I think this article needs more discussion

HT to ~— ggersh for pointing it out in my previous diary

Some of the real points made in Kate Aronoff's article in the Guardian

Hillary Clinton is having a harder time beating Donald Trump than she bargained for. According to a recent poll, a staggering 44% of millennials say they’ll be voting for either Green party candidate Jill Stein or Libertarian Gary Johnson.

Millennials are the generation that has occupied Wall Street, shut down bridges for black lives and chained ourselves to the White House fence to stop the Keystone XL pipeline. Disillusioned by Obama’s embrace of war and austerity alike – especially after knocking on doors to get him elected – we know better than to put blind faith in any candidate for the Oval Office.

One huge elephant in the room type truth:

At a time when Americans across the political spectrum are turning against the status quo, Clinton seems to be embracing it. She spent weeks in August wooing millionaire donors in Silicon Valley and Martha’s Vineyard, and has chased endorsements from Bush-era official and war criminals like Henry Kissinger. It’s out of frustration that millennials will register protest votes, not ignorance.

For the most progressive and diverse generation in history, Trump represents virtually everything our generation is against. Clinton represents everything that hasn’t worked for us. Her embrace of politics as usual these last few months could cost her the election, putting Trump in the White House and emboldening his most dangerous supporters.

I disagree with her conclusion [last 2 paras], quite frankly if Trump is elected there is nothing he could do without the Ds and Rs allowing him to do it, then turn around and blame him when it went pear-shaped he would be a 4 year President at worst. It might also prevent us from being dragged into more wars, confusion and bloodshed in the Middle-East.

How long has everyone been holding their nose and voting for the "not as bad as" with no end in sight?

How much more can we take of the syphoning off of the wealth into fewer and ever deeper pockets?

How much longer can we take of the Mega-Corporations avoiding their tax duties?

How much more can we afford to bail them out when they screw it up through greed?

The status quo has been robbing us blind, sending men and women to bleed and die to protect their assets and overthrowing governments that displease them.

How much more can we take of being told what we cant have and being ridiculed as children at the same time for merely asking?

We are being asked to vote for more of the bloody same?

Hell no.

Never again.

ht KFS:Clinton campaign in ‘panic mode’ over Florida black voters

Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2016/09/hillary-clinton-florida-black-vote...

Biggrin But Democrats are beginning to worry that too many African-American voters are uninspired by Clinton’s candidacy, leading her campaign to hit the panic button this week and launch an all-out blitz to juice-up voter enthusiasm.

Biggrin "Hillary Clinton's campaign is in panic mode. Full panic mode," said Leslie Wimes, a South Florida-based president of the Democratic African-American Women Caucus.
"They have a big problem because they thought Obama and Michelle saying, 'Hey, go vote for Hillary' would do it. But it's not enough," Wimes said, explaining that too much of the black vote in Florida is anti-Trump, rather than pro-Clinton. "In the end, we don't vote against somebody. We vote for somebody."

Biggrin It’s not just Clinton’s margins with black voters that concerns Democrats. It’s whether African-American voters turn out in force for her in a pivotal state whose 29 electoral votes are essential to the GOP nominee's path to an Electoral College victory. A loss in Florida all but guarantees a Trump defeat on Election Day.

Biggrin Clinton faces a similar potential problem with Hispanic voters. Though Florida Hispanics back her by double-digit margins similar to the level of support Obama enjoyed, activists fear their turnout rate will be lower. Hispanics account for more than 15 percent of the Florida voter rolls and African-Americans are more than 13 percent. About 65 percent of registered voters are non-Hispanic white, and they heavily favor Trump.

Their politics is all about slicing and dicing the electorate, trying to cajole this segment or that into turning up in the voting booth for them. It's what Hillary's campaign is based on.

But the buttons they're pushing aren't achieving the desired results. So rather than look at the utter bankruptcy of their campaign strategy and their candidate, they're blaming all the people who aren't making their crappy campaign work. Bernie, why aren't you delivering the millennials? Hey Barack and Michelle, where the hell are those African Americans? Come on Wall Street chums, we need some more gazillions, even though the gazillions we've already spent have only led to a drop in the polls.

This campaign may turn out to be Gotterdammerung for the Wall Street Democrats. If so, it'll be the only good thing about it.

I am not at all surprised that millennials would not automatically migrate to Clinton after Bernie was cheated out of the nomination. I spent some time with millennials at Occupy Tallahassee and what I saw impressed me with this generation. Beyond anything else, millennials refuse to be bullshitted. They see through people like Trump and Clinton. So I am not surprised that most are not automatically supporting Clinton. I predicted months ago that millennials would either vote third party (either Johnson or Stein) or forgo the Presidential election altogether. And I would not be surprised that Johnson is also attracting millennial votes. Some of the millennials I met were libertarian in their outlook. They are fed up with the status quo and the shit sandwich they have been left with. They cannot be threatened or blackmailed into supporting more of the same.

That is a huge, and hugely important, difference between them and previous generations. They're much more difficult to brainwash and they can sniff out phonies and shills from a mile away.

regular, weekly and underground, especially the latter. We also had Phone Trees and hangouts, both of which got us into the habit of "spreading the news". Radio and TV were for live coverage of something really happening somewhere, and word of that would be spread throughout the entire state in rapid fashion "Hey, dude - go turn on CBS, they've got live footage of a happening going down in L.A." and such. Of course, there were still some real reporters back then too. Wink

We may need to go back there now, best to start spreading alternate means of communication around immediately as the give-away of control over Domain names seems to be having an effect.

