(UPDATE): Trump Prods McConnell on Sentencing Bill: 'Go for It Mitch!'

Okay, I have a question. Why haven’t the Dims pushed for a new bill to mitigate the damage of the Clintons and Biden? You know, back when they were trying to put everyone they could in prison, particularly minorities and the poor. So help me, I hate having to give Ivanka’s slumlord hubby props for anything, let alone something as important, necessary, and overdue as sentencing reform. But I am. He’s still a waste of oxygen, natural resources, time, and real estate. But whatever. It’s a baby/bath water kind of deal.

Who knows? Maybe some of the Clinton Creature’s ‘super-predators’ will be able to walk down the streets again. It’s possible there are still some in prison. Slick was in office until 1/20/2001. And harsh sentencing has been the standard since then.

And poor old Unca Joe, who worked so damn hard to ensure as many plebs as possible got locked up for decades will see his labors go up in smoke too. (He’s lucky he hasn’t been tried for the way he treats children.)

Trump Prods McConnell on Sentencing Bill: 'Go for It Mitch!'

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s reluctance to hold a vote on a popular criminal justice bill has angered top Republican senators and created an unusual rift with a longtime GOP ally, Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa. And on Friday, it also brought on a tweet from President Donald Trump.

“Hopefully Mitch McConnell will ask for a VOTE on Criminal Justice Reform,” Trump tweeted. “It is extremely popular and has strong bipartisan support. It will also help a lot of people, save taxpayer dollars, and keep our communities safe. Go for it Mitch!”

Minutes later Grassley tweeted that he and the president had spoken about “the growing support” for the legislation.

“Pres Trump told me he wants it done THIS CONGRESS,” Grassley tweeted.

The bill is a project of Trump’s son-in-law, White House adviser Jared Kushner, and would be the biggest sentencing overhaul in decades. It would reduce mandatory prison terms for certain drug crimes and give judges in some cases more discretion on punishments. It would allow about 2,600 federal prisoners sentenced for crack cocaine offenses before August 2010 the opportunity to petition for a reduced penalty. It also includes provisions to encourage education and workforce training in prisons.

Roughly 90 percent of prison inmates are held in state facilities and would not be affected by the legislation.

Okay, it doesn’t cover prisoners in state facilities, but it’s something. But again, why are there no calls from the ‘left’ for sentencing reform?

UPDATE:

In major shift, Mitch McConnell announces the Senate will vote on criminal justice reform bill

WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Tuesday the Senate would take up a long-awaited bipartisan bill that aims to reduce the number of people in the nation's crowded prisons.

"At the request of the president and following improvements to the legislation that has been secured by several members, the Senate will take up the revised criminal justice bill this month," the Kentucky Republican said. He added he would turn to it as early as the end of the week.

An unusual coalition of Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals, civil rights groups and the White House have rallied around criminal justice reform pushing for action on the latest effort: a Senate bill called the “First Step Act."

We DO have to give credit where it's due. I want SOMETHING done, don't you? Doesn't everybody? It seems the only way to truly look at it objectively.

All to make Dipshit's...ahem....resume, look better for 2020. Credit? He and his fellow pigs don't deserve it after the decades of damage the pig collective have done to the planet with their greed and bullshit.

@The Aspie Corner
to my posts. I got real tired of your schtick a long time ago. You NEVER say anything constructive, you just bitch and denigrate everything anyone else posts.

See, you’d be doing us BOTH a favor. I wouldn’t have to suffer through your snide, nasty attitude and you wouldn’t have to read me telling you that I’ve damn well had enough of your nastiness. Apparently it’s too big a leap from throwing a hissy fit to actually saying something valuable.

So it’s a deal? Trust me, it’s for the best.

@Amanda Matthews Be honest. Do you really think Mitch and Donnie want this to go through? Hell no. Even if it does, it's far more likely to benefit their boys in Club Fed than Joe Blow who's in federal prison for possessing a few granules of powder.

The 'left' think they can't afford to look "soft on crime", so don't expect any reform from them. Besides, the 'left' invested a lot of money into private prison corporations and wouldn't want to see that investment lose value.
