"Internal bodily signals can be deeply informative, which is why sensing them can provide an extra channel of information to influence decisionmaking. Gut instinct or intuition during a card game can also be guided by interoception. Bodily signatures (heart rate, skin-conductance response) can signal which cards are good (ie, more likely to be associated with a positive outcome) even in the absence of conscious knowledge that a card is good. Thus, the heart ‘knows’ what the mind does not yet realise, and access to this bodily signature can guide intuitive decisionmaking to a better outcome." ~ Sarah Garfinkel, professor of neuroscience and psychiatry at the University of Sussex

Brain Cells

Good morning good people,

"Violent plasma explosions from the Sun’s surface – known as coronal mass ejections – reverberate to the farthest reaches of our solar system. However, due to the Earth’s protective magnetosphere, most people don’t take note of these events unless a particularly powerful solar flare disrupts radio signals or produces colourful aurorae near the poles. Created as part of an art installation, this inventive, visceral short uses data collected from the University of Alberta’s CARISMA radio array to sonically and visually interpret a geomagnetic storm high in Earth’s atmosphere. Manifesting the data as a dynamic sculpture, the digital rendering captures the volatility of these usually unseen and unheard phenomena, hinting at their potentially destructive powers." ~ Directors: Ruth Jarman, Joe Gerhardt, Semiconductor Films

"You are reading me now and thanks. I know I feel a bit better and if you will stay with me a little longer, perhaps take me home with you and introduce me to your friends, I could be delighted and change my tone. I lie in a desk drawer, hardly ever getting out to see the light and be held. It makes me feel so futile for having given birth to myself in anticipation. I miss a social life. I know I made myself for that. It was the start of me. I'm grateful that you let me talk as much as this. You probably understand, from experience; gone through something like it yourself which may be why you hold me this long. I've made you thoughtful and sad and now there are two of us. I think it's fun."
I’m a Depressed Poem ~ David Ignatow

It’s Saturday afternoon at the edge of the world.
White pages lift in the wind and fall.
Dust threads, cut loose from the heart, float up and fall.
Something’s off-key in my mind.
Whatever it is, it bothers me all the time.

It’s hot, and the wind blows on what I have had to say.
I’m dancing a little dance.
The crows pick up a thermal that angles away from the sea.
I’m singing a little song.
Whatever it is, it bothers me all the time.

It’s Saturday afternoon and the crows glide down.
Black pages that lift and fall.
The castor beans and the pepper plant trundle their weary heads.
Something’s off-key and unkind.
Whatever it is, it bothers me all the time.

Laguna Blues ~ Charles Wright

in returning several comments the last two weeks, the car accident rocked me into a funk and i retreated to the wilderness, even if it's only in my room, not wishing to interface with the outside world. This is a big hit to me financially adding 18 new months of $100 payments to a budget already stressed beyond the max along with the usual selfish, why, why why now and me?

Well, in the end it's only time and money and i've stuck my head out of the cave these last few days, "boot straps, you know."

Anyways, to those of you who made encouraging comments that i didn't catch up with on other OT's, i feel bad for not returning your graciousness. A belated thanks to all.

I did write that threads of our daily OT's grow in entreating ways; almost always a surprise growing from simple OT starters into paths unexpected... where we dine in food for thought, music, art and heartfelt sharing of the day-today never knowing where the thread may go after the publish button is pressed. A special delight of c99.

Anyways, sorry for missing out on the good threads and not responding to you.

Rain set in here yesterday, looks to be with us for the next week; the mountain needs what help i can give this holiday weekend; so, with a pocket of pain pills i'm heading over around 10am and spend a couple of hours hoping to cheer up some rain drenched ski customers and maybe improve their skiing a little along the way.

Thus, the heart ‘knows’ what the mind does not yet realise, and access to this bodily signature can guide intuitive decisionmaking to a better outcome." ~ Sarah Garfinkel,

Fascinating ...

Hoping you have a great holiday weekend, everyone.

An Anatolian shepherd bred by a Sonoma County couple won best in breed this week at the Westminster Dog Show in New York at Madison Square Garden.

Bodega is not Bodega Bay, they are two different places miles apart. Bodega is where the Hitchcock church from The Birds is located. Just up the hill from the Post Office, where I had a box for years. SCUBA dooby doo.

Call to the post bugle sound: California Gov. Gavin Newsom endorses Sen. Kamala Harris for president

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced he is endorsing California Sen. Kamala Harris for president during a Friday television appearance on MSNBC.

“I’m very enthusiastic about Kamala Harris,” Newsom said in an interview with Chris Hayes, host of “All In.” “I’ll be endorsing her candidacy for president. I’ve known her for decades . I think the American people could not do better.”

Though not surprising given the long political relationship between the two former San Francisco politicians, Newsom’s support could play a pivotal role in Harris’ prospects in an increasingly crowded Democratic field of presidential candidates. California lawmakers decided in 2017 to move the state’s primary to early March in an effort to make a bigger impact in the presidential sweepstakes.

mention and link. I had already caught a few clips on the internet and looked over the beautiful photos online as this is not only fun to me, it's important because my daughter-in-law is a dog lover and groomer and she for sure will have saved and watched very minute available. They are coming to visit me next week and i'll be in the conversation, Smile yea.

You always bring such great reading and variety plus a precious wit to our daily OT's, and once again, i want to say thanks for being here for us.

But every time I try to start it gets frustrating. I know folks tell me to get a speech to text, but I write very poorly in quality that way. My work gets conversational and aphoristic.

Well, just one more week till I find out what I can do. Fingers crossed.

And some random music.

And may the writing spirits move your fingers soon so the words can flow.

