Stein Gained 6 States Today

Today, Jill Stein and the Green Party gained official ballot access to 5 additional states. This brings the total number of states with ballot access to 34 plus Washington D.C., and a total ballot access to 422 electoral college votes.

This is up from direct access to 382 electoral votes this past weekend, and 357 two weeks ago. The climb continues.

Stein also now has official write-in vote status in 3 states (Indiana, North Carolina, and Georgia!). Georgia is new on the list, and last week she was going to have neither ballot nor write-in access, so this is a big deal. These states give (kinda, sorta) access to an additional 42 electoral college votes. Adding these, Stein's total access to electoral votes would then be 464.

Signatures for ballot access have been filed in both Connecticut and Alabama and we are awaiting results for those two states, together worth 16 more electoral college votes.

Signatures are still being collected in 8 additional states (New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Delaware, Virginia, Kentucky, North Dakota, Wyoming, and Idaho). And lawsuits for ballot access are ongoing in two states, Oklahoma and Nevada.

Edit to add: 270 electoral votes are needed to win the presidency outright.

But I think Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee for sure. Maybe Minnesota. Maybe either Ohio or Pennsylvania? (I think she had one of those already.) Georgia for the write-ins.

While I don't think the green party is going to be our path to the future, it's gonna be a great placeholder to reject the status quo for now.

If she can pull off a win even better.

Gotta get the media to quit framing the polls in a way that leaves her no chance of attending the debates. If she cannot get in the debates she stands no chance of winning, but would still make a statement as well as opening up ballot access even further in the next cycle.

Sure, I am hopeful Stein can get all that accomplished, but I am unfortunately not optimistic.

if ballot access determined debate participation. Got access to enough electoral votes that you could outright win the presidency? You're in. But that won't happen anyway if we can't make them change anything.

100%, Grade A, bs. They should sue there, too. Greens have a hard enough time without being confined to write in status.

Yes It sucks, and someone should call them on their BS, but unless there are a lot of electoral votes at stake, I'd prefer to devote resources to canvassing. So GA/16 ok, but NV/6 seems dubious.

Public Policy Polling (PPP) released the survey on Tuesday, which showed only 2 percent of voters would vote for Stein — the same percentage that support Harambe, who was shot at the Cincinnati zoo after a 3-year-old boy fell into his enclosure.

This is the second time PPP has polled support for the dead gorilla, who has lost support over the last few weeks. At the end of July, PPP tweeted the results of a poll that had Stein at 2 percent support and Harambe at 5 percent.

I put up a diary a out it in the last day or two.

Although she is only polling at 2% in Texas, she's polling much better in many other states (Colorado 7%, California 6%, Alaska 6%, New York 5%, Virginia 5%, and Michigan 5%).

But, yes, there are some states that will be more difficult.

Edit to add: the trend has been up in those states over the past month.

I'm sorry, but this (edit: comparison between a progressive Presidential candidate and a dead gorilla) makes me think of television news clowns, a concept I think Robert A Heinlein used in one or more of his older works works. I think 5% of the vote is a reasonable goal, and would provide ballot access for other offices.

If you want to run local candidates, first you need to have the Green Party’s name on the ballot, you need to have a ballot line. And for that, most of those states require you to have a presidential or gubernatorial candidate who gets that one or three or five percent of the vote
