I didn't think they were going to debate.
I am way out of the loop. Trump is SO RIGHT about this, isn't he?
Dems are a joke, or, the ass end of Trump's jokes.
Either way, we are so screwed.

probably Trump as he got his shot of drugs into his brain. So Biden may win, as the drugs damage the brain, but being shot into his ass, he can just shit them out.

It is really amazing what is happening to us all over the world, but again America is First in ass-shooting drugs. Bravo.

You know, my spouse and I have wondered several times how Joe can be so befuddled one moment and then seem to get it together the next. Is Trump on to something here???

moment to being coherent the next. We saw him stumbling a few times during the debates where he got lost in his comment and said that his time was up for answering the question, the numerous videos of him not being able to put words together in a sentence that makes sense to his good debate with just him and Bernie. So how is he able to do that? Drugs as Marie points out below. I have no problem with him getting help to be coherent, but I do object to it to make it seem like he doesn't have mental issues. His supporters say it is just a stutter. Well isn't that like tripping over a word and not a whole sentence?

This is the worst one I’ve seen.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@snoopydawg two VP debates. And before this year, I'd never heard that Biden had a stutter problem.

which can greatly help a dementia patient. (as you and Marie mention)

Regarding the efficacy of a drug taken by dementia patients--just as one's metabolism, stress level, and other factors can, and sometimes do, affect the efficacy prescription drugs, the same goes for dementia RX's.

So, I'm not particularly surprised that there are so much variations in HHJ's debate/speaking performances.

IMO, both candidates should furnish 'the American People' detailed results (including lab tests, etc.) from their most recent physical exams.

Also, Biden should have to furnish records pertaining to his two brain aneurysm surgeries. (in light of his current condition, especially) Not long ago, one of his former speech writers said that he was unrecognizable, today (from when he wrote for him several years ago)

OM has only had an appendectomy, as a juvenile. But, if those records are still available, he should furnish them.

What shouldn't be allowed to happen is what Sanders did--refuse to furnish actual lab exam/tests after his heart surgery/stent implantation, or, whatever it was. IOW, he released a few generalized statements or sentences regarding his heart attack--from both a specialist, and, from his primary physician--the OAP physician, Dr Brian P Monahan. A couple test results were furnished, but, he supposedly had tests which actually indicated the degree of residual damage to his heart muscle, and they were never released. (IOW, the tests that would be the most instructive regarding the condition of Bernie's heart, going forward, were withheld.)

HHJ (Hidey Hole Joe) mentioned a couple weeks ago that he furnished extensive records when he was vetted as VP. But, not a word about 'recent' records.

Anyone know if he's offered any?

Couldn't figure out 'why' he would mention medical records from 8 plus years ago (when he was vetted for VP), if he's released 'updated' records this election cycle.

Of course, OM should also cough up all his exam records--including, whatever happened months ago at Walter Reed.

I think both candidates should be drug tested, and the results released pre-Debate.

And, the Debate Commission should not allow 'virtual' debates--which I figure HHJ will push for, so he can use cue cards, teleprompter, etc.

BTW, George S said that HHJ had a scheduling conflict, but, that he was invited. We'll see if he shows up some time in the future. Don't know about OM invite on CNN. Time will tell.

Have a nice Sunday, Everyone. Beautiful fall day here!

SD, my thoughts are with you and little Charlie. Take good care.

@Unabashed Liberal (and SD seems to share it) is the dramatic difference in Biden's coherence when he's in a high stakes appearance. It's not a gradual improvement and he deteriorates quickly after that. Modest improvement that is sustainable for several months seems to be more common among dementia medications. If there were a drug that quickly restores an early dementia patient to 90% of their prior functioning, patients and their families would be clamoring for it.

It's possible that Biden must take a medication for some other medical condition and that medication reduces his mental functioning. If so, not taking the medication for a few days could restore his mental functioning but can only go without it for that short period of time.

@Marie

your input.

I must say, I'm not sure 'which' debates were that impressive. Honestly, I thought that he was pretty weak during most of the regular primary debates.

