The real battle isn't the election, it is the (DAPL) pipeline

There's so much happening so fast. I've been collecting DAPL stories for the weekly on Sunday, and it's overwhelming. I thought I would fill in for blazinAZ with a pipeline report. Since I'm from Alabama I guess I ought to be an expert on pipeline leaks -

Jordan Chariton, TYT politics reporter, has some great on the ground pieces. Obomber wants to wait a few weeks before something is done. That's because the pipeline will be finished in a few weeks -

Story posted on this video clip

I arrived in the early hours at Standing Rock today. My first task was bringing supplies around the camp— But, almost immediately, I was told to rush to the front line to get video of police shooting water protectors with rubber bullets.

Things has calmed down when I arrived, but still definitely tense, since police were still macing water protectors.

And then, I heard the gun pop off, and the woman a few feet from me was the one who got hit. Her name is Erin Schrode.

I have never seen anything like it.... Pictures and videos... do not do justice.... The majority of America is seeing boiled down clips... this stand-off goes on and on and on.... it is totally insane... totally, totally insane and wrong.

This is piss-poor writing— but there is no wifi— and I have to rush to Bismark for supplies by nine.

UPDATE: Erin has posted on Twitter that she will be alright— but she should expect some serious, serious bruising. If she is still around, I will try to get an interview and update again.

I think Erin’s sentiments sum it up best:

ERIN’S FACEBOOK: I was just shot. Militarized police fired at me from point blank range with a rubber bullet on the front lines of Standing Rock. My body will be okay, but I am hurting, I am incensed, I am weeping, I am scared. Peaceful, prayerful, unarmed, nonviolent people on one side of a river; militarized police with armed vehicles and assault weapons occupying treaty land on the other, where sacred burial grounds have already been destroyed. What is happening here in North Dakota is li...ke nothing I have ever seen in my life, anywhere in the world. This is a fight to protect and defend the water for 17 million people in the watershed downstream to the Gulf, for a livable planet, for Native and human rights, for the lifeforce of us all. We are at the confluence of the movements for civil rights, for the environment, for peace, for justice. I am proud to stand in solidarity with our Native brothers and sisters – alongside the water protectors and land defenders – who put their lives on the line and are facing excessive force, pepperspray and mace, historic trauma, brutal arrest, imprisonment in dog kennels, felony charges, and callous destruction of sacred objects. This is not about me, but I am here – and will remain here – to cover and amplify truth and bravery on the ground with my colleagues Josh Fox of Josh Fox Film, Josue Rivas of Josué Rivas Fotographer, Jordan Chariton of The Young Turks, Evan Simon of ABC News. Standing Rock represents the exploitation of a long-oppressed people, illegal land seizure, crude oil transport, media censorship, national security threat, public health crises, and more human rights violations than I can count. It is inexcusable for the President Obama to say he will “let it play out for several more weeks." It is unjustifiable for the Attorney General to not be here. It is unconscionable for mainstream media to not cover this. It is indefensible for all politicians to not condemn what is occurring here. It is disgraceful for more people to not speak out and show up to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. Pray for the water protectors, for justice, for our people and our world.

Those guards who use dogs and look like storm troopers might be hired mercenaries from Blackwater. How appropriate is that....Blackwater? (4 min)

Thanks for putting this update together Lookout.

The scene there just gets uglier and uglier at the hands of the state thugs under pressure presumably from the governor, who of course is under pressure from the oli companies, who pay his campaign donations and can end his political career, among various other insinuated threats. Democracy at work, with unbridled capitalism pulling all of its strings. Heh.

Good to see Jordan of TYT at least having the courage to go there, and most importantly, talk to the people on the ground, who are experiencing this firsthand. Too much "news" is he said/she said BS, reading corporate public relations statements and getting "reports" from the police. A surefire recipe for not ever getting the real story.

I noticed this comment last week by HoosierDeb and thought it really captured how the #NoDAPL Uprising has effected us:

I think a lot of us are finding out we are nearing

a tipping point. I thought I had reached my peak of anger over the Dem primaries. Watching what's unfolding at Standing Rock is making me aware that I have a whole 'nother level of fury... and it scares me shitless that I'm not sure how or if I want to control it.

I'm a frumpy, almost sixty year old white lady who had a stroke 4 months ago. Yet, I'm about a half a heartbeat away from jumping in my car and heading west. Hubby would kill me, but even that's growing less of an obstacle. In the meantime, I'm waiting on a call back from the local cop who sent 'troops' to 'help' in ND. Am betting he either dodges the call or has a flunky armed with the corporate talking points.

It's made me pine for being there in the thick of there too, because it is at the confluence of so much of what we're fighting against, which this brave and uplifting protest has drawn out in sharp relief:

Love your fire, HoosierDeb. Made my day...

The more I think about the events at Standing Rock the more I realize this is the true and real antidote to the super-depressing zombie reality tv 2016 election fraud. It's the truest, most burning and alive reality of all our grievances coalescing at once, contrasted with the stultifying Disneyfied Stepford candidacy of HRC.

