Imran Awan Gets No Jail Time For Bank Fraud

I am too disgusted for words. Americans can do more time than this on a misdemeanor charge.

Imran Awan Gets No Jail Time For Bank Fraud

Embattled former Democrat IT aide Imran Awan gets no jail time in connection with federal bank fraud charges.

Instead, a D.C. judge sentenced the 38-year-old to timed served plus three-months supervised release.

Awan pleaded guilty in July to lying on a home loan application. The plea deal guaranteed charges against his wife would be dropped.

*

Tuesday’s sentencing is not related to any of his work on Capitol Hill.

I truly do not know what to say beyond we are totally screwed. Who is pulling the strings here? This is a total miscarriage of justice.

Judging by the horrendous verdict alone, this is less than a slap on the wrist. But it is certain to me (99.9999%) that such leniency comes with a price. That price being a full disclosure of DWS's Spygate. One more thing impresses me is that Mr. Awan's remaining tenure on Planet Earth is less than the half-life of democratic snowflakes. How soon the TPTB decide the enactment of his punishment will be determined, in part, by any on-coming ferocity unleashed by Huber's army.

Former Wasserman Schultz aide Imran Awan reaches plea deal that debunks conspiracy theories

Federal prosecutors concluded an 18-month investigation into a former congressional technology staffer on Tuesday by publicly debunking allegations — promoted by conservative media and President Trump — suggesting he was a Pakistani operative who stole government secrets with cover from House Democrats.

As part of an agreement with prosecutors, Imran Awan pleaded guilty to a relatively minor offense unrelated to his work on Capitol Hill: making a false statement on a bank loan application. U.S. prosecutors said they would not recommend jail time.

*

The Government has uncovered no evidence that your client violated federal law with respect to the House computer systems,” including stealing equipment or illegally accessing or transferring information, prosecutors wrote in the plea agreement dated and signed Tuesday.

This article has more information about this and this statement from the judge is ludicrous!

During Imran Awan's sentencing hearing in D.C., U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan condemned the "unbelievable onslaught of scurrilous media attacks" and "baseless accusations" that were "lobbed at [Awan] from the highest branches of government," according to CNN. Chutkan added that Awan had "suffered sufficiently" and "has paid a price that he will continue to pay."

What were the charges against him?

Awan was arrested in July 2017 after he was intercepted at Washington's Dulles International Airport by members of the FBI, U.S. Capitol Police, and Customs and Border Protection over his alleged involvement in "double charging" for House Democratic IT equipment and possibly exposing private information online.

Umm no. There were definitely many more charges made against him, but it looks like that room where history is corrected has been busy.

Utter Hogwash! This again confirms that the justice system in this country is dead.

I looked for other sources for this and your essay is listed. CNN and WP headlines say the same thing, but both say that it's a debunked conspiracy theory. Of course.

ETA

CNN has this.

Awan choked back tears as he addressed the court and said he took responsibility for lying on the bank form -- an application for a home equity loan he filled out while dealing with his father's serious illness.

"It was a lapse of judgment. It was a very difficult time in my life," he said.

Awan also said he had "no grudges in my heart for anyone moving forward."

"What those people did and all the stories they wrote, I forgive them for what they did," he said.

Awan hugged his attorney, Christopher Gowen, after he received his sentence.

In an interview following the hearing, Gowen suggested his client might try and seek a job in Silicon Valley. Awan said he would leave his fate up to God.

"I'm grateful to be here in this country and whatever it has given me. There's so much goodness here, and that should not get overshadowed," Awan said.

Dead Dead Dead. Beyond Dead!

The information that was supposedly hacked happened to be the truth right? Hillary and the DNC did rig the primary against Bernie. But what the Awans were originally accused of doing was far worse.

And yes, this is a very light sentence. Just like his boss and all Her minions (except for Seth Rich and the other dead ones), he won't do time for any of the actually heinous crimes committed. They're untouchable.

This whole fraud thing was a farce from the beginning. Prosecutor is DWS's brother, IIRC. His office or the Sheriff or someone in authority handed the server in question over to the defense, again IIRC. A big game.

Kind of reminds me of the whole Russian Collusion bs, only to net some unrelated charges against various players who are close the prez. Sure wish we could see just how many of the investigators and prosecutors are guilty of the exact same financial crimes they are investigating and prosecuting, in both situations.

Government computers thousands of times.

I care about the bank fraud, that’s a serious felony.

Anyone who “knowingly executes, or attempts to execute, a scheme or artifice”

To defraud a financial institution; or
To obtain any of the moneys, funds, credits, assets, securities or other property owned by, or under the custody or control of, a financial institution, by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises;
faces a fine of up to $1,000,000, and may be imprisoned up to 30 years.

It is possible for some lesser charges to result in bank fraud punishment of 5 to 10 years, as well as steep fines, restitution, and probation. It is common for bank fraud punishment to include more than one form.

