Dianne Feinstein makes transparently phony move to the left

Ah, election season. It's a time when corporate Democrats endorse ideas that they've spent a lifetime fighting against, so that they can get the votes of people they hold in contempt.

Normally Senator Feinstein doesn't even bother to do that because of her massive warchest, consistent endorsements by the party establishment and news media, and support by moderate Republicans makes her immune.

But this year is different.
This year she is feeling pressure from progressives.
Thus she is temporarily changing her positions on multiple issues that she's held for a lifetime in office.

Legal marijuana:

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that she is open to extending federal protections for states that have legalized recreational marijuana.
Feinstein, a longtime opponent of legalizing marijuana, also said that while California has approved the recreational use of the substance, the state needed to "ensure we have strong safety rules to prevent impaired driving and youth access, similar to other public health issues like alcohol.

Death Penalty:

California U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein says she no longer supports the death penalty, a significant policy shift as she seeks re-election against a Democratic challenger.

Feinstein says it's become clear to her that the death penalty is applied unequally and not an effective deterrent.

Feinstein's support for the death penalty played heavily in her 1990 campaign for governor. She won the Democratic nomination despite being booed by activists at the California Democratic Party's convention for her stance. She ran television ads noting that she was the only Democrat backing the death penalty. She lost the general election.

Medicare for some:

In the past month, California Sen. Dianne Feinstein has thrown her support behind two liberal health care bills. Shortly thereafter, her re-election campaign began airing a statewide ad touting her embrace of the policies promoted by the two bills she co-sponsored.

"I believe in universal health care, in a public health option to compete with private insurance companies and expanding Medicare to everyone over 55," Feinstein says in the ad, part of an attempt to push back against her leading 2018 opponent, state Sen. Kevin de León, who has made his support of a single-payer health care program a central plank of his campaign.

Feinstein is still comfortably in the lead, but the fact that she's shifted for the first time on so many issues tells me that this poll doesn't tell the whole story.

are you seriously expecting us to believe that you have just recently seen that the death penalty has not been applied equally since you won the "lottery ticket" that propelled you into higher office?

As for this wishy washy BS statement:

that she is open to extending federal protections for states that have legalized recreational marijuana.

Being open to rethinking your view on a subject means that after you have given it some thought you might come away with thinking that now is not the time to do this.

Good grief, you've spent your adult life screwing as many people as you can while making yourself and your husband richer that Gawd. Isn't it time for you to enjoy time with your grandchildren and let someone who's views are from this century the chance to serve? Why yes, I think it is time for that. In fact it's long past time for you to just gooooo awaaaay!!!

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@snoopydawg a public option to "compete" with private insurance.

to do some 'fake left stuff' at the general public to try for a plausible re-election - and after all that, it's still not working...

If she goes far enough fast enough, people will likely miss her, no matter what squashy fruit or veg they throw.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

She's a real person. Our top 2 primary system really sucks.

I want to encourage "speaking your truth" when it comes to candidates. I sensed a recent trend that they weren't even bothering to disguise their policies anymore. They either think their own wacky thoughts are normal or they are so secure in their bubble that they just don't give a damn. One place you never see self-awareness is in the Republican primary debates. These candidates have no internal boundaries at all. No intellectual gatekeepers. They will say just about anything and have no idea how shocking it is to someone with a moral compass.

We need activists who trick candidates into speaking their truth. We can take it from there.

Hey Bernie does this sound familiar?
U.S. prepares to take action against Nicaragua if Ortega regime fails to cooperate

Pelosi: "We're capitalists."
Clinton: "We're not Denmark"
Feinstein "I'm not for a government takeover of healthcare"
Sanders: " ? " crickets

and force foreign governments to listen to their citizens?

Gee, guess they aren't protesting Wall St. or trying to protect water sources from leaky fossil fuel pipelines.

... Ortega deployed military forces and police fired tear gas and rubber bullets indiscriminately to dissolve demonstrations.

A preliminary report by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights released Monday said the Ortega government violated human rights through the “excessive use of force” by state security forces. The commission recommended an international investigation of the violence to identify and hold accountable those responsible. ...

Why doesn't the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights try this at home? In case America is then forced to sanction/invade itself 'to stop the human rights abuses'?

I got roped into making calls for him the other day. Many people I talked to reflexively supported Feinstein. But when told that de Leon advocates Medicare for All and is good on climate change, everyone I talked to responded with enthusiasm. I just hope he'll come in second against DiFi because then they can go mano a mano in November in our jungle primary.