The relentless, merciless grinder of Neoliberal corporate capitalism is on full display in Standing Rock, literally bulldozing over people's land, beating and arresting peaceful protesters, with the full fury of armed soldiers of the state, whose puppet strings are naturally, as they always have been and are now, being pulled by the corporations and oligarchs who continue to call the shots in all of these instances - over the most basic of all human rights, of access to clean water, which without no one can live. It's put the brazen greed of capitalism on trial for the whole world to see. The cops and National Guard are part of the exhibit, dutifully doing their jobs with their narrow-minds, because they are the pawns of the oligarchy, unwittingly there to protect rich people and their "property."

I feel the same way as you. I felt this way when Ferguson was going down too. I was able to get out in the streets often with Occupy Wall St, and then with #BlackLivesMatter. It changed my life.

Thanks for making those calls to your local police. They need to hear from folks outside of their bubble. The revolution will come, I believe, when those "enforcers" being to see how they're being used, have their consciences tell them they can not beat these people who are fighting for what is principally right and decide to lay down their arms, or best case, protect the protesters and their cause.

Please take care of yourself. We need your fire. It's inspiring!

a state that allows public workers to form bargaining units, you should consider organizing to deny police the immunity they often are able to bargain for at contract time. It would also be appropriate to lobby the local administration to not grant pay raises and to begin selling off the military equipment.

There is a significant minority of police who hate being used by the 1% but they are usually marginalized within the union. A concerted community effort to end what ex-mayor Bloomberg called "My army" (the NYPD) and rid your locality of that viscious mindset.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety” ~Benjamin Franklin

Unfortunately, I believe that you are correct.

Obama plans to sign the illegal, unconstitutional and traitorous TPP (the others being Fast-Tracked) right after the coronation. As far as certain corporations are concerned, they can already do almost as they please, although to this point there do not, at least, appear to have been any deaths. If we do not stand together and refuse to accept this traitorous corporate coup, we will fall, and the results of billions of years of interconnected life forming also the life support system of us all will fall with us.

This is definitely the proverbial hill to die on as far as causes go. So it pains me greatly to see what the tribes are enduring right now. The only silver lining in all of this is that Native Americans have the advantage of fostering support and empathy from people the world over that the oil companies will never enjoy. I mean talk about an iconic people fighting for an iconic cause against an iconic enemy, right? And now we have videos and pictures coming out of Sacred Stone Camp of unarmed praying water protectors being shot at from police who look like military swat teams? Bad optics.

Couple that with the support of a lot of tech savvy disaffected and angry millennials who just got a fucked in the ass by TPTB during the Dem Primary who don't need much to rally around an environmental cause like this one....

All the reason why the oil companies are going to fight Native Americans viciously on this one. They have to crush this now or risk this righteous movement growing stronger and spreading to the other pipelines.

So let us keep us praying, meditating, chanting, writing, documenting, calling, shouting, donating, mobilizing to keep this powerful fight alive.

would support the people instead of the corporations. Wild to think about tax money paying mercenaries to beat up protectors...US citizens. Of course it's also wild to think about tax dollars supporting drones and bombs that are killing Arab children too.

The voters of this nation get the government they allow with their laziness and ignorance. Expecting the government to do anything which doesn't benefit corporations is a sign of a serious lack of awareness of reality.

sure prove that point. Peaceful water protectors trying to pray for their sacred land while it is being bulldozed, compared to armed white guys trying to take over gov't land. Clearly guilty protectors challenging the corporations and innocent militia attacking the gov't.

This is a taste of what happens in countries where the people and environment are not protected against corporate depredations.

This month, right after the Coronation, Obama plans to sign the first of a series of (thereafter Fast-Tracked) traitorous corporate coups given a spurious aura of 'legality' by being termed 'trade deals', which illegally and unconstitutionally offshore domestic law of all betrayed countries to a corporate/billionaire-only court where the public interest interest has no standing and the only concern is the maximization of the future anticipated profits of involved corporations and billionaires, down to the last drop of blood squeezed from the publics of these countries and the last resources of a to-be-murdered-for-profit world.

This makes government into corporate management and citizens into resources to be used and abused even to death, using a mechanism of 'legalized' extortion traitorously promised them by public servants having no right to do so in any case.

Certain corporations are acting as though they own the country because this is what these 'trade deals' purport to give them.

This is Obama's legacy - tossing the world of life to mindless parasites eager to kill their hosts in order to pick over the corpse, failing even to realize that there is nowhere else to go even for them.

3 of the 4 Presidential candidates will support these hostile corporate take-overs beginning with our economically cptured countries, to be used in the miltary take-over of the other countries of the world, although life on the planet - and oxygen production - will not survive global corporate rule. Jill Stein is the only Presidential candidate now running who won't accept this.

Never vote for evil.

Before the Flood (available on National Geographic website) comes to mind when I read this. The last word on our situation was, if we stop using fossil fuels right now, the earth will keep on warming for a while then it will cool down. If not...

These protestors are fighting for the life of the planet. Of course it is more important than the forth-coming puppet show election. It is backed on both sides by the fossil fuel industries. Democrats and Republicans will take us down the roadway to ruin.