This guy, and his entire group are guilty of far more serious crimes than bank fraud. And yes, we would be locked up for a very long time for bank fraud, even to a lesser degree than his. He and his group are untouchable. This is the worst that will happen.

The government and "judicial" system doesn't care what crimes this snake committed for Her Heinous. I guess they felt they had to convict him of something, and let him be the sacrificial lamb, for some reason.

Have any info on the crooked connections of the judge to say, The Clinton Crime Foundation? Maybe another relative of some DNC slime ball? It just seems so over the top, and yet easy, we have to be missing something.

I'm with you on wanting to leave this place. I have a friend in Europe, and I'm planning to go visit next summer (hopefully), and check out a possible job lead. I'll probably never see my mother alive again if I do, though. My kids, though grown, will still be here. It's tough, but I'm seriously beginning to hate what this country has become. Or maybe it always was.

Just the fact that DWS' brother was involved in this case goes against normal standards and he should have recused himself and been nowhere near it.

For gawd's sake. The Awans family had access to close to 30 congress member's' computer information for how many years? Or is that decades? Didn't gulfgal think that they were either connected to or were being protected by the CIA? Pakistan is a foreign country right? How would it benefit from receiving congressional information? I can think of many ways. And yet the judge said that people had been mean to the Awans. Just unbelievable.

I know it was here at c99, and I know On the Cusp commented on the thread. It was either you or Amanda or Pluto or gulfgal (lol that narrows it down), who linked to and quoted an article that said her bro was the prosecutor. OtC commented about how turning over the server would have cost a DA and/or sheriff their job, even down here in good-ole-boy Texas.

The judges words are why I'm questioning her connections. What judge in this country would give two shits about how people treated a defendant, let alone say it publicly? She's trying to sway people. Hell, even when a person is innocent, have you ever heard of one even mention anything like that? She's married to, related to or owes someone. I just don't know who/what.

In one extraordinary hour on Tuesday afternoon, a federal jury convicted Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, on eight counts of tax fraud and bank fraud while, at the very same time, Trump’s longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to eight counts of tax fraud, bank fraud, and campaign finance fraud.

Meanwhile Awan skates on who knows how many federal crimes? And bank CEOs are still stuffing their wallets with money instead of rotting away in prison.

DEAD!

Cohen pleading guilty to campaign fraud might be a big deal for Trump if Cohen can tie him to the campaign fraud. Meanwhile shit like this happens almost daily anymore.

I think Awan was used to spy on the 44 Dems they had worked for. In addition, they impersonated at least 15 other House members and the Democratic Caucus. Hillary and her lieutenant DWS demanded complete control of the entire DNC AND the party. The Awans also had access to Hillary's private server. They had the ability to copy tens of thousands documents.

This was why DWS kept Awan close. He knew too much. He is the only one who can blow the whistle on her, and by extension, Hillary. DWS and cohorts had to protect Awan from jail time. Frankly, I think Awan will eventually disappear from the face of the earth unless he can sneak away to Pakistan. Could be help from FBI/CIA/DOJ in covering up this breach.

Full story with extensive background information:

44 Democrats Exempted Awans From Background Checks Before Granting Access To Classified Intel

As the Russian "hacking" episode continues to mire the Trump administration in nebulous innuendo and daily claims of collusion, Luke Rosiak of the Daily Caller reminds us that House Democrats participated in an actual data breach conducted by Pakistani-nationals who were given access to highly sensitive intelligence as part of their duties providing IT support to members of Congress - and in particular, Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) and Gregory Meeks (D-NY).

There was a plea bargain, all the judge had to do was accept or reject it without comment
I HAVE NEVER HEARD A JUDGE SYMPATHIZE WITH A DEFENDENT before, during, or after sentencing, ESPECIALLY in a plea bargain, ESPECIALLY about accusations not before the court.
There was absolutely no need for comment.
NONE.
Judges sign death warrants and life without parole routinely. Without comment, although they disclose to me the can't sleep at night for having done it.
Comments are routinely about the sanctity of the jury finding.
This was a damn plea bargain.
And for anyone out there who thinks pbs are bad, or the result of lazy or overworked defense lawyers, you are really misinformed. They eliminate risk, and are an art form. While I bow to the absolute greatness of the damn Awan defense attorney, just fucking WOW, wish I had that notch in my belt, what I cannot absorb as legally necessary was the judge's statement.

I've heard that the judge in the Manafort case has been threatened and that the FBI or CIA can frame judges if they don't tow the line. Remember that Schumer told Trump not to cross the intelligence agencies. People took that as a threat.

Good grief! This information just makes the judgement much worse IMO. How he could have been found not guilty is just mind boggling. This is so unbelievable it just begs people to come up with conspiracy theories about it.

The Q followers are saying, "trust the plan." What plans? Q also said that there would be no plea deals. Well Michael Cohen just made one that looks like it's going to screw Trump big time unless he has no proof to back his statements up. Then it would be a "he said, he said" boondoggle.
