'CEOs don't want this released': US study lays bare extreme pay-ratio problem

Golly, why wouldn’t CEOs want this released? You’d think they’d want us to know how much more valuable to society they are than us plebs who do all the grunt work, wouldn’t you? (/s)

'CEOs don't want this released': US study lays bare extreme pay-ratio problem

The first comprehensive study of CEO-to-worker pay reveals an extraordinary disparity – with the highest gap approaching 5,000 to 1

The first comprehensive study of the massive pay gap between the US executive suite and average workers has found that the average CEO-to-worker pay ratio has now reached 339 to 1, with the highest gap approaching 5,000 to 1.

Just the summary makes for sober reading.

In 188 of the 225 companies in the report’s database, a single chief executive’s pay could be used to pay more than 100 workers; the average worker at 219 of the 225 companies studied would need to work at least 45 years to earn what their CEO makes in one.

It also shows how some of the most extreme disparities in CEO-to-worker pay exist in industries that are considered consumer discretionary, such as fast food and retail, with a 977 to 1 disparity, one of the widest gaps.

Soooo, the DNC’s second in command is just now figuring out how badly the plebs (aka the American workforce) are getting stiffed? It took a freaking ‘study’?

Welcome to the real world Keith.

The big question is “WTF ARE THEY GOING TO DO WITH THIS SUDDEN KNOWLEDGE?” Both sides of the aisle are either run by these greedy bastids or they’re on their knees to them with their lips firmly attached to their asses.

At least they can’t pretend that they don’t know or understand how wrong workers are being treated anymore. But they won’t do a damn thing to fix it. They can’t. How would they be able to become filthy rich off ‘public service’ if they did?

woke over the last 20 years knows this, of course.
And, as for The Rich (or ubers and filthys as I like to call them: uber rich and filthy rich), they simply don't give a damn, are more curious as to why that gap isn't wider. Way wider. "We must be paying those fucks Way too much!" "$15 over my dead body!"
But, yeah, thanks for the work! And the hits just keep on coming.

don’t know or plain just aren’t smart enough to care because Bezos is getting his money from somewhere.

And thank you for being so dismissive and rude.

Anybody who’s been half woke over the last 20 years knows this, of course

I highly doubt EVERYBODY KNOWS about the invasive technology being used and its ramifications. But of course I’m sure you know it all.

been common knowledge
@Amanda Matthews
that the CEO v. Worker gap has been growing almost exponentially wider over the last 25 years. I don't think it's been any big secret to those glued in to Fox or MSLSD over those years. Granted, the avg. Joe not glued in or not paying attention may still be clueless, but I qualified my statement. I don't think I'm any smarter or more clued in than most, so if I know something that I consider "common knowledge" I suspect everyone else clued in knows what I know. It's not like it's hidden. This bit of knowledge is "in the news" yearly if not more, and has been for a decade or more, has very likely been mentioned once or twice in social media. And I did say thanks, and meant it. No snark intended. If I'm wrong about it being "common knowledge" then I'm wrong, but this info has been out there a Long time.

posting about. Because it’s common knowledge. It’s not necessary to provide any concrete facts on the subject. Don’t post about a report that a DNC official had done showing exactly how bad it has gotten backed by facts and figures. And don’t point out that now the Democratic leadership has no excuse anymote to not do something about inequality because one of their own published a study on it. Because ‘everybody knows’.

Now trust me on this one. I don’t care what you know. Not only do I not care, I think I should inform you that I don’t use your knowledge bank as criteria to determine what to post. I post what I think is interesting and informative. This isn’t TOP and you don’t get ti decide on what’s post-worthy or not. Now if JtC were to pop on and tell me ‘everybody knows’, maybe I’d care. You not so much.

And as for your ‘thank you for your work’, how much more patronizing can you get?

@Amanda Matthews
reading an insult where none was intended. No offense intended, seriously, but I think you're wrong when you assume that evidence that the problem is getting worse proves working people are unaware of it.

Does the fact that we do not have a universal health care system prove people are unaware of the problems associated with what we have? A majority of Americans have supported what is being aggregated into "Medicare for all" for a number of years. Ben Page and his associate compiled a list of cases where what a clear majority wanted was trumped (Pun intended although the phenomenon is older.)by what TPTB wanted as evidence that we are governed by an oligarchy in the Princeton study.

I don't think you can repeat the facts you presented too often.

Have a nice day and please don't hit me.

@FuturePassed

rational, intelligent fellow human being, exactly like YOU did, and it’s fine.

Talk down to me and patronize and you get what you get. If you don’t want a problem you don’t start iff with

I'm pretty sure it's been common knowledge...

I wouldn’t do that. Not to you. Not even to that guy.

back in the '70s
@Wink
workers earning $222 a week, $5.55 /hr. ($200 /wk. then = good entry level pay) would be earning $1,331 /wk., $33.27 /hr. today, assuming avg. raises over those years. Or six times what they earned in the '70s.
So CEOs today being paid seven times what they were paid in the '70s doesn't sound so bad. Except that it's apples and oranges.
A CEO would have been paid (as opposed to earned) $10,000 /week in the '70s vs. $222 for workers.
Today that same CEO is being paid $451,209 /wk. vs. $1,331 / wk. for workers.
Wages having gone up six times for workers, but a whopping 45 times for CEOs.
Imagine, instead, that workers pay had gone up ten times since the '70s to $2,220 / wk. or $115,000 /yr., paid for out of the pockets of CEOs and Shareholder dividends. CEOs likely still would be paid 50 times what their workers are paid, or still Living Large on $111,000 /week, $5.7 million /yr.
At least.
[edit] Point being there's Plenty of money out there for workers who aren't receiving much of it.
