The first successful jit.si Show up

Our first video meet-up came off today fairly well despite technical conditions, especially for me. Thanks to apenultimate for attempting to get me started on a mac. Seeing this on an iPhone was a bit cumbersome but the view instantly switched to feature the speaker on the main screen. I think we has 8 or a few more in session at various times.

Our liege Lord, the Noble Johnnie the Coqueroo, also blessed us by his presence, during which I believe he, or Joe S., inserted some music, probably the blues.

True to character, yours truly got agitated. But generally our participants were polite (they should've known better that to have me included).

I didn't take role.

Apenultimate, the sly fellow, intently listened with quiet humor.

Granma is younger than me--so stop complaining about you age (which you never do.)

Poetic QMS lives on a polluted Island somewhat east of Gotham. Spiderman is coming for you QMS. But he blends in with the natives, sorta.

Lotlizard, who never fails to politely correct my often egregious oversights, participated. I couldn't tease a word of German out of her.

I know I am leaving some people off the list because our screen identifier (putting a name to the face) didn't work well, at least not on my iPhone. To those who participated: thanks for the fun.

Phillybluesfan is to be congratulated for getting this thing rolling. I regret not recalling the name of his co-conspirator.

After consensus, previously obtained, the membership is open to any c99'er. Please ask somebody else about technical details, e.g. PBF.

Planned meet up is on jit.si/caucus99percentShowUp at 4 PM EDT.

and didn't want to show my face, I am too scared of American border control officers.

Anyhow: WHAT did you talk about? What got the Alligator agitated? I was advised to not think, there are no alligators, because the water is calm.

Tz, tz ... someone gave the keys to the burglers too, no, no.

@mimi This here alligator, got a bit perturbed, to say it mildly, when I remonstrated (I don't think I've ever used that word before) people in general (not the group on jit.si) who think that any progressive can ever work WITH the Demonratic Partei are deluded. Furthermore, my opinion is that the growth of any new political movement, no matter what belief system they have, is to massively invade, quietly, the political scene the way crabgrass invades a lawn. The new ideology must be started contemporaneously in dispersed locations. The targets are county and municipal elected office of the most humble sort, whether it be court clerk or schoolboard member. Then with growing network of support, the growth may then elevate in stature, much as a tree emerges from the first twig.

@Alligator Ed @Alligator Ed
essays introducing candidates through his interviews he had with the supposed 'lower-class-candidates' to vote for or against.

I have some issues with my sister, she wants the crabgrass out of her perfect lawn to be 'genocided' with some 'Zyklon B'-like products. I told her that would make her beloved lawn look bad and she needs to change her ideas of how to 'control' the crabgrass.

So we watch which side wins, the 'crap grass' or the 'good grass'. That is a multi-generational struggle and I guess my non-existent grand children might know who will win.

Be it crap or other grass, they all look green (german=grün), which is kind of 'soothing my nerves'.

@lotlizard
when I read 'da kine' somewhere here (don't remember in which comment or essay) I wanted to ask "What is meant by 'da kine'"?, but felt it would show me as being very 'hamajang'. Acute

Thank You very much for that article. Lovely to read and smile over it. It's so much fun. I never was able to understand the pidgin the local Cameroonians in my RIP ex husband's home turf spoke on the open markets. And they very much found it hilarious that I couldn't. I mean pidgin is the weapons against them 'white people' and the tool to overcome the tribal-based dialiects' tensions (over hundere of them in Cameroon alone) in the days back. They always were able to trick them out and asked 'mintangans ( = white folks") hyped-up prices for their produce. I still found it to be very cheap and bought it without pandering. My in-laws told me they are cheating on me. Who cares. It was only just in a way.

Viva la pidgin. Pidginois Unite ! Preved

subject/issues of today's conference.
I had wanted to just have something like a Happy Hour, for people to meet and greet, to tell funny stories, because "serious topics" are what this site is meant to discuss.
I wanted the conference to be a break from the endless bad news.
No way our essayist would have lost his temper over the time a site member had a blast when their boss forgot to zip his pants, or when the bride tripped and fell on her gown.
Nevertheless, I will try to join the next conference.

Have separate jitsi meets with different pre-declared levels of gravity / formality / solemnity?

While we’re thinking about it, here’s an old-timey TV test pattern:

@lotlizard Maybe if I had my martini before the ShowUp, I might have been mellower--but probably the only difference would not be the volume but slurring.

If we subdivided this ShowUp into different styles before it gets rolling with kinks worked, then it will likely devolve into a mess where people might be confused as to what they would be allowed to say. I say "swamp rules"--critters can make all the noise they wishes too without being too concerned about sounding all pretty like.

@Alligator Ed @Alligator Ed
After some pleasanteries for three minutes I run out ideas to say something nice and it makes me very insecure. I certainly would shut up faster than I can nod with my head and say 'yes, that's right' all the time.

Furiously tail wagging alligators though I could watch like a good crime story, especially if we had some hippos around as well.

With sincere apologies to all the alligators, hippos and other creatures. Shok

Luckily our alligator is not a crocodile. And I learned that at the one and only blog site being fun: C99p through a hint, well I forgot, but I think the alligator made me look it up.

Have fun and good night from Germany.

PS: Can you discuss how to grow a spine for Social Democrats speak their mind without being called a rosy pinky cmmmie or a sorry coward looser and make it a rule that it is okay to to bite back?

@on the cusp at the virtual meetup. But when conversation ran down, we decided to have a couple of discussion topics for next time. If we end up just chatting, I think it will be fine. But if we finish that, we have a couple of topics to go with. It's nice to have a couple of conversation starters.
