. The Senate runs on a system of unanimous consent, which means that each senator says the normal, regular business of the day can happen. And each senator could object to that. They can demand the enforcement of rules about committee hearings. I mean, there is no filibuster on judges anymore, but there are still parliamentary procedures to slow things down.

They chose not to.
