The Anti-war Movement Picks Up Steam

Here it comes:

As of now, the Pentagon and US leadership are in denial and not ready to face reality. The people of the United States, in solidarity with people of the world, must act now to end the war culture and convince US leadership that a new path is necessary.

Join the days of action!

April 14-15 – National Days Of Action to End the Wars at Home and Abroad.

October 20-21 – Women's March on the Pentagon

November 10 – 12 – No Trump Military Parade

This came at the end of an excellent Counterpunch article:

Empire On Decline

No word yet on the War Powers vote due in the Senate today:

With a vote expected later on Tuesday, and as the Senate debates a joint resolution that aims to end U.S. support for the Saudi-led bombing of Yemen, peace advocates are urging Americans to immediately call their representatives in Congress to back the legislation.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

@divineorder Bin Salman just so happens to come to DC to see the cherry blossoms (they're not due yet). I'm sure a cocktail party will be arranged for wavering Dems and MBS (of course Bin Salman will have a Virgin Mary--or maybe a Shirley Temple.

And the results are neither good nor surprising. Ten Democrat Senators voted to table the bill: http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/379392-senate-sides-with-trump-on-pro....

The Usual Suspects:

Democrats Chris Coons (Del.), Catherine Cortez Masto (Nev.), Joe Donnelly (Ind.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Doug Jones (Ala.), Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Bob Menendez (N.J.), Bill Nelson (Fla.), Jack Reed (R.I.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.). voted with the majority to table the measure.

@Meteor Man with a specific aim at protesting the duopoly's role in war and imperialism. Many small and individual ones of course.
Cindy Sheehan's Women's march specifically mentions it will not be a mouthpiece for the democratic party.
The other one protesting the military parade is a good thing but the same organizations have been organizing protests in D.C. for years and it just doesn't work.
Obviously.

@Big Al @Big Al
I just had a thought about tying the Anti-war message to a third party vote.

No war!
No Dems!
No war!

The Trump nominations leave the Democrats on the cusp of a complete surrender on torture in an election year. Caving on torture by approving Pompeo and Haspel will anger Democratic voters and risk the high turnout need for their anticipated 2018 “Blue Wave”.

Republican Senator Rand Paul says he will oppose both nominees. If all the Democrats oppose, the Senate will be split 50-50, requiring one more Republican to block the nominees. Fifteen Democrats supported Pompeo’s nomination as CIA director, so Democratic opposition is not ensured. Will Democrats oppose torture or be complicit in normalizing torture?

I'm pretty sure that many previous hardcore Hillbots are realizing that their Dear Leader is effing crazy. Her monomaniacal speech in Mumbai excusing herself of her own colossal failure yet again has many former supporters wondering if she hasn't gone on a ride on The Crazy Train. Even keeping her 3 falls out of consideration, her verbiage must be starting to wear thin even amongst the faithful.

Widespread desertions by Dims from voting, as opposed to voting for the hated Drumpf, will doom marginal Dim candidates in close districts. It's Guns Or Butter--people are tired of eating gun smoke.
