Monday Open Thread: September 24 is New Caledonia Day (in New Caledonia)
September 24 is the 267th day of the year; as well as Boomtime, Bureaucracy 48, 3184 YOLD
to discordians.
The prefix for 1024 is yotta. So, yotta, yotta, yotta. heh.
The product of any four consecutive numbers is divisible by 24. This is because among any four consecutive numbers there must be two even numbers, one of which is a multiple of four, and the other must be a multiple of three.

On this day in:
1789 – The US Congress passed the Judiciary Act of 1789 which created the office of the United States Attorney General and the federal judiciary system, and ordered the composition of the Supreme Court of the US. This was massively important legislation and a very bfd indeed.
1853 – Admiral Despointes took possession of New Caledonia in the name of France because no other outside imperialist nation owned it yet
1869 – In order to keep James Fisk and Jay Gould from making a fortune in the gold market, President Grant ordered the Treasury to dump gold, making gold prices plummet in a fiasco known as "Black Friday"
1906 – President Teddy Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower to be the nation's first National Monument.
1957 – Ike sent 101st Airborne Division troops to Little Rock, Arkansas, to enforce desegregation.
1979 – CompuServe launched the first consumer internet service, which featured the first public electronic mail service. This is officially true but isn't strictly true. A major commercial, public information service, CIS granted all of its members access to internet mail functions on this date. Well before this date, The Well, certain BBS services, and Compuserve itself, unoficially provided access to internet mail services to users who could figure out the bang paths to jump to usenet and the world beyond.
1996 – Representatives of 71 nations signed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty at the United Nations.

and the power relation between imperial ruler-settler and local ruled-and-colonized, lives on . . .

Good day
Did the usual early morning walk. Today was 4.74 miles. It is getting dark earlier and earlier so we will probably push back the start time15 minute until we go off daylight time in November. I keep waiting for cooler fall weather, but we are still getting upper 70's for highs. Meanwhile lots of leaves are falling and when it rains later today, there will be plenty more on the ground.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?

Good morning, el and all ~~
The mornings are more chilly these days. I'm never ready for winter, but always endure it.
Hard to believe there are less than 100 days to the end of the year. Time is meaningless.
Have a beautiful day, everyone!