(as I recall, he usually had little to say, and, often apologized profusely for speaking, when he did speak; not to mention, the appearance of a verbal tick that he's developed--repeating certain words and phrases, over and over and over)

Yes, HHJ (Hidey Hole Joe) was basically coherent during the debate with Bernie. And, he didn't do too bad with Anderson Cooper the other night. Again, that's using the ultra-low bar that he didn't lapse into absolutely incoherent blather, like he often does in a spontaneous setting with supporters, reporters, etc. But, since I've seen piece after piece describing his relationship with Bernie as very 'close friends,' I figure that he wasn't all that stressed out during their one-on-one Debate--probably, because he knew that Bernie wouldn't personally attack him.

And, unlike the way George S went after OM (Orange Man) during the ABC townhall last week--one can argue whether or not it was justified, but, it was the total opposite of the way HHJ was treated on CNN--Anderson Cooper threw nothing but softballs at him.

Heck, I thought Anderson was going to lean over and give him a hug, or something. Biggrin IMO, the format should have been billed as "a Conversation with HHJ" - especially, since there was a mostly friendly audience, with questions thrown in only about every 15 minutes, or so. IIRC, HHJ didn't fully address most of the questions asked. And, he often quickly veered to another topic, or talking point--intentionally, or otherwise.

That could very well account for his improved performance (partially, at least).

Marie, there's no way that I can argue that your supposition,

It's possible that Biden must take a medication for some other medical condition and that medication reduces his mental functioning. If so, not taking the medication for a few days could restore his mental functioning but can only go without it for that short period of time.

is incorrect.

Of course, I'm not privy to his medical or psychological records or files. So, I'm just spitballing, as they say.

OTOH, judging by the appalling lack of mental acuity that he often displays, IMO, both candidates should be required--if they want to debate--to put out a current list of all the medications they take. And, furnish complete medical exam records--at least, for the past 10 years, or so.

I could be wrong, but, I'm guessing that HHJ wouldn't take prescription meds that adversely affect his mental capacity, unless, he absolutely had to, in order to function properly in other essential ways.

Therefore, if we could be privy to the list of meds each candidate takes, and their medical records, maybe psychiatrists could examine the records, and shed some light on their mental fitness. I do believe that it's an imperative to know the reason for HHJ's marked mental deterioration. And, more importantly, the prognosis. (Everyone knows that OM is a narcissist and a jerk--that's already been established. Smile )

Gotta run and throw together another early morning 'late' dinner, so that we can listen to a couple political program replays, then, settle in to watch an episode of "Columbo"--one of our favorite COVID-era pasttimes.

Have a good evening. Stay well, and, safely out of the path of wildfires. Pleasantry

@Unabashed Liberal wannabe world leaders, not Olympic athletes. Or MLB players. Or even low level grunts that regularly have to pee in cup.

Neither of these two septuagenarians are fit for high office. Neither ever possessed the cognitive skills that the public should want in leaders. Trump couldn't even pass a college reading comprehension test. And if he once could, Biden would struggle now. The only thing they're in touch with is ordinary American biases and prejudices and whatever corporate America wants now.

I've previously acknowledged that the stress level of an environment impacts cognition and that the Sanders-Biden debate was low level stress. If this alone accounts for Biden's improved performance over what was seen in his campaign appearances, then he'll get eaten up in one or more of his Trump-Biden debates. So, we shall see. (Recall how GHWB's disengaged debate performance hurt him.)

Late last year, a friend's mother was diagnosed with dementia. She'd been somewhat forgetful over the past few years but not out of the ordinary for many seventy-five year olds and still worked at a department store. The doctor put her on some sort of medication which her son reported as having been helpful. A few days ago her son told me that the medication is no longer working so well. During the latest two day power shutdown, his mother continued to ask why the electricity was out. Her son hopes that a medication change will be helpful.

That said, this woman never went from befuddled to nearly as good as ever within a brief span of time as Biden has. Have no idea what sort of drug can do that; therefore, there must be more to it than that.

least this drug, is that a person has better cognition and retrieval on it, but it shortens life. When a person on this goes, it's fast. Seen it in the father of a friend.

Biden had several incidents of angry outbursts with voters during the primary. I don't know if this is just the way he behaves all the time, or if it is related to an oncoming dementia problem, but I saw this in both my parents. My dad died of alcohol induced dementia at 75 and my mom from the garden variety type of dementia at 86. Both exhibited tempers they did not have as younger people.