Reposting from previous comment regarding massive occurrences of something I've never seen before:

Started to search for an incident where a group of German women banded together to protest their Jewish husbands being taken and successfully retrieving them in Nazi Germany, showing the power of protest even prior to the internet age - found a lot of things I've never seen before, with a lot of sites showing as down, now that Domain names have been privatized by Obama.

Look at the variety of reasons given for a huge proportion of suddenly unavailable sites showing on the (typically scrambled even not using Google) search page - on DuckDuckGo - and these are simply listed in order of appearance until I came across repeat reasons:

We won't have the internet much longer without a massive effort. If you can, set up alternate methods of contact at least locally - I would hope that at least some people have done so already...

Another edit to add that this further indicates that the US nation wide alert flop may have been preparation for another Black Flag excuse for martial law or as cover for appointing Hillary, FSM knows. Or simply for taking over all communications.

Also, that some years back, a financial newspaper we'd had delivered as a freebie had had an article mentioning a technology developed by, I believe, the Harvard School of Business, on display and looking for sales/investment. (Can't recall which, at the moment, but pretty sure that it was being actively commercialized at that point.)

It involved something which could be incorporated into a film (and was, people were watching one in demonstration at some sort of trade fair/convention) which would convince viewers not only that they believed in something whether they had or not, but always had believed this, using the positive example of exercise being good for health - no idea how it actually worked, although it really just sounded like the Silent Sound tech intended (by some) to be used for positive purposes. But the Silent Sound seemingly doesn't work on everyone and this was presented as though this does. (Advertising, though...)

In any event, have not heard anything on this since and that was back before the HD switch in multiple countries was coordinated. So I have no means of verifying anything regarding that particular application, but suspect that something of the kind would explain a lot, not only in the attitudes of various politicians but of some of the general public who seemingly can't follow logic to a non-corporate-desired conclusion.

But, thought I'd better mention this now, in case I can't later.

Here in a pretty blue part of the Mpls/StP metro, I've yet to see a Hillary lawn sign (I've seen one bumper sticker, amongst those for Bernie and Wellstone (still). I might have seen a couple of Trump stickers. I'd probably have to go further West to check on the Trump lawn situation. Enthusiasm seems very low all round.

I couldn't reward Carter with a vote for a second term due to the horrible advisors he listened to. I couldn't vote for Reagan because I could see coming what we've been living with for the past 36 years. So I voted for Anderson just to open the gates to other choices.

He wants to eliminate the income tax and replace it with a revenue-neutral flat consumption tax. What he didn't say is that 76% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, so we'll consume every dollar we make and pay the full tax, it'll be the same as a higher income tax rate. While the rich spend about 30% of their income, so their tax will amount to about 1/3 the percentage on their income that we pay. In short, we will bear the brunt of the consumption tax and income inequality will further worsen. It's a regressive tax because the more income you have, the less percentage of income you spend.

No, thank you. That killed it for me. I like his (and Libertarians' in general) anti-war stance, though

Part of the problem Clinton faces is that Obama, the actual black president, is the toughest of acts to follow. Obama enjoyed support from 95 percent of Florida’s black voters in both 2012 and 2008, according to exit polls.

Clinton isn’t polling quite that well in a state that has nearly 1.7 million black voters. An average of the last three Florida polls that provided racial breakdowns shows she’s polling less than 85 percent among African-American voters in Florida, while Trump polls around 5 percent.

It’s not just Clinton’s margins with black voters that concerns Democrats. It’s whether African-American voters turn out in force for her in a pivotal state whose 29 electoral votes are essential to the GOP nominee's path to an Electoral College victory. I'm a boomer, it's like saying boomers are whatever. Boomers are all over the place just like millennials. And why people think millennials as a whole are any different that previous generations is beyond me. We had protesters and activists and hippies as boomers and we had a whole lot of others with their heads up their asses, still do. Most millennials are the same way, stuck to their Ipads and video games, most of them couldn't tell Syria from a hole in the ground.

Clinton is a war criminal, she is on par with George Bush, Tony Blair and Dick Cheney and of course her husband Bill. The thing that should be being discussed is how to put her in prison and send Trump back to his penthouse.

I know and those in my family were born in the 90's. Both my granddaughters were computer literate by the time they were going to kindergarten. They only used the TV to entertain themselves, kind of like eating junk food. Both of them expressed their first political opinions about Bush when he ran the first time. From an early age they cared and knew about climate change and were concerned about the environment. Don't vote for Bush said the oldest one when I picked her up from kindergarten one afternoon. He hates the animals.

They we're both raised in the burbs not in liberal land and were much more questioning and unafraid then their parents my Xer kids. Although not eligible to vote in 2000 they went big time for Obama and were disillusioned when his pocket full of hope turn out to be empty. It was interesting watching them turn into adults and develop humanistic global values. When my oldest turned 18 she refused to register as 'It's rigged so why bother'. We all talked her into registering (indie but now Green) because of local ballot issues regarding education. She never went for Bernie but was for Jill Stein from day one. She liked what she stood for and said.

I think it's partly because they do not fall for the bs. on the traditional media. Even with music they have the world past and present to rummage through online and find what's relevant and great. I know this is a generalization and every generation runs the gamut but the millennials not only have to live in this insane war torn neo-liberal unjust world world they have bs. meters that have been honed by the increasingly unbelievable fear and loathing the media pumps out. It does not match the real world they habituate online or off.
