The Vatican Override

Ripped from the headlines.

U.S. Bishops Had a Plan to Curb Sex Abuse. Rome Ordered Them to Wait.

BALTIMORE — Facing a reignited crisis of credibility over child sexual abuse, the Roman Catholic bishops of the United States came to a meeting in Baltimore on Monday prepared to show that they could hold themselves accountable.

But in a last-minute surprise, the Vatican instructed the bishops to delay voting on a package of corrective measures until next year, when Pope Francis plans to hold a summit in Rome on the sexual abuse crisis for bishops from around the world.

A few comments.

1. Betty Clermont has always been correct in her analysis of the Church.

2. Some are surprised that such a non-democratic circumstance can occur. Wake Up. The Catholic Church is not a democracy. When one has the power of ex cathedra all else is irrelevant.

3. Some surmise that the real issue is that a lot of this occurred beginning with Pope John, then Paul, then John Paul I, then really kicked in world wide during the reign of John Paul II. Who has been canonized and is now a Saint. How does one resolve the conflict that a Saint allowed all this mayhem and child abuse to occur?

4. just say we're sorry?

This is a touchy subject. The CC has been trying to deal with this for a mere 50, 60, 103, 285, 486, 601, 935 years or so? What's the hurry? They don't want to commit to anything they cannot live up to.

For example, a good solution would be to allow priests to marry. HORRORS! Not a good example? Hmmmmmm.......

How about a good solution would be to allow nuns to marry. HORRORS!! No marriage allowed in the upper echelons - you are MARRIED TO GOD FOR GOD'S SAKE! GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!

I'm sure they will come up with reasonable solutions. Let's give them all the time they need. There is no hurry - no one is being hurt i..... excuse me, what's that you say?.....children are being hurt? who says? their word against an adult! Oh, crap - that's what we're supposed to be solving.
Sorry----

Okay, let's get out power point presentation ready with plenty of Diablo Diablo Diablo Diablo

Just having fun as a recovering catholic. Did I ever tell you how old I was and what made me begin to question (and later get thrown out of) the CC teachings? Long story - best for another time. Organized religion just sucks.

He never did much for poor people or oppressed people in Latin America, for example, but he was fiercely anticommunist and in the eyes of the US media and the conservative wing of the Catholic Church, that was enough to make him a saint.

The dishonesty to which the media will go to idolize Pope Francis is staggering.
1. How many kids were in Catholic schools and active in parishes back then? As in many other countries, how many in Catholic boarding schools etc.? How many more priests and nuns during that time? So, yes the numbers would be greater back then not to mention the fact that child sex abuse is always "history." Normally, it takes years even decades for some to come to terms with their most intimate and horrifying of violations.
2. JPII did not have the benefit, as does Pope Francis, of dozens of government reports from the US and Ireland, not to mention the massive Australian Royal Commission report. Bergoglio ignored and obstructed two UN Committee investigations and reports. Not to mention the current groups of survivors and their advocates like BishopAccountability, SNAP and many others around the world. And yet, he has called a meeting in February of bishops from around the world to talk about what needs to be done.
