NC and VA will have some high tides but we avoided the worst of it. Poor Puerto Rico and the Caribbean...already broke and in debt and now in shambles. I wish they would rebuild with solar, wind, water capture and ecological development, but we know better. The new development will occur to maximize profits not sustainability. All the missed opportunity occurring now. Instead of progress it seems we are regressing (at least in the states).

Well, I can't complain. Great weather here. A warm dry week in view. Typically Oct. is our dry month. The fall wild flowers are beginning to put on their annual show, and the trees are turning early this year. Dogwoods, Sourwwood, and gum trees are beginning to redden up and leave fall has begun.

Happy Autumn to you all wherever you are! (That is unless you're in the S. Hemisphere and in that case happy spring to you). Here's more fall music...

If you don't have enough ears for an hour plus of music, here's Charlene singing one on Andy's show about the seasons (2.5 min)

Autumn here is still merely hinting, a bushel of leaves at a time, but any day now ...

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

Good morning!
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/sep/25/afd-leader-frauke-petry-quits-party-german-election-breakthrough

Shortly after the packed press conference opened in Berlin, Petry said “after a long period of contemplation” she would not join the party in the Bundestag and instead serve as an independent MP for her constituency in Saxony, where she narrowly beat the Christian Democrats.

She stood up and walked out with a smile, leaving her party colleagues looking stunned and prompting gasps from the press corps. Meuthen accused Petry of “dropping a bomb”, adding: “That was not discussed with us in advance. We knew nothing about it.”

@eyo

. . . the realignments in Germany mirror the polarization elsewhere.

https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2017-germany-post-election-analysis/

Some revealing data is embedded in that article.

The Left and the Greens went on doing their thing, gaining slightly in vote percentages nationwide while also slipping behind the surging pro-business FDP and anti-immigrant AfD as the most visible minority parties in Germany, while the CDU and SPD got hollowed out. Voters even in Europe's strongest and most stable nation are dissatisfied with the status quo and are thrashing about for alternatives. The lefties should have made better gains from this but didn't. In the longer perspective, the why of that may be the most interesting question to pursue.

perspective. I suspect that, in part, imaginations of scarcity are kicking the greed meter up a notch.

@dance you monster thanks, it sounds familiar? http://capitolweekly.net/californias-four-party-system/

“I’m sorry you have nine kids,” said Roy Wright, a Tule Lake farmer and Trump supporter, summing up his sense that America has moved in the wrong direction, “but I don’t owe you a house. I think Trump is taking a lot away from these handout programs.” His comments were reported by veteran journalist Susan Sward in the Sacramento Bee.

Sward had gone on a road trip with her husband, and along the way she asked people why they liked Trump. She wrote up her responses in a Perspectives piece for the newspaper. The trip offered “a sobering education, and one that I am still waiting for the media to convey effectively.”

“Again and again, I found the hold that Trump has on his people to be enduring,” Sward wrote. “It is not a bond torn asunder when he makes impolitic Twitter remarks or backs away from campaign pledges. Finally, his supporters told me, they have a president fighting for them.”

In a comment about his Democrats that in an optimistic world might be applied to either party, Bauman said:

“To be sure, the progressive and moderate wings have many things they agree on, and many things they do not agree on, but at the end of the day, they come together – they find the sweet spot.”

good luck