Lookout's picture

They're calling for 8" or so this week. Got 0.75" last night as start.

We had a good session last night...mainly fiddle tunes, but a few songs were sung. A very small trade day this AM after last night's rain and the clouds this AM. Did my grocerying while I was in town. Gas is finally over $2/gal this week. I just don't see how we'll transition as long as the price is that cheap.

Trying to get a few more trees in before spring is in full flow. I need to transplant some things too. So a rainy week may work in my favor...you know make lemonade.

Hope your financial challenges are surmountable and you'll soon be on easy street, Smiley!

Hey, have you ever watched Smiley's people? Kind of a fun spy thriller (6 episodes)
Smiley’s People was a 1982 drama miniseries in six parts, made for the BBC. Directed by Simon Langton, produced by Jonathan Powell, it is the television adaptation of the 1979 spy novel of the same name by John le Carré. Starring Alec Guinness, Michael Byrne, Anthony Bate and Bernard Hepton. It was first shown in the United Kingdom from 20 September to 22 October 1982, and in the United States beginning on 25 October 1982.

as you probably already know, i stole my screen name from le Carré, i've loved his works so over the years.

Yep, rain coming for this entire week here, darn it, tired of it; but on a good note always a pleasure to read about your music; someday in person, i hope to hear you play.

Good week to you and the folks on Lookout Mountain.

eludes me, perhaps something while I was out of touch or maybe obsessed with something else. Sorry to hear it. Pain meds are a mixed blessing, good to get some measure of relief from pain, but bad insofar as they are needed, a palliative for an unpleasant and uncomfortable sensory signal demanding attention to and awareness of damage. Be careful out there today, this weekend, this week, the rain, as you know, amplifies the inherent danger in existence.

Rain here too, all week long, seems longer, letting up a bit this moment, but coming in waves and pulses and not letting up long enough to get anything much done outside. Hoping it moderates a bit during farmers' market, we're developing something of a dependency on it. I'll maybe try to drive today, first since the 5th, but not an especially good day for it. OTOH, not an especially good day to be a passenger, not in this town.

Interesting graphics, haven't yet had time to listen to the audio. Thanks for the OT and its content.

Have a great one.

constant rain, another week on the way.
Hope it doesn't interfere too much with your travel plans.

Just about to sit down to my special spag sauce and a salad. Wish i'd a slice or two of your homemade sourdough to go with it; still haven't fixed my oven, to much has to be moved to get to the back of it, and i've not the time or energy to do so; maybe this Spring. Did i say Spring? This is the first winter in long memory that i've longed for Spring always wanted the ski season to keep on trucking, but this year, i've had enough.

Have a great week!

Long story cut short, my brother gave up everything he had to come here and nurse our mother through her final days. He and my sister and I had a "gentlemen's agreement" that he would be permitted to take about 60% of what little estate there was, in recompense for everything he did, while she would be permitted to select items from the house that she wanted to keep. But it was (mostly) nonverbal except for one phone text.

Then my sister's husband decided that HE wasn't going to be a gentleman, and "pressured" (read: browbeat) her into going for her legally mandated one-third share. But they didn't tell us that, and came for their scheduled "helping out" visit on their assumption that she would take the things she wanted from the house AND ALSO get one-third of the (remaining) estate.

That came out while she was doing her picking and choosing, and of course all hell broke loose. (She was putting in a claim to all the items that had any real value at all, you see.) Sis and BIL got defensive, then angry, and wound up stomping out of the house with only one set of valuable antique china that was supposed (per Mom's verbally expressed wishes) to go to their daughter - and which they packed in such a rush and so poorly that it is unlikely the set will reach Seattle (their home base) with no pieces broken.

Yada, yada, yada - so under legal advice nothing else leaves the house until the estate is settled up, and then it will be divided according to the letter of the law. This means Sis will never get the highboy or the family silver or any of the other things she had her heart set on, and that's very sad. It also means the family has been torn apart for a few lousy dollars, and that's even sadder.

MIL is now a-dying in the hospital, and all the chilluns are coming in for the booty. Sad. Glad my folks left me nothing. No reason to fight. All gone but the grief. That can be handled.

any of that from flaring up, though I like to hope that it wouldn't have. My brother and I split some of the expenses and outstanding bills when the last one went and that was that, over and done.

@TheOtherMaven heart-wrenching pain many of go through when dealing with extended families and care issues and money.
I write to say that this community has conforted me in dire times of dealing with Mom's dementia, her estate and especially Granny's estate and hope my few word gives you some relief to know that you are not alone and as i and others have gone through similar issues, please don't hesitate to post or PM if my experience may be of benefit to you.

Without boring you with details, in these recent years, i've learned ugly lessons about extended families and money, unbelievable dirty tricks from so called Christians.

What little is left that all the attorneys haven't taken from my Granny's 30 plus-year-old estate is still being fought over and will come with the same results, lawyers will get it all, just because some members of the family can't see their way to be fair and reasonable.

This is so hard to endure as rational thinking goes out the window, and i wonder how people have been so co-opted over their love of money, they will though family members out a window of moving cars.

So sorry you have to deal with this, too. Life is too precious.

Good to see you and hope your family's situation can come to an amicable place as soon as possible.

Sending positive vibes and hugs.

He was counting on having enough money for a down payment on a cheapo fixer-upper out in the boonies (but not too far out), and it's not going to happen now. All because Sis and Bro-in-Law decided they Had To Get Theirs, even though they did jack and squat to earn it.

THEY don't see anything wrong with his having to live like a mole in my basement while he struggles to keep himself and his cats fed. THEY don't see anything wrong with yanking his hopes away from him, stomping them to pieces, and then pissing on the pieces.

I don't think I can forgive that - ever.
