It's a funny thing coming home. Nothing changes. Everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realize what's changed, is you.

Was it cool in the Alps? I hear there's a heat wave across the pond.

Anyway, hope you had a great vacation, and hope you all have a good day!

@NCTim
of my family since generations (starting with my grandpa taking the whole extended family to Campolongo ) each year since the 1930ies. It was a huge group always and they occupied the same little village for weeks.

It ended with wwII. later in the sixties the favorite place became Pontresina and Arosa. The last time I was in the Alps and Tirol was as a fifteen year old in the mid sixties. I couldn't ski too well (learned it only twice for three weeks) and today I would never ski again.

Ok, will have to read your other comments a little bit more. Have more fun. Oh well, my grandpa and his sons weren't ponytailed motorcycling hippies in their time, but I bet they had the same fun as you had.

So, I see you motorcycled with the elites, heh, heh ... Wink I think if I were still in better shape I would use a bicycle through the Alps. My brother did this with his wife in the seventies. Otherwise, in case I would get totally nuts, I hike. Have a good day.

Where are you re: the Alps? The ride I was on 20 years ago went from Munich, Germany to Salzburg, Austria. We just got back from the CO/Rocky Mt. run. Hubby took us to Nederland per your suggestion. Just heartbreakingly beautiful like the rest of the trip. Many thanks again. LOL. Some classic soul to mellow out everyone for the weekend. Take care and stay safe.

@orlbucfan and the motorcycle culture is insane Hundreds of Motorcycle’s riding through the Alps. We were flying but, today we were overtaken by a pack of Ferrari’s, a couple Lamborghinis and an Aston Martin. It was insane. Sounded like a Formula One race. There must have been about fifteen of them. Really cool. Ride blog links on response to RA.

True resistance as neither obsession with opposing Trump, nor politicizing every form of human activity, but rather as

culture, “the search for knowledge and beauty.”

Knowledge and beauty; pleasure and delight; the contemplation of truth, irrespective of its instrumental uses; the intimate encounter with another human consciousness offered by the best works of art—these are among the things that make life worth living. If we set them aside until we have made it safely through our present emergency, we will never return to them, because our present emergency will never be through.

you will tell us the truth about your trip and the feelings you had about being there. And I mean the truth and not polite schmooze talk about how nice everything was.

I feel so bad, if I say something critically about the US, and you only say nice things about Europe.

Sigh, I am glad when you are back funkin live and in person. Smile

@mimi I spent the first week in Seefeld, Austria. Everyone, excepting one road raging Italian, has been super friendly. I rode with a bunch of Koreans, the fast group, the first week (blog links on RA response). The Koreans were sponsored by BMW. Korean mileage champ, top selling dealer, advertising exec, and a couple other guys. The came over to attend BMW Motorrad Days, in Garmisch, Austria. I did not know it was going on, but was free, over last weekend, so I went too.

New tour this week. We have meander through the Alps including Austria, Bavaria, Switzerland and Italy. It all is beautiful. Four nights in Italy this week. I rode Stelvio, both weeks. The food has been fantastic. Weiner schnitzel, arrabiatta, real ragu, salami and cheese for breakfast, gelato, ice cream, espresso, ... No complaints.

Garmish for short. I tried Google Maps to see if there was a Garmish on the Austrian side of the border, but couldn’t find one. Hitler hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics there.

many Germans don't trust that politeness sometimes. It is clear that NCTim had a real blast so far. Good for him all the way. I am happy he loved his trip so far. I am almost relieved, because I always fear that there is a lot they might not like.

Just a fractured square of obsidian, but went through the encroaching blackberries like a hot knife through butter... And yes I can shave with it, but that's way too macho for my taste. The particular piece of Obsidian I used had some Iron in it, because the whole thing is shot through with red streaks that Give it an interesting look. Eventually I want to get this thing set into something. Interesting thing when using a "Primitive" knife is that you really become aware of how much of our current ergonomics is cultural. Because it took only about ten minutes until a flaked stone became quite familiar in the hand...
Just a random interesting thought.

you haven't given up on the blacksmithing, DMW.
Was looking forward to your take on "Damascus Steel".
Have you been down to East Lake, Or. where there is a mountain of obsidian?

detroitmechworks's picture

@earthling1 Sorry, yesterday was incommunicado. No I haven't given up on the blacksmithing, just ran into a delay when I screwed up my forge build. (Not TOO bad, just melted the elements and confirmed my suspicions about the quality of the stuff my neighbor sold me for Way too much money. Mail ordering a professional farrier Forge. They gave me a Veteran's discount, so that's nice. I actually am going to need the heat source if I'm going to be continuing my obsidian experiments, so... might as well. I mean, I have a bucket full of unusable shards, after all... )

But now I really NEED to get to that wall. I'm just really glad I live in a state with so much of the stuff.

Warren Bros?

Sanders also has won over more African Americans than Warren: He earns a greater share of support from black voters than any candidate in the race except for Joe Biden, according to the latest Morning Consult surveys.
...As for black voters, 19 percent are behind Sanders, while 9 percent support Warren.

Yet only Bernie has a "black problem".
